Year 7 Build a Cell: HOME LEARNING In this project, you will build a model or draw a poster of a plant or animal cell. This activity will be completed at home. This will help us develop our COMMUNICATION SKILLS. Sometimes words are not the most effective way to communicate. Using graphs or diagrams or charts can help you to get a clearer picture of the subject. Directions- Part 1: 1. Choose to research a plant or animal cell. (You are choosing ONLY ONE). 2. You can either make a model of your cell or create a poster of your cell. 3. What materials might you use? Will you create a model, or will you draw a cell? 4. Construct your cell! Make sure to include all the appropriate cell structures (see the charts below). 5. Label each part of your cell model. 6. Describe the role of each of the organelles. Animal Cell Structures Cell Membrane Mitochondrion Nucleus Ribosomes Cytoplasm Plant Cell Structures Cell Membrane Cell Wall Vacuole Mitochondrion Chloroplast Nucleus Cytoplasm Ribosomes GO FURTHER – These are additional organelles that students learn about at IB Level. Can you add these structures to your cell diagram/model and describe the role of each organelle in the cell? Remember we are using our COMMUNICATION skills to help people understand the structure of plant and animal cells.
