Parts of Speech Mystery Pictures
Teacher Directions-Fall Set #1
Get ready to have your students excited to review their parts of speech. With the easy
to understand format and the included color keys, these practice pages will be one of the
easiest activities you use all year.
Each of the four pictures includes a review of parts of speech- Four Mystery Pictures
Using Parts of Speech: Pronouns, Conjunctions, Interjections, Prepositions, Person Common Nouns,
Action Verbs, Abstract Nouns, Concrete Nouns, State of Being Verbs, Adjectives, Adverbs, & Verb
Tenses (Present, Past, Future) making this the perfect set to test your students' knowledge or
help them practice finding and identifying words by their part of speech.
Directions for Use:
1- Copy the mystery picture that you want your students to complete (or all of them and
hand out random pages).
2-Deomonstrate for the students how to use the color key at the bottom of the page to
complete the picture. Example: If the crayon in the box says "Purple," all the words that match
that part of speech would be colored purple on the grid.
3- Instruct students to color all 100 words to reveal the mystery picture.
4- Enjoy as the students’ grin and cheer when their mystery picture appears.

Alternate Ways to Enjoy These Mystery Pictures
Have students tell a story about the revealed mystery picture. You could send the
completed page home and have the student write a story on the back.
Have students use five or more of the words on the picture to write a short story.
Send home the page as a homework or extra credit assignment.
Complete together projected on interactive whiteboard/under document camera
I hope that you enjoy sharing these with your students as much as I enjoyed creating
them for my writing classes! Keep them excited all year long with more sets of mystery pictures
for each month available in my Created by MrHughes shops!
If you need further assistance or have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
I am willing to help in any way that I am able.
