A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS VI
I.
OBJECTIVES:
AT THE END OF THE LESSON, THE STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
●Multiply simple fractions and mixed fractions.
II.
SUBJECT MATTER
Topic: MULTIPLIES SIMPLE FRACTIONS AND MIXED FRACTIONS
Reference/s: Grade 6 Math – Learning Material
Materials: Artistic Powerpoint Presentation, Pictures, Flash cards
Values: Develop a genuine love for numbers
III.
PROCEDURE
A. Learning Activities
Teacher’s Activity
(Prayer, attendance, classroom set-up, motivation)
Learner’s Activity
Good morning maam!
Good morning class…
Let us all stand and we are going to pray first…
(Checking of attendance)
….say present…
(One student will lead the Prayer)
(Student raise their hand and say present as
teacher calls their name)
Please pick up the pieces of paper under your chair
(Students pick up the pieces of paper)
Now before we start our lesson I will ask 5 different
questions, each question is worth a price.
Let’s begin.
8x9
9X7
6X9
7X8
8X8
B. Lesson Proper
1. Discussion
Okay class, Multiplying fractions are just like multiplying
numbers.
To multiply fractions, you have to multiply the numerators
and then multiply also the denominators of the fractions to
be multiplied.
EXPECTED ANSWERS:
72
63
54
56
64
(Students listen carefully)
If the product is in an improper fraction, simplify it or
reduced to its lowest term.
Learning task 1:
Multifly the given fractions.
Multiply the numerators and multiply the denominators.
Cancellation Method can be applied before multiplying
the fractions so that the product is already in its lowest
term. You can apply cancellation if there is a common
factor in the numerator and the denominator.
Example:
Multiply
Possible numerator and denominator to cancel are: 4 and 5,
10 and 11, 4 and 11 or 5 and 10.
The pair of numerator and denominator with common
factor is 5 and 10 and the common factor is 5.
Therefore, divide both by 5.
So 5 divided by 5 equals 1, and 10 divided by 5 equals 2.
Then multiply 4x2, and multiply 1x11.
Learning task 2:
Multiply the given factors. Use cancellation method.
-You can cancel 8 and 24 using their common factor 8.
8 diveded by 8 is 1 and 8 divided by 24 equals 3.
-You can cancel 15 and 9 using common factor 3. So 9
divided by 3 is 3 and 15 divided by 3 equals 5. -You can
cancel also 3 by dividing 3. So 3 divided by 3 is 1, 3
divided by 3 equals 1.
-Let’s multiply 1x1=1 and 5x1=5.
Aside from multiplying fraction by another fraction, we
can also perform the following types:
(1) Multiplication of fraction by whole number and
vice versa:
(2) Multiplication of fraction by mixed number and
vice versa;
(3) Multiplication of whole number by a mixed
number; and,
(4) Multiplication of mixed number by another mixed
number.
Example 1:
8 is whole number and this is same as:
So 3x8=24, and 5x1=5
This is improper fraction so we should change it to mixed
number.
So we are going to divide the numerator in denominator.
How many 5 in 24?
Yes 4 and a remainder of 4 and the denominator is 5.
Example 2:
All: 4
Example 3:
Example 4:
Example 5:
Example 6:
Example 7:
2. Generalization
Okay now class I will give you an another example here in
our blackboard and you can raise your hand if you want to
answer.
All: okay ma’am!

EVALUATION
1. What is the product of (½) and 6?
2. The product of (¾) and (12/6) is ______.
3. What is the product of 3 ½ and ⅔?
4. Find the area of a square farm
whose side length is 10
⅔ m.
5. There are f 50 students in a
class, and ⅔ of them are girls.
Find out how many boys are
there?
