Pachinko - 500-page multigenerational epic about a Korean immigrant family in Japan Mother’s sacrifice Trying to make in a world that doesn’t accept them A family surviving through World War 2, including bombing of Hiroshima Lot of stuff on identity Immigrant story that’s for everyone Wow I’m falling behind on this. Every month I try to read at least one book and review it. September’s book: Pachinko by Min Jin Lee. Pachinko is a 500-page multigenerational epic that chronicles the story of one family through four generations. Told mainly from the perspective of the matriarch Sunja, it’s a story of a mother doing everything she can so that her children may survive in a foreign world that does not accept them. From living in Japanese-occupied Korea as a young girl to raising a family as a single mother in Japan, this story of a mother’s love and sacrifice transcends barriers and hits close to home.
