Critical Reflection 2
Patriarchy is one of the most detrimental social standards to enter in our society. Mainly
pertaining to men, The “patriarchy” creates a standard that every “ideal” man should follow in
order to be considered as such. Men who have heard of the word “Patriarchy” often associate the
word with women’s rights or liberation. The patriarchy is a system to where men are dominate in
almost every aspect of life. Most men don’t realize that this can be a discrepancy when compared
to women, who often face inequalities due to the patriarchy’s system.
Personally, the patriarchy has been toxic and a discrepancy to men and women in the
world. The patriarchy affects and benefits men. It affects men because of the ridiculous standards
that men must follow in order to be considered as a man. It you do not meet the standards, then
you simply are not a man and you will never be considered as one until you meet the standards.
It benefits men because of the control that is granted when one becomes a man. They can dictate
and control whatever they want.
It affects women negatively because they are thought about second and not first. Women
must abide by the man’s rules because of how powerful they can become and because they can
dominate them.
