NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME
SHIVAJI COLLEGE
University Of Delhi
(Accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade)
SESSION 2019-20
FROM THE PRINCIPAL ’S DESK
"I am a lighthouse rather than lifeboat. I do not rescue, but instead help
others to find their way to shore, guiding them by my example." We at Shivaji
College believe in setting examples, being role models, and lending ourselves to
selfless service towards the community. The aim of the NSS, Shivaji College chapter,
is to instil a spirit of community service amongst young students. We strongly believe
that our energetic and involved youth can make pathbreaking changes in alleviating
the problems of society and become guiding lights, ever ready to step in and help
the marginalised and oppressed. In this spirit, the NSS conducts numerous initiatives
through the session, including community outreach programmes as well as the promotion of education for the
underprivileged. The lockdown period and the COVID19 crisis provided fresh challenges towards continuing our
endeavours of social service. The NSS stepped up successfully, shifting to online platforms to ensure the
continuance of lively dialogue and debate on modern day social issues to inspire our students to contribute to
society. Regardless of what difficult times we face, our strong belief is that Shivaji College shall prevail. Our path
towards changing society and alleviating its problems will not diverge and through the NSS and its members, we
will always lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Stay safe, stay strong and let's defeat this crisis with courage,
selflessness and cooperation.

Harmony is the pleasant combination of different notes of music played at the same time.
If people are living in harmony with each other, they are living together peacefully rather than fighting or arguing.
Mankind should dominate nature rather than live in harmony.

Well this one is a personal revelation......
There was a time, I use to wonder, as to WHY somebody or anybody does not do something or at least anything to
bring about a change in the situation (mostly deteriorating environmental settings). I later realized that I was also
the one who didn't do nothing.
Dr Ashwani Sharma
Assistant Professor
