learn how to simplify expressions
with multiple operators and solve for
their final values. After going through
this lesson, you are expected to
Perform a Series of More than Two
Operations on Whole Numbers.”
“Before going through our lesson for
today, let’s review some basic skills
that we will need. This review will be
a group activity. You will not answer
all the equations. Use your metacards
and pentel pen in answering the
equations.”

“Since, we are done with our review,
Super Driller will be back with more
fun and exciting exercises later. I am
sure that you can answer all his drills
with your super power skills.
-Yes/No, teacher!
“Let me ask you, have you been to a
mall?”
-Yes/No, teacher!
“Can you still remember when your
parents bought you a new t-shirt?”
“Today, we will fly off to a beautiful
mall with our story teller, let’s have a
trip and go shopping with the
superhero who loves to tell story (it’s
SuperMath) around the Math
Universe together with sir Ike and
Miss Wennie.”
-Pupils listen &
watch the story
carefully.
“Going back to our class, Sir Ike and
Miss Weng need to know the sum of 4
t-shirts they are buying, less the
discount from the mall, since they
agreed to split the total cost, we will
help them in solving how much each
them need to pay.”
2. Presentation
“Are you ready?”
“When solving for numbers with
multiple operations involved,
what do you think is the first thing to
do?”
-Yes/No Teacher
-We have no idea
Teacher
“Do you have any idea on how to
solve expressions that involve
multiple operations?”
-Yes/No Teacher
“What rule are we going to use?”
-PMDAS/GMDAS
“That’s right! PMDAS or GMDAS!”
“For today’s lesson we will learn how
to perform a series of more than 2
operations on whole numbers using
PMDAS/GMDAS rule.”
“Do you have any idea what
PMDAS/GMDAS mean?”
3. Abstraction/
Discussion
-Yes/No teacher
-The Mathastic Heroes will help us in
explaining and interpreting
Parenthesis, Multiplication, Division,
Addition and Subtraction or the
PMDAS Rule or Grouping,
Multiplication, Division, Addition and
Subtraction or the GMDAS Rule.”
“Now, going back to Sir Ike and Miss
Weng;
Learners listen to
Sir Ike and Miss Wennie went to the
the discussion
mall and plan to buy 4 t-shirts worth attentively and
400.00 pesos each with 200.00 pesos participate well.
discount for each item, they plan to
split the total cost. What will be the
numerical expression to represent
this situation and how much will they
share each for the total cost?”
“In this case, let’s apply your super
power skills in solving problems.”
“Can you still remember the steps in
solving problem? Let me help you.”
-First Step: Understand the Problem
Question 1:
-What is asked in the problem?
“For this problem, what is asked is
the numerical expression or the
number sentence to represent this
situation and the amount of money
each one will pay.”
Question 2:
-What is/are the given facts?
a. The price of each shirt worth
400.00 pesos.
b. The total number of shirts
purchased which is 4.
c. The discount to the price of each
item which is 200.00 pesos.
-Second Step: Make a Plan.
Question:
-What strategy/operation will be
used?
“In this case, we will use the
PMDAS/GMDAS Rule to solve for the
numerical expression”
“But before we solve, let’s identify the
number sentence of the word
problem”
“Let’s group the cost of each t-shirt
with the discount given, so that will
be;
(400-200)
since they will buy 4 t-shirts, we will
multiply it by 4, now we have;
(400-200) x 4
lastly, since Sir Ike and Miss Weng
planned to divide the total cost to
each of them, we divided it by 2
so, our final numerical expression
will be;”
(400-200)×4÷2
-Third Step: Solve the Problem
“Let’s begin with the numbers inside
the parenthesis
(400-200)×4÷2
(400-200)
=200×4÷2
(200×4) =800 (The total price of 4 t
shirts worth 400.00 pesos each, less
than the discount which is 200.00
pesos each, but we still need to divide
the total cost so Sir Ike and Miss Weng
will know how much they need to
pay.)
=800÷2
=400(Sir Ike and Miss Weng will pay
400.00 pesos each)
Now, let’s talk about the rules and
concepts of operations using the
PMDAS/GMDAS Rule
First, let us know what is PMDAS- it
is an acronym that stands for;
P-parenthesis
M- multiplication
D- division
A- addition
S- subtraction
While GMDAS stands for;
G- grouping symbols
M- multiplication
D- division
A- addition
S- subtraction
To perform a series of operations on
whole numbers involving more than 2
operations using PMDAS or GMDAS,
remember these rules;
Rule # 1:
Perform the operations within each pair
of grouping symbols (parenthesis,
brackets, and braces) beginning with the
innermost pair.
Rule # 2:
Perform multiplication and division as
they occur from left to right.
Rule #3:
Perform addition and subtraction as they
occur from left to right.
4. Guided Practice
A. Teacher to
Pupil
“Pupils, I think you are now ready to
solve for more, here’s an example;”
20+10×(30-25)
(First, solve the equation inside the
parenthesis)
20+10×5
(Then, perform the multiplication)
20+50
(Then perform the addition to get the
final answer)
The final answer is, 70.
“Let’s have another example,
Pupils will
answer the
activities given
Example 1:
25+15-(6x2)+60
Example 2:
216-118+(10x9)-109
“Now, let’s check if you are listening
well, let’s have a drill with, Super
Driller.” (Group Activity)
“Each group will solve and answer
the activity given. Whichever group
gets the correct answer in a given
period of time will be the winner. Be
careful and be mindful while doing
the activity.”
“For the next activity, each group will
choose 1 representative to play and
solve the game involving 2 or more
operations.”
Royal Family Rescue
Students are on a mission to rescue
the Royal Family. They take the roled
of armor or Sally first. The challenge is
to solve the order of operations
problem’s stages and move up the
ladder. The task requires you to select
the operation and the numbers which
you choose to solve first.
“There you have it Pupils, you have
just gained another super power in
Mathastic Heroes, solving problems
with more than 2 operations on whole
numbers using PMDAS or GMDAS
Rule.”
“Now, here’s another Mathastic Hero
to test if you can still remember the
super rules and concepts in solving
problems with more than 2
operations on whole numbers using
the PMDAS or GMDAS Rule.”
“She is always wondering if you
mastered your skill. She is
WonderWoMath.”
B. Pupil to pupil
(Group work)
“Pupils, you are now on in your final
quest. We will have a group activity.
Each group will choose an envelope
containing equations. You are going
to answer the equation found inside
the envelope that you have chosen.
The group that can answer the
equation correctly will be the winner.
Then each group will choose a
representative to explain their
answer. ”
These are the equations found in the
envelopes:
7 × 2 − (9 + 2)=
(6 ÷ 3) × (11 − 4) =
9 × 3 + (20 − 18)=
(37 − 17) − 10 × 4 =
C. Pupil to
Material
“Each group will be given with a
manila paper for them to show the
steps in solving problem.”
Solve the problem by showing the
steps in problem solving.
Learners actively
engage with the
group.
Groups 1 & 4
Carla receives a daily allowance of
60.00 pesos. She spends 22.00 pesos
for her transportation, 20.00 pesos
for snacks, and saves the rest. How
much does she save in 21 days?
Groups 2 & 3
There are 38 books on the shelf.
Marta put 10 more books on the shelf
and her mom put 4 more books on
the shelf. Her sister borrowed 15
books for her classmates. How many
books are on the shelf now?
5. Generalization
Have the pupils formulate the
generalization by asking:
“What have you learn about
our lesson today?”
Have the pupils
understand the
following
concepts:
“How are we going to perform a Series To perform a
of More than Two Operations on
series of
Whole Numbers?”
operations on
whole numbers
involving more
than 2 operations
using PMDAS or
GMDAS,
remember these
rules;
Rule # 1:
Perform the
operations within
each pair of
grouping symbols
(parenthesis,
brackets, and
braces) beginning
with the innermost
pair.
Rule # 2:
