Part 1: Identify and Work with PC NICs
Step 1: Use the Network and Sharing Center.
c. In the Network Connections window, what did you see? Identify and explain
In the Network Connections window, I can see three items which are Bluetooth Network
Connection, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi.
Bluetooth is a proprietary networking standard used for short-range wireless connectivity
and is often used to connect peripherals to base devices.
Ethernet is the traditional technology for connecting devices in a wired local area network
(LAN) or wide area network (WAN).
Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technology that allows devices such as computers (laptops
and desktops), mobile devices (smartphones and wearables), and other equipment (printers
and video cameras) to interface with the Internet.
Step 2: Work with your wireless NIC.
c. Right-click a wireless network connection, and then click Status. What did you see?
In the wireless connection status, I can see general info about the wireless connection that my
computer is connected to. Under the connection heading, I can see IPv4 connectivity and
IPv6 connectivity are Internet. The media state is enabled. The SSID is khiruddin_5G@unifi.
The duration is 00.04.54. The speed is 866.7 Mbps. The signal quality is five bars. The bytes
of wireless connection for sent is 9,428,111 while bytes for received is 138,347,684.
d. What is the Service Set Identifier (SSID) for the wireless router of your connection?
The Service Set Identifier (SSID) for the wireless router of my connection is
khiruddin_5G@unifi.
e. What is the speed of your wireless connection?
the speed of my wireless connection is 866.7 Mbps.
f. Click Details to display the Network Connection Details window. What is the MAC
address of your wireless NIC? Do you have multiple IPv4 DNS Servers listed? If so, why
would multiple DNS Servers be listed?
The MAC address of my wireless NIC is 38-68-93-88-3C-4A. No, I don’t have multiple IPv4
DNS Servers listed.
g. Open a Windows Command Prompt and type ipconfig /all. Describe on your wireless NIC.
For my wireless NIC, the Connection-specific DNS suffix is realtek. Description is Intel(R)
Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz. DHCP Enabled is Yes. Autoconfiguration Enabled is Yes. IPv6
Address is 2001:e68:5423:192c:a85b:3fbe:eca3:c7d0(Preferred). IPv6 Address is
fc01::a85b:3fbe:eca3:c7d0(Preferred).Temporary IPv6 Address is
2001:e68:5423:192c:1c7a:4ffd:17ba:779d(Preferred).Temporary IPv6 Address is
fc01::1c7a:4ffd:17ba:779d(Preferred). Link-local IPv6 Address is
fe80::a85b:3fbe:eca3:c7d0%9(Preferred). IPv4 Address is 192.168.1.10(Preferred). Subnet
Mask is 255.255.255.0. Lease Obtained is Wednesday, 26 October 2022 10:39:13 AM. The
lease Expires is Wednesday, 26 October 2022 2:39:15 PM. Default Gateway is
fe80::66ee:b7ff:fefc:6729%9 192.168.1.1. DHCP Server is 192.168.1.1. DHCPv6 IAID is
87582867. DHCPv6 Client DUID is 00-01-00-01-26-CB-08-96-00-2B-67-EC-6D-84. DNS
Servers is fe80::66ee:b7ff:fefc:6729%9192.168.1.1. NetBIOS over Tcpip is Enabled.
i.
In the Wireless Network Properties window, click the Security tab. Explain what you
saw.
In the Wireless Network Properties window, after clicking the security tab, I can see
the security type is WPA2-Personal, the encryption type is AES, and the network
security key.
j. Close the Wireless Network Properties and the Wi-Fi Status windows. Select and rightclick the Wi-Fi option > Connect/Disconnect. Explain what did you see.
After I clicked > Connect/Disconnect on the Wi-Fi option, I can see the disconnect button on
the SSID that my computer connected to on the bottom right of my screen.
k. To join one of the other wireless network SSIDs listed, click the SSID that you want to
join, and then click Connect. Describe what will happen next.
When I clicked connect on the SSID that I want to join, it asked me to enter the network
security key to enable me to click the next button below it and there was a cancel button too.
Step 3: Work with your wired NIC.
Based on your experience Step 2, do answer:
a. Describe what did you see when you are on the Network Connections window, select
and right-click the Ethernet option to display the drop-down list.
When I right-click the Ethernet option, disable, status, diagnose, bridge connections,
create shortcut, delete, rename, and properties are displayed in the drop-down list.
b. What is the results when you click the Status window?
When I click the status window, general info about the Ethernet is displayed. Under the
connection heading, IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity are internet. Media state is enabled. Duration
is 00:00:51. Speed is 1.0 Gbps. Then, there’s a details button.
Under the activity heading, the bytes of wired connection for sent is 354,393 while the bytes
for received is 7,907,140. Then, there’re properties, disable and diagnose buttons on the
bottom.
c. What is the purpose of Details?
the purpose of Details is to show the details of the network connection.
d. At the command window prompt and type ipconfig /all. What is the difference
between Ethernet adapter information and the information displayed on wireless NIC?
Close a Windows Command Prompt.
The difference between the Ethernet adapter information and the information
displayed on the wireless NIC is for the description of Ethernet, it displayed Realtek
PCIe GbE Family Controller while the description for the wireless NIC is Intel(R)
Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz
Part 2: Identify and Use the System Tray Network Icons
In Part 2, you will use the network icons in your system tray to determine and control
the NICs on your PC.
Step 1: Use the network icon.
c. In the Network Connections window, right-click Wi-Fi. What happens if you click
Disable?
When I clicked disable on Wi-Fi, the Wi-Fi turned off and my computer cannot
connect to any Wi-Fi connections.
d. You can also disable the Ethernet network. Explain how.
In the Network and Sharing Center window, click Change adapter settings on the left pane,
right-click on ethernet, then, click disable.
Step 2: Identify the Network Problem icon.
a. In the Network and Sharing Center, explain how your PC could resolve the network
issue for you?
In the Network and Sharing Center, my computer could resolve the network issue for
me by clicking the troubleshooting programs. It will diagnose and repair network
problems or get troubleshooting info.
Reflection Question
Why would you activate more than one NIC on a PC?
I would activate more than one NIC on a PC because it improves throughput across
the servers and provides an additional failover measure. It also enables more control
such as better traffic isolation.
