Startup Law Exam 2021
Part A (50%)
"Hi, I hope all is good with you. We haven't talked in a while but I've been following your career with
great interest and seen how successful your startup has become. I'm considering setting up a startup
with some colleagues and was wondering what your top 3 pieces of advice are."
You received the email above from a long-time friend who is looking for advice regarding setting a
startup. Please write a memo covering in a detailed yet accessible way the three main areas you
consider most helpful for your friend.
Assume the following:
- Your friend is based in the EU.
- He is looking for transferable advice, that is advice that is relevant irrespective of the specific sector
he may be interested in working.
Instructions:
- Write the answer in a memo format: accessible, clear but precise.
- Pick three of the modules of the course (except module 4) to base your answer on and explain why
you consider them the most important in your opinion.
- In your answer consider both the legal and strategic implications of your suggestions. Think about
what you would like to have known if you were starting up a company now.
- This is not a piece of academic writing so that means no academic citations but links and references
to sources mentioned throughout the semester are welcome and appropriate. As will be other
sources you may (and should) find in your research.
Part B (50%)
Your company is considering raising a financing round soon and you have been tasked to prepare
one slide about the legal and strategic overview for the shared micromobility industry inside the EU.
In this document you have the opportunity to consider the strategic risks and opportunities/benefits
offered by the legal regime applicable to shared micromobiliy operators inside the EU.
Instructions:
- Base your submission on the content from modules 1-5, in particular module 4 (but not
exclusively so), and also your own independent research to deepen some of the topics. Do
not include material from module 6.
- Write from the perspective of the shared micromobility industry and not that of your
company.
- Write in a precise way for a professional audience using a mixture of bullet points and text
- Use font size 12 only.
- The powerpoint template slide is available on the canvas site for the course. Fill it in and
export it as a PDF and submit on the exam platform as an annex to the exam.
