I’m writing because I noticed that my most recent credit report contains a late payment reported on “DATE” for my Capital One Credit Card account. I want you to know that I understand my financial obligations, and if it weren’t for “INSERT REASON (hardship, etc)”, I’d have an excellent repayment record. I made a mistake in falling behind, but since then, I’ve made my finances a priority and have organized all of my accounts and payment due dates, both on my computer and on paper, along with notifications and reminders for each one. Since then, I’ve had a spotless record of on-time payments. I’m planning to apply for a “INSERT MORTGAGE, LOAN, ETC), and it’s come to my attention that the missed payment on my record could hurt my ability to qualify. I truly believe that it doesn’t reflect my creditworthiness and commitment to repaying my debts. It would help me immensely if you could give me a second chance and make a goodwill adjustment to remove the late payment in “INSERT DATE”. Thank you for your consideration, and I hope you’ll approve my request. Best, YOUR NAME www.designersoapbox.com 8 SECOND METHOD USE THIS METHOD ONLY: IF YOU SIMPLY CAN NOT FIND THE COMPANY EMAIL OR CEO EMAIL. GO THE COMPANY FACEBOOK BUSINESS PAGE OR LINKEDIN AND MESSAGE THEM THE GOODWILL LETTER THROUGH MESSENGER. www.designersoapbox.com 9 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q Will this method work on active accounts? A Yes, this method works great on your current and open accounts. Q How will I be contacted? A They will either call or email you with their response, so try to look to out for any out of state phone numbers. Q What If I have more than 5 late payments on an active account? A This method works great for 3-5 late payments. If you have more than 5 payments still include all of your late payments in the letter. Q Will this work for an account that is placed for collection with late payments? A If your account is placed for collection, I would dispute the account for reporting inaccurate information regarding late payments. A collection account should not include late payments once it's in collection. Q Will this work with mortgage companies? A Yes, I recommended getting in contact with the CEO of the mortgage company and letting them know your situation. www.designersoapbox.com 10 Q What If I can't find the company CEO's email? A If you're unable to find the CEO email, I recommended reaching out to them by social media or you can mail in the letter to their address. Q Should I include my contact information in the email? A Yes, please include a good contact number for them to reach you at. Q I sent the email but I haven't got a response from them yet. A If you have not received a response from them yet, you can also fax the letter or mail the letter to the company address. Make sure to address the CEO in the letter. www.designersoapbox.com 11
