Tomampoc Background of the study During the COVID-19 pandemic, online classes emerged as a critical component of modernizing the conventional educational system. This reform has resulted in a number of advantages but also created conflicts and disappointments between beneficiaries and educational actors. The choice for or need of online education has called into question the effectiveness between online and face-toface education. As a result of this issue, the researchers plan to conduct this study to find out which is the most effective modes of learning between the online and face-to-face classes in terms of the students academic performance. Significance of the Study The result of this study will be of great significance to the following people: Students. This study can help the students understand which is more effective between online and face-to-face classes. Moreover, the students can gain knowledge about the advantages and disadvantages of online and face-to-face classes. Teachers. The result of the study will help the teachers to gain a deeper understanding on which is more appropriate and effective modes of learning to conduct their lessons to prevent problems in their students’ learning experiences. Schools. The result of this study will help the schools in assessing the effectiveness between online and face-to-face classes. Furthermore, it will help the schools to determine what are the effective ways of learnings and how to conduct them properly. Future Researchers. This study will help provide liable, relevant, and accurate ideas to the future researchers. The results of the study can serve as a credible reference and provides more information of the effectiveness of online and face-to-face classes. Statement of the Problem The study aims to analyze the effectiveness of online learning compared to face-to- face classes among the selected grade 7 learners of El Salvador City National High School in their first quarter Mathematics academic performance for the school year 2021-2022. This study specifically aims to answer the following questions: 1. Which of the two learning environments leads to the best academic performance of the selected grade 7 learners during the first quarter of their Mathematics subject? 2. How do the students deal or handle the changes of the learning environment from face-toface classes to online classes? 3. Are the students able to effectively adapt the learning process of the two modes of education? Hypothesis Based on the formulated questions above, Face-to-face classes is more effective compared to Online Learning in terms of the students academic performance. Scope and limitation of the study This research will primarily focus on identifying which is more effective between the online and face-to-face classes in terms of the academic performance of the selected grade 7 learners in their Mathematics subject for the first quarter in the school year 2021-2022. This will be conducted at El Salvador City National High School, Junior High School Building. Definition of terms Academic Performance.
