Activity: Self cleaning and anti reflective coating on solar cover glass Antireflective coating : Bare silicon has a high surface reflection of over 30%.the reflection is reduced by texturing and by applying ARC coating on solar cell .This is important that we want as much sunlight to pass through the glass and as little as possible to be reflected ,In order to maximize electricity generation. Self cleaning: Self cleaning glasses are the one that keep their surface clean from dirt and dust. self cleaning coating on glasses used in solar panels protect solar cell. The loss on solar panel’s efficiencies may range as high 35-40% in some areas due to dust ,grime, particulate matter etc. The plausible solution to this problem can be achieved by using self-cleaning coating techniques. I. Our work is about water assisted selfcleaning techniques Superhydrophilic & photocatalytic surface coating: coatings with photocatalytic properties absorb light(uv-vis) that turn causes dirt or other foreign particles on the surface to slowly loosen or break down via oxidation. Also, By virtue of superhydrophilicity water .seeps under fouling and carry it away from the surface due to inclination PV panels Our work: Non lithographic black copolymer directed self assembled and plasma treated self-cleaning transparent coating for photovoltaic modules and other solar energy devices. Solar energy materials and solar cells 2018,188,127-139 Superhydrophobic Surface Coating : a) Such coatings are modelled on the lines of lotus leaf structure. The leaves of the lotus plant have the outstanding characteristic of totally repelling water. b) The water droplets roll off the surface easily due to hierarchical nature of the new surface created(very low surface energy) by such coatings. c) As they roll, dirt particles cling to the beads and are removed with them hence a natural “Self-cleaning” If the intensities of two beams and are exactly equal, they will destructively interfere and cancel each other, since they are exactly out of phase. There is no reflection from surface, all energy of beam must be in the transmitted ray. II. Layer's thickness is controlled precisely, such that it is exactly one quarter(λ/4 = λ0/4n1) of the wavelength of light in the layer, where λ0 is the vacuum wavelength. The layer is then called a quarter wave coating. Biomimicry: Moth's eye surfaces covered with a natural nanostructured film which eliminate reflections. The structure consists of hexagonal pattern of bumps, bumps are smaller than wavelength of visible light. So, the light sees the surface as having a continuous refractive index gradient between air and medium, which decreases reflection by effectively removing airlens interface. Surface texturing: Rough surface reduce reflection by increasing cancel of reflective rays bouncing back on surface. Light get a second chance to get absorbed.
