Choose a story you want to use for this activity. It can be from a story you have read or a movie or a “telenovela” that you watched or plan to watch. Use the matrix below to relate the characters to Piaget’s stages of cognitive development. Title of the Story/Movie: The Incredibles Write a brief summary of the story: The couple has three children: Violet, who can become invisible and generate force fields, Dash, who has superhuman speed, and Jack-Jack, a baby who has not yet discovered his powers. The movie starts with the Parr family leading their secret life of superheroes, and each of them is unhappy with their current situation. However, their life changes when Bob is recruited by a mysterious woman named Mirage, to help her on a secret mission. The mission turns out to be a trap set by the evil genius, Syndrome, who has been jealous of Mr. Incredible’s heroics and wants to eliminate all superheroes. Throughout the movie, we see the Parr family grow, learn and develop in their own ways, like Helen re-learning how to be a superhero, Bob learning to be a better father, and Violet learning to make friends and control her powers, making the film an heartfelt and exciting experience that is both a thrilling action adventure and a heartwarming story of family. Character Description Father : Mr. Bob Parr Piagetian Connection What is his stage of cognitive development? - Formal Operational Stage, Bob also has a tendency to try to solve the world's problems on his own, refusing and actively dismissing help from anyone, even from his loving wife and the sage counsel of his best friend Frozone. These flaws combined nearly cost him his life and the lives of his family. She is often more authoritative with her children than her husband Bob, who is often too distracted to be substantially authoritative. Children : Violet- What is his stage of cognitive development? - Concrete Operational Stage, Violet : Socially awkward, outspoken and sarcastic, Violet plays her teenager role to perfection all while secretly mastering her super powers of invisibility and creating force fields. A Super at heart, Violet can't help her urge to fight crime alongside her family. Dash- Preoperational Stage, Dash : Is a very outgoing boy and despite of the fact that he has to keep his powers secret, he is still very energetic and loves to have fun. Sensorimotor Stage, Jack-jack : Just like a typical baby. He laughs and giggles a lot but cries whenever he is disturbed. Like many infants, Jack-Jack's emotions are unpredictable; and since his powers are stimulated by them, being with him when the baby uses his powers becomes very difficult when attempting to pacify or restrain him.
