water THE HYDROLOGIC CYCLE 4 2 5 3 1 6 7 8 How can we define the water cycle? • A natural process in which water is cycled between the earth’s surface and the atmosphere using the sun’s energy to change state. What is the importance of the water cycle? • Replaces water used by people or lost in rivers to the sea. • Regulates the earth’s temperature by absorbing heat from the equator and circulating it around earth. • It is a self-purifying system. DRINKING INDUSTRIAL DOMESTIC USES OF WATER POWER GENERATION AGRICULTURAL WATER PURIFICATION • POTABLE WATER- water which is free from disease-causing microorganisms and has no undesirable tastes, colours, odours or harmful chemicals. There are different methods of water purification, each effective against a specific form of contamination, thus more than one method must be used. • Activity-students to create a flow diagram for the treatment of water. (arrange the different methods).
