My Celebratory Speech Date:

BACKGROUND
Your task is to visualize yourself in 30 years. Where will you be? What have you accomplished? Do you
have a family? Pretend as though you are presenting yourself for an award (whatever award you choose. It
could be a Grammy, lifetime achievement award, Oscar, foundation award, etc.) Prepare a 2-3 minute
Celebratory speech and tell the audience why you are receiving this award.
To learn and practice the following principles of speech preparation:
● Creating a presentation with an introduction, body and conclusion
● Utilizing transitions
● Speech delivery
● To provide you with the opportunity to develop effective delivery skills and to make you feel more
at ease with public speaking
PLANNING & PREPARATION
This is a 2-3 minutes speech of how you see yourself and others see you in 30 years. Give a brief
introduction, body and conclusion. You may bring 2 delivery note cards to give your speech. You are to
present a polished, well-rehearsed presentation that follows the basic guidelines of speech organization.

The Basic Celebratory Speech

THE INTRODUCTION
A. First focus/Attention Getter – Establish a rapport or common ground with
audience to maintain their attention. (A quote, statistic or statement to help the
audience focus on your presence and presentation)
B. Thesis – One statement summarizing your main idea.
C. Preview statement – A sentence listing the specific points (a, b, c, etc.) you
will discuss to support your thesis.
