Types of Chemical Reactions Background: There are many different categories of chemical reactions and several ways to tell if a chemical reaction is occurring between two or more substances. In this experiment you will combine chemicals in different ways and identify the combinations in which a chemical reaction occurs. For the combinations that produce a chemical reaction you will write a balanced chemical equation and identify the type of reaction. Procedure: 1. Label a microplate as described below. 1. control A. control 2. Na2Cr2O7 B. Cu(NO3)2 3. NaOH C. Ni(NO3)2 4. Na2CO3 D. Pb(NO3)2 5. Na2SO4 E. Fe(NO3)3 6. Na2CrO4 F. AgNO3 7. NaCl G. Al(NO3)3 8. NaI 9. NaBr 10. H20 2. Add 3 drops of each chemical to the appropriate well. 3. Record your observations in a chart. Be specific. 4. Clean the microplate in the main sink only. It must be 100% clean and returned directly to Mr. Therrien. Calculations and Graphs: none Question: 1. For each of the combinations that showed evidence of a chemical reaction write a balanced chemical equation and identify the type of reaction.
