Novel: 2040 - The streets of San Fransisco fl fl fi fl fi fi fi ff fl fl fi fi ff fl fi After introducing the main characters in a long opening scene, Eric and his brother Rick were on their way into the post-apocalyptic city of San Fransisco in USA. Destroyed buildings, green already reaching out of 5 story high buildings and the wildlife nding its’ way back into the big metropole. Even the golden Gate bridge was no longer hanging over the brutal dark ocean with its’ innocent red color showing the contrast between the old colorful city and the now existing dark post-apocalyptic atmosphere. There had to be all kinds of monster like animals in that dark and endless ocean. The goal for today was to reach the Building 21. The buildings were labeled that way by the brothers. Things like buildings and architectures didn’t have any meaning anymore. In fact, nothing except the brothers themselves had any meaning for them anymore. Everything was just labeled with numbers or letters. Times where owning certain objects gave meaning and status to a human being was due. After taking some shortcuts, the brothers arrived at Building 21. It was a big building where you couldn’t even see the top of it because it was covered by black and grey foggy clouds. Entering the building, a sudden smell rst appeared. It smelled like rotten esh that would lie around for months unnoticed. It instantly caught their attention. In the corner of the lobby of the popular former hotel there were cadavers of dead animals. The cadavers were the ones of the animals you could watch crossing the streets and roaming the open town. Erics ght instinct suddenly kicked in. He was the more active brother that always faced his problems with violence. While Eric may be better at physical activities, Rick was the smarter brother. When there was a problem, he could sense it from miles away. “Some of the cadavers have just recently been killed. Let’s get closer I need to examine the cadavers. We may not be alone in here, Eric..” Rick said. As the brothers got closer, the smelling got worse and worse. Rick looked at the cadaver and became silent for a moment. After a short pause he began panicking. “Do you see what I see?” He asked. Eric, not sensing the danger of the situation began raising his voice in curiosity: “What is it that you see, Rick? Tell me stop hiding something!” “Shh be quiet! The bite wounds of the cadavers signal that there is a Lion very near.” Rick replied. As there was a Zoo near town the animals could escape very easily and because of the fact the Lions did not have any rivals they could reproduce easily. However, that the lions would be able to enter buildings caught the brothers o guard. A sudden roar caught the Brothers attention. There was a giant Lion across the lobby, looking at them with blood still running down its’ teeth. Often the male Lions live on their own while the female Lions watch out for their children so it was clear that there was only one Lion. The brothers were in a rush. They needed to escape now. As the Lion ran towards them, Eric pulled Rick onto the stair case. “Run, we need to run upstairs now!” Eric shouted as they ran up to the rst oor. The rst oor was empty. Just a bunch of closed doors of the old hotel rooms. On the next oor they couldn’t detect any open doors as well. They didn’t have much time left as the roar got closer and closer. On the 3rd oor, it seems as if there was a second lobby. It was pitch black. “We need to nd a hiding spot quickly!” Rick shouted as they were running into the pitch dark, unknown place. To their luck there was a small hole in one of the curtains. Because of the small light which shines into the room, Rick noticed a bunch of lockers in the corner of the lobby. To their surprise one of the lockers was open. Quick thinking with an addition of adrenaline resulted in the brothers squeezing themselves in a locker that was meant for a family worth of suitcases. Silence As the brothers were getting quieter, the furious lion also became quieter. The only noise there was left was the paws and its’ claws touching the oor as he got closer to the brother’s hiding spot. The brothers knew they could only hold their breath for a certain amount of time before the lion would hear their heavy breathing. Suddenly the lion started turning around. He ran o quickly. It seemed as if he was running away from something. As the brothers were confused something caught their attention too. A loud engine like sound was driving on the streets. They couldn’t believe their hearing so Eric pushed the curtains away and locked eyes with a big truck lled with people who appear to be searching for food. They had weapons and as one of them noticed the curtains being pushed away the truck was stopped and people started running into the building. The people were Raiders which erose out of the apocalyptic situation and made any other survivors of the city unsafe. As the brothers heared them entering the building they knew it was time to run. Time to run now. As quickly as possible.
