Question
How do I setup the 1769-SM2 module and PowerFlex 4/5 class drive?
Environment
PowerFlex 4 (22A)
PowerFlex 40 (22B)
PowerFlex 400 (22C)
PowerFlex 40P (22D)
PowerFlex 4M (22F)
PowerFlex 523 (25A)

Answer
The 1769-SM2 Compact I/O to DSI module provides a Compact I/O connection for PowerFlex 4-Class drives. It
can be used with a MicroLogix 1500, CompactLogix, or a remote 1769-based adapter such as the 1769-ADN. Refer
to the PowerFlex 1769-SM2 Compact I/O DSI/Modbus Communications Module
(http://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/um/1769-um013_-en-p.pdf), Publication

The following should be setup for the 1769-SM2 module. Please note whether you are using Controller or
Parameter mode:
Set the 2 switches on the card. One is for single vs multi-drive mode. The other is for controller vs. parameter setup.
Note: This switch sets ALL Channels to mulit or single drive mode. If one channel has more than 1 drive and
another only has 2, set to multidrive then set that channel's DSI I/O Cfg to 0.
For Controller Setting:
The 1769-SM2 uses the configuration data downloaded from the controller on power-up and when the controller is
placed in run mode. The data is configured using RSLogix 500, or RSLogix 5000/Studio 5000. ( ) are for
PowerFlex 520 parameters. If no description, this is a user preference setting.

For Parameter Setup:
The 1769-SM2 uses its internal parameter settings to configure the module. The data is configured using an optional,
external PowerFlex 4-Class HIM, DriveExplorer, or DriveExecutive. The following parameters are the minimum to be set
up. There are more that are user preference. The parameters below are for Ch1. Use the respective parameters for your
Channel. () denotes a 520-series parameter number.
1. Parameter 07 [DSI I/O Cfg 1] - Set this to (number of drives - 1). Ex. If 3 drives are used enter 2
2. Parameter 09 [Drive 0 Addr 1] - Set this to the unique address of drive 1. Should match A104 (C124) in drive 1
3. Parameter 10 [Drive 1 Addr 1] - Set this to the unique address of drive 2. Should match A104 (C124) in drive 2
4. Parameter 11 [Drive 2 Addr 1] - Set this to the unique address of drive 3. Should match A104 (C124) in drive 3
5. Parameter 12 [Drive 3 Addr 1] - Set this to the unique address of drive 4. Should match A104 (C124) in drive 4
6. Parameter 13 [Drive 4 Addr 1] - Set this to the unique address of drive 5. Should match A104 (C124) in drive 5
7. Parameter 14 [RTU Baud Rate 1] - Set this to a value of '1' for 19.2k Baud
8. Parameter 15 [RTU Format 1] - Set this to a value of '0' for 8-N-1

Power cycle the system (both the Drives and controller) and put the controller in Run mode after these are set. The
SM2 module CHx should have a solid green LED now.
Note: It is not possible to connect to the drive via drive software by bridging across the 1769-SM2 module
