Is There Life After Death? Conversation with Dr. Chris Drohan and Matt When coming into this discussion, I did not really know what to expect. I was not extremely excited about it because religion is not something I usually talk about or engage with. Once Dr. Drohan and Dr. Pereira started discussing topics amongst themselves, I was immediately drawn into the conversation. There were multiple phrases that were said that struck a chord in me and that I will definitely never forget. I do not know what I really identify with in regards to religion. All my life, I grew up going to a Christian Church every Sunday and Wednesday. Unless there was a serious reason to miss church, my family never did. As I grew up, I felt like that church’s beliefs and practices did not align with my own. I kept all of my questions and doubts to myself because it was frowned upon to discuss topics like that. To hear Dr. Pereira being open to having conversation with others, even if they identify with a different religion, is new to me. It almost felt like that is what I have been looking for my whole life. If I would have met someone who was open about discussing my questions and doubts, I think I would not be as confused or hardened against some ideas as I am now. Dr. Pereira said something that really stuck out to me. He said something along the lines that he does not see eternity in terms of time. Instead, eternity coincides with timelessness. That completely opened my eyes to the idea of eternity. That idea always terrified me; the thought of spending forever in one place overwhelmed me and deterred me from fully committing to Christianity. He put the term and belief of eternity so beautifully. One should think about it as spending time with the people you adore and doing something that ignites one’s soul. The best way he put it is when he said, “Think of it when time stops.” I honestly was blown away by that because no one has ever explained the sweetness of eternity in Heaven as well as Dr. Pereira did.
