What is the study plan?
 The
study plan is an organized document
enlisting the student’s set academic goals with a
timeline to follow.
What should be included in the study
plan?
 Your academic background
 The last degree’s information
 Your academic fruition
 Your beliefs about the hosting country’s culture
 Reasons to study in that country
 Your learning objectives
 Your plans to achieve learning objectives/goals
 Your skills and conclusion
Tips for writing the study plan?
 Be personal
 Be realistic
 Be achievable
 Link with your previous personal experiences and
your future plans

Sample study plan essay question
 Write a clear and detailed description of your study
objectives and give reasons for wanting to pursue
them. Be specific about your major field and your
specialized interests within this field. Describe the
kind of program you want to undertake, and explain
how your study plan fits in with your previous training
and your future objectives.
How to write the hook paragraph?
Reflecting on my past working experience in design
and construction, I realize that our country needs
adequate housing and industries to welcome
investment from foreign countries. Therefore, I have
always been eager to be involved in managing
cities by implementing effective projects for
buildings and essential infrastructures so that jobs
can be created for people.
Add your personal experience
 In 2008, I encountered Cyclone Nargis that killed over
hundreds of thousand due to a lack of cyclone shelters and
strong buildings. This experience made me realize that
structurally stable buildings are necessary for public safety.
I have also witnessed the life-saving benefits of well-built
shelters that could prevent residents from the danger of
collapse. When I conducted seismic evaluation in Yangon,
I found that the majority of buildings have been
deteriorating and they need urgent repair to withstand the
destructive forces of natural disasters. Therefore, I would
like to design earthquake-proof buildings to reduce the
possibility of death due to a lack of quality design and
construction practices.
Link your personal experience and your
course
 To help overcome these challenges in Myanmar, I
recognize the need of an advanced degree in
Structural engineering to maximize my contribution to
infrastructure development. Therefore, I have decided
to pursue Master of Civil Engineering. I am
passionate about learning to utilize advanced Civil
and construction engineering theories in mitigating
practical infrastructure problems such as improper
designs and poor construction guidelines so that I
could practically apply the theories when I design
buildings and supervise construction process for
structural stability.
Add your future plans clearly
 To achieve my career goals, once I complete my
studies, I will use my knowledge and competencies
learned
from
XXXX
towards
infrastructure
development in Myanmar. Since I worked for
Myanmar
Earthquake
Committee
and
have
experience in the analysis of buildings in earthquakeprone areas, I plan to go back to this organization and
I will enhance existing buildings safety and create
earthquake-proof buildings. As the government and
local engineering industries still use conventional and
outdated design methods for buildings, I aspire to
change this notion by developing new techniques and
coordinating with international organizations (INGOs)
to ensure a positive change in the analysis, design
and evaluation of buildings.
Future plans
 Due do my capacity in the analysis and design of
buildings and my experience in the renovation of
monastic infrastructures and cinemas projects, I
am confident I will be able to get involved in the
government’s reform projects in Myanmar
particularly in cities and infrastructure for growth
(CIG) projects. In this role, I will assist in the
design firm to improve urban community and
productivity. I will achieve this by implementing
stable infrastructures so that the cities in
Myanmar will become climate resistant and
livable.
Expected outcomes
 Due to my ultimate contribution, I look forward to
seeing my country with modern infrastructures
that can attract businesses and jobs for Myanmar
society, as well as prevent structural failures. With
my strong determination and hard work, I am
certain that I am able to do world-leading
research in structural design practices with the
experts in Taiwan and nurture the exchange of
ideas. I can also establish professional network
with my international classmates and find
solutions for structural design issues.
Conclusion
 Therefore, I am confident that my proposed study
will bring me skills, knowledge, networks and
collaborations that can support my career goals
and fulfill my dreams of working for sustainable
infrastructure development of Myanmar.
