There are numerous nursing organizations, I am looking for two specific nursing
organizations. The Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) and American Psychiatric Nurses
Association (APNA).
The first organization that I came across in my research was the Emergency Nurse
Association. The Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) is the premier professional organization
that represents emergency nursing. Consisting of more than 50,000 members, ENA addresses
issues relevant to emergency care, publishes professional guidelines, provides education for
emergency nurses and issues a peer-reviewed journal(Emergency Nurses Association (n.d.))..
The ENA Foundation is an essential resource for emergency nurses looking to advance their
career and improve practice around the world. The ENA mission is to advance excellence in
emergency nursing. ENA's vision is to be the premier organization for the emergency nursing
community worldwide(Emergency Nurses Association (n.d.))..ENA has four main objectives.
These Objectives include improving quality and safety in emergency nursing practice.Prevent
violence in the ED.Establish and disseminate standards for emergency nursing practice.Improve
recruitment and retention of emergency nurses.(Emergency Nurses Association (n.d.)).
The second nursing organization is American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA).
The American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) is a professional association of
psychiatric-mental health nurses. Founded in 1986, it provides continuing education and a range
of professional services to a membership of more than 9000 nurses. It publishes position papers
on mental health issues and the care of persons with psychiatric disorders.APNA provides the
resources, education, and dynamic collaboration that you need to provide the best possible care
to those you serve(American Psychiatric Nurse Association(n.d.)). APNA is the only PMH
nursing organization whose membership is inclusive of all PMH nurses: associate degree (ADN),
baccalaureate (BSN), and advanced practice (APRN – including clinical nurse specialists (CNS),
psychiatric nurse practitioners (NP), and nurse scientists and academicians (PhD and DNP)).
Members practice in a variety of settings, such as inpatient, community, academic, research,
private and public health institutions, and high level administrative positions at state and federal
levels(American Psychiatric Nurse Association(n.d.)).
I would like to join the Emergency Nurse Association because I am considering
becoming a certified emergency nurse and working in the ED.
