These days it would be argued that young students with flying colors should be the only
ones who have the opportunity to enter higher education. In my opinion, however, everyone
should be able to have access to tertiary education regardless of their ages or their bad
results at school.
On the one hand, there are a number of underlying reasons why some believe that
universities should focus on top students at a young age. The first reason is that learners
who are studious and hardworking, deserve to enter universities because these students
have already gained their knowledge and had outstanding performances in their high
schools. Another compelling reason is that universities are more essential to high-ranking
students at a young age. This is because universities are the places that offer in-depth
knowledge and practical skills to help those students to prepare for their future careers
compared to older ones who could acquire those skills and broaden their understanding
through their work.
On the other hand, I would argue that everyone, no matter how old they are or how bad their
academic marks were, is allowed to approach tertiary education. Firstly, older ones may
have the right to pursue tertiary education, which may be the things that they were able to do
when they were young. Additionally, elderly people often have a tendency to broaden their
horizons and keep up with the modern area so that they won’t fall behind. Secondly, I
believe that students’ results in high school can not provide sufficient information about their
potential. To be more specific, in high school, students are required to learn a wide range of
subjects, which leads to the fact that they may have a bad overall score, but their marks in
certain subjects that they’re into can be high. Therefore, those students should be allowed to
go to their favorite universities to enhance their skills and widen their in-depth knowledge.
For instance, my older brother performed badly in math making his average marks low, but
he has a knack for English, hence, after entering university, he is able to become a top
student.
In conclusion, although some people think that universities should only be approachable to
young people with the highest academic result, I personally believe that everyone should be
given the opportunity to enter university.
