Students cultivate their understanding of physics through classroom study, in-class activity, and hands-on, inquiry-based laboratory work as they explore concepts like systems, fields, force interactions, change, conservation, and waves. Newtonian mechanics (including rotational dynamics and angular momentum); work, energy, and power; mechanical waves and sound. It will also introduce electric circuits and modern physics. Unit 1: Introduction to Physics/Kinematics in One Dimension Unit 2: Newton’s Laws of Motion Unit 3: Kinematics in Two Dimensions Unit 4: Universal Gravitation Unit 5: Conservation of Energy STAAR % = 97% Masters / 70% meets expectations/ 40% Approaches ACP = 70% passing Attendance = 98% attendance rate To successfully complete this course, you will need ● Laptop ● Spiral College ruled Notebook ● 3-ring Binder ● Pens/pencils 1. Late Work is minus 10 points for every late day. Max points off is 30. To ensure that test grades reflect content mastery, a student will be permitted to retake any major test they have failed within 3 school days of the failing grade being received or no later than 5 days of the date of the test. Students must schedule a time with a teacher outside of normal class hours such as before school or lunch to retake a test. If the test is passed on the second attempt, the failing grade will be removed from the grade book, and the passing grade will be recorded. This will be the same procedures for any lab experiment or lab quiz. When student behavior or actions demonstrate that a major test was failed due to lack of effort or inappropriate behavior, a grade penalty may be applied. The grade penalty will be either the average of the two tests or a 70 (if either the average or the second attempt is above 70). The grade given to a student failing the test for the second time will be the higher score earned on either test. Your attendance and participation are expected during each class/lab period. In the event of an absence, you are responsible for and will be evaluated on all course material presented during your absence. It is your responsibility to obtain information from the teacher, google classroom, or a trustworthy classmate about any in-class announcements or homework assignments. The syllabus is a guide. Circumstances and events, such as student progress, may make it necessary for the teacher to modify the syllabus during the semester. Any changes made to the syllabus will be announced in advance.
