INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
Bamboo shoots or Bamboo sprouts are the edible shoots of many
bamboo species including Bambusa vulgaris and Phyllostachys edulis.
These are used as vegetables in numerous Asian dishes and broths.
These are sold in various processed shapes, and are available in fresh,
dried, and canned versions. One of the young expanding buds from the
rhizome of bamboo cut as soon as it appears above ground and used as a
vegetable especially in Asian cuisine. Bamboo shoots are edible shoots of
the bamboo plant and are usually harvested before they are two weeks
old. The bamboo shoots have a tough exterior and a tender interior with
a faintly sweet flavour. It is important to peel the Bamboo shoots before
using since they have a bitter taste and are difficult to digest. (Tarla dalal)
Bamboo shoots come from bamboo plant. The researchers decided to
make a fried ball from a bamboo shoots. The goal of the researcher is
that they want to try a new product that is good for health, to be
innovative, and to ensure another bamboo product.
Bamboo shoot is good for high blood pressure and it is highly nutritious
and it contains a good amount of fiber, copper, and vitamin B6.

Furthermore, Bamboo shoots are considered as one of the best foods in
the Philippine culture. Bamboo shoots helped us to treat different
internal sickness just like stomach disorder. (Rachel Link, MS, RD)
Objective of the Study
This study will be conducted to determine the viability of Bamboo
shoot (Fried Balls).
Specifically, it aims to:
1. determine the nutrients present in Bamboo shoot fried ball;
2. determine the ingredients in making Bamboo shoot fried ball;
3. determine the cost of Bamboo shoot fried balls;
4. compare the Bamboo shoot fried ball with the commercial fried ball in
terms of:
a) Appearance
b) Taste
c) Cost
Hypothesis
There is no significant difference between the Bamboo shoot fried
balls and the commercial fried ball in terms of:
a) Appearance
b) Taste
c) Cost
