Teach a Literacy Lesson
With your assigned group you will:
1. Choose a grade to teach- 2nd grade
2. Decide on a literacy focus area from the Tennessee State
Literacy Standards- Use common coordinating conjunctions.
Capitalize holidays, product names, and geographic names
3. Create a lesson plan that is 15-20 minutes in length
You may use the lesson plan template provided. The lesson plan
should include the following:
a. Objectives- Learning how to common conjunctions and
capitalizing names
b. Standards-Use common coordinating conjunctions.
Capitalize holidays, product names, and geographic
names
c. Materials needed- the materials we need is the
smartboard and three worksheets for the students
d. What the teacher(s) will be doing- the teachers will be
teaching them how to use coordinating conjunctions and
how to capitalize the first letter of the word and proper
noun
e. What the students will be doing- the students will be
learning how to capitalize words and coordinating
conjunctions and be doing three worksheets
f. Assessment- we will have three worksheet for the students
to do
4. Teach the lesson
a. Bring needed materials (I will help as needed)
b. Set up the classroom/area for the lesson.
c. Facilitate learning/activity
d. Assess student’s activity and ability
5. Write a critique of the lesson
a. What went well? A little went well because the students
kept talking and we were a little unorganized.
b. What could be improved? What my group can improve on
is that they can help on the project next time
c. How well did students participate/achieve objectives? The
students did but there were a few people talking and
there was only one student answering and that does not
help us see what other students can do.

Lesson Title: Using common coordinating conjunctions, capitalize
holidays, and product names
Lesson Objectives:
● We will be learning about common coordinating conjunctions
● We will talk about the two idea and the importance of FANBOY
● We will do a worksheet and the basics
● Then we will learning about capitalizing holidays, product
names
● We will talk about the rules that tell when to capitalize the first
letter of the word and the proper noun
● We will do two worksheets on whether to capitalize or not to
capitalize
Standard to be taught:
g. Use common coordinating conjunctions.
h. Capitalize holidays, product names, and geographic names.
Materials and Resources:
We use three worksheets and a smartboard.
Instructional Plan: (What will the teacher do and what will students
do?)
The teacher will be up there at the smartboard and we will be
teaching them common coordinating conjunctions, capitalize
holidays, product names, and geographic.
The students will be learning on how to do common coordinating
conjunctions, capitalize holidays, product names, and geographic.
We will also hand out three worksheets to help the students learn
more/ understand it more.
Assessment: (How will you know that the objectives are met?)
I will know that the objectives are met on how the students answer
the questions and on how they do on the worksheets.
