ORAL EXAMS Candidates are examined in pairs or groups of three SENIOR 3 (As from 15/16 years old) Duration: 8 to 10 minutes approx. Objective: to generate a meaningful context for effective speaking production The exam consists of different sections or parts Part 1 Ice breaker The students introduce themselves, either by answering personal questions such as name, age, likes and dislikes, hobbies, studies, job, etc, using the expected structures included in each syllabus or by briefly talking about themselves for a few seconds. Part 2 Individual long turn The students talk for a few minutes about a visual trigger, such as a set of pictures connected to a topic. The students may have to answer questions, provide descriptions, express personal opinions, compare or contrast, etc depending on the level. Part 3 Two-way discussion The students are presented with a situation that provides a context for interaction with their partner(s) for a few minutes in a spontaneous, non-rehearsed manner. Part 4 Personal opinion The students express their opinion on a reader by answering nonspecific questions. 1
