In case of a decompression in the cabin oxygen will be supplied by oxygen masks. The oxygen is produced chemically by oxygen generators. Location of the oxygen masks The masks are located: - in the cabin ceiling above the passenger seats (with at least one mask more than available seats) - in the lavatories - above the cabin crew stations - above each bunk and seat in OFCR - above each bunk in OFAR System activation The system is activated automatically or electrically. Automatically - if cabin altitude exceeds the release altitude. . Electrically - PASS OXYGEN switch on the cockpit overhead panel in ON position. If cabin altitude exceeds approximately 10,000 feet or the passenger oxygen system is manually deployed by the flight crew, the following automatic events take place: - cabin lights come on full bright - five HI chimes sound - FASTEN SEAT BELT and ELECTRONIC DEVICES OFF signs illuminate and corresponding chimes sound - the DECOMPRESSION pop-up window appears on the cabin management system displays wherever one of these screens is displayed: - CABIN LIGHTING - ENTRY WAY & CROSS AISLE LIGHTS These events warn the cabin crew that a possible decompression is about to occur. In crew rest area the cabin depressurization is additionally indicated by a continuous alarm horn sound. Note: Cabin crew must sit down, fasten their seat belts, and prepare to put oxygen masks on. Activation of the system causes the masks to drop and triggers the following Chinese, English and Japanese announcement: "Attention, your attention please, put the mask over your nose and mouth, fasten your seat belt, this is emergency descent!" 01-JAN-2015 6 6 1 SEP B777-300ER Fixed Oxygen System CABIN Chapter Page Revision 6 7 3 Activation and duration of oxygen flow When pulling one of the masks or flag (if applicable) down the firing pin that is connected to the lanyard will be pulled. This action activates the generator and causes all masks at the generator to drop. Each connected mask will be supplied with oxygen for about 22 minutes. A mixture of oxygen and cabin air will be inhaled through the mask, and the oxygen flow cannot be shut off. Caution: The oxygen generators produce heat when activated.
