Well, I would like to talk about the “historical flood” that happened in Hanoi a decade
ago, 2008. This must be the year that Hanoians can never forget.
It is memorable because the rain was so heavy and lasted for many days consecutively
that inundated many streets of Hanoi. (Example) The rain was considered heaviest in the last 50
years, which caused people to suffer from a lot of damage. Precipitation reached a record
high and almost all activities were paused to ensure the safety of both people and property.
According to statistics, many families even suffered from inundation as high level of water flew
into their houses. Offices or schools had to make emergency announcement to let their
employees and students be at home to avoid any potential accidents that may caused by
the pouring rain. Life then had a lot of disturbance and people had to wait until it stopped
raining. The rain triggered inconvenience for people in different fields as high death toll was
recorded, traffic was in no order or people stood a high chance of dangerous epidemics. Luckily,
after a few days, life began to come back to the way it was thanks to concerted effort of both
local authority and many people of the city.
Nowadays, more and more people are choosing to live in metropolises. In this essay, both
benefits and drawbacks will be discussed in more depth.
On the one hand, by living in urban areas, people would have countless opportunities. First of all,
they could be easier to find a good job with a high salary. For example, the salary of people who
work in Ho Chi Minh City and Ha Noi capital is higher than people who work in countryside.
Moreover, the people’s living standard in modern zones are much higher than other areas. It can
be seen that public services and health care services and many other things are much better than
it is in rural areas.
In contrast, there are many problems for living in big cities. First of all, the pollution is a serious
issue. It is obvious that many people in urban areas are suffering from air pollution, water
pollution, and noise pollution. For example, many citizens who are living in big cities in
China are suffering from air pollution and noise pollution. As a consequently, their heath of
people in these cities would be affected and they would be have many deadly disease.
Additionally, crime issue is another problem for people in metropolis. It can be seen that the
rates of dangerous crimes are getting higher and higher. Therefore, people who live in there have
to learn to protect themselves.
In conclusion, although there are many good aspects to live in big cities but it could not deniable
the drawbacks of living in there.
Nowadays, large cities are becoming more and more inhabited. The majority of the
population prefer living in a big town mainly because of the great advantages it has compared to
living in the countryside. However, what are the benefits of this situation, and what are the
drawbacks? In this essay, I will explore the pros and cons of living in a large city and try to draw
some conclusions.
Let’s start looking at the advantages. One of the main positives of a big town is the large amount
of shops available in every corner of the city. What I mean by this is that whenever you live,
there are some useful stores like supermarkets, banks, tobacconists and clothing stores where you
can easily buy everything you need without going to the city center. Secondly, living in a big
town is a big challenge for evening parties. In London, for example, there are so many things to
do in the evenings like going to the cinema, to the pub or to the park during the summer period.
Turning to the other side of the argument, traffic could be one of the major disadvantages of
living in a big city. Many people take the car everyday and it has also been proved that the
majority of the families have at least two cars. This means that you have to deal with rush-hour
traffic on your way to work and on your way back. In addition, in a big town there is
consequently a lot of smog and this can really affect people’s health.
To sum up, living in a big city has great advantages but also some significant negatives. You have
to weigh up to the pros of enjoying evenings’ nights outside and the availability of many shops
and the cons of cope with smog and traffic issues. Personally, I believe that the benefits of
enjoying the city-life and the comfort of having shops at every corner, eventually overweigh the
negatives.
In recent years, there are an increasingly number of people tending to live in a big city.
However, this is a considerable issue because it is known as a dream of many people, but it is
also a nightmare of the others. In this essay, I will discuss some of reasons why living in the
large city is popular, and what drawbacks do people face to ?
I will start by looking at advantages of living in a large city is that this is the place of high living
standard. What I mean by people can feel satisfied in many aspects when living in a good
condition with modern facilities and social services such as: health care, education, especially
entertainment. There are various kinds of entertainment, including tourism attractions, shopping
centers, cinemas, and so on. All of them can make people feeling of comfortableness and
relaxation.
Secondly, when being in a large city, people often have opportunities to build and develop their
career and business. Take my sister as an example. She has just moved her fashion shop to
Pleiku city, and her income is very high because of having a large of customers, whereas it was a
few month ago that her fashion shop experienced a slump in her hometown. This is because the
cost of living is lower in rural areas than in urban. In addition, big cities attracts domestic and
international investors, which provides good jobs with high income and chances to promote.
Turning to the other side of argument, polluted environment is a major problem, especially air
and noise pollution. In big cities, not only high population density but also the heavy traffic are
the reasons cause increase in emission and noisiness . This leads to environmental pollution and
in some cases seriously affects people’s health.
Another issue is that big-city life is often lack of safety. In other words, big cities tend to have
higher rates of crime due to poverty and density ; therefore, it is really hard to control crimes and
social evils in a complex society such. Moreover, that the quality of road infrastructure is low
can cause the serious traffic accidents and threaten to people’s life. Besides, traffic jams at peak
hours and flood after heavy rain are no longer closed to the most of big cities.
All things considered, not only in a big city but also anywhere we live in, there are both positives
and negatives. While the large city is the place where many people want to came to seek out their
fortune , the others ignore this choice because of its complicated issues. In my opinion, when
living in anywhere , it is really necessary to learn how to adapt our living environment, use of the
benefits and avoid the drawbacks of big-city life.
