Republic of the Philippines DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION Western Visayas Region VI Division of Iloilo RUFINO G. PALABRICA SR. NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL SY 2021-2022 Pamasyar sa Uma: A Community-Based Initiative Promoting Hygiene, Sanitation, Mental and Personal Development Amidst the Pandemic Rationale In the past 6 years, Rufino G. Palabrica Sr. National High School has been comprehensively embracing the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in Schools (WinS) Program and was acknowledge as an outstanding implementer in the Schools Division of Iloilo. The school understands that the WinS Program is the key in ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment among Rufinian learners and to enable them to be in their best condition to participate and learn in school. Following the onset of the pandemic, the school identifies the WinS Program as vital service in minimizing the transmission of COVID-19. Existing health protocols and directives from the LGU and the National Government, on the other hand, provide a variety of problems. One of them is stakeholder, community, and, most importantly, learners’ participation. “Kung indi sanda ka adto dire sa eskwelahan, ang eskwelahan ang maadto kananda!” This has been our principle subsequently to the implementation of the New Normal scheme in education. And this principle gave birth to Pamasyar sa Uma, a community-based project initiated by the WinS Technical Working Group, in collaboration with the Gender and Development Program and the DIHON Teen Center, that promotes correct hygiene and sanitation practices as well as mental and personal development through health and development education. Pamasyar is a Hiligaynon term that means "to visit" or "to check," which perfectly describes the program's target: seeing how our learners have been doing in their communities throughout this pandemic. Moreover, Pamasyar sa Uma is a follow-up to our WaSH-saBarangay initiative, in which the school distributed school-made IEC Materials in the form of posters to act as WaSH corners in selected barangays around the Municipality of Dingle. Vision Every Rufinian learners exemplifies proper sanitation and hygiene practices in the community, as well as being well-informed, empowered, and responsible members of the society. Mission Every Rufinian learner should receive comprehensive health and personal development instruction in an adolescent-friendly setting. Objectives Ensure that learners have the necessary information and understanding of good hygiene and sanitation activities; Enable learners to acquire life-long good hygiene and sanitation habits through improving hygiene and sanitation practices among them; Encourage learners to participate in a personal development program that promotes gender mainstreaming, equality, equity, and empowerment; enlist the help of public and private partners to ensure the program's implementation and long-term sustainability.
