Key Word Speaking Outline

__Get attention
__Clearly state topic
__Establish credibility or relevance of topic to audience
__Previews main points
Body of Speech
__Speech structured around 3 main points.
__Transitions heard before starting each main point.
__Speech is organized and easy to follow.
__Speech content is informative and relevant to speaker’s topic.
__Speech relies on a variety of support materials.
__Contains some brief examples and extended examples (narrative is optional).
__Contains some statistics & other empirical data like polls, surveys or financial costs.
__Contains some expert testimony & peer testimony (paraphrasing or direct quotes).
Conclusion
__Signals to audience that you are wrapping up (e.g. in closing…)
__Summarizes main points or restates central idea of speech.
__Finishes strong, writes a true conclusion (avoids ending with “that’s it.”)
Delivery
__Establishes eye contact with audience throughout speech
__Volume audible
__Extemporaneous delivery (consults outline) rather than manuscript delivery (reading
entire speech verbatim).
__Presentation fulfills 5-minute time requirement; I’ll spot you 30-seconds under or over.
