Overpopulation What is it? • Overpopulation is an undesirable condition where the number of existing human population exceeds the carrying capacity of Earth. What causes it? • Population growth results from the difference between births and deaths the two visualizations below show how these two aspects have changed since 1950. When it turned up? • Overpopulation has been rising continuously since the end of the Black Death, around the year 1350. • 200 years ago there were less than one billion humans living on earth. • Today, according to UN calculations there are over 7 billion of us. • For thousands of years, the population grew only slowly but in recent centuries, it has jumped dramatically. • Between 1900 and 2000, the increase in world population was three times greater than during the entire previous history of humanity an increase from 1.5 to 6.1 billion in just 100 years. Present situation: 7 billion people on earth $2 $ 40 $ 80 How much do those 7 billion consume? (in units of fossile energy) ▀ █ ▀ █ █ █ █ █ █ █ $2 $ 40 $ 80 █ █ █ How can we avoid it , solutions • • • • • Guarantee education through secondary school for all, especially girls One-child legislation Promote family planning, making birth control products more available Integrate lessons on population, environment into school Spreading Awareness About Overpopulation Why overpopulation is dangerous? • • • • • • • • Loss of Fresh Water Lower Life Expectancy in the Fastest Growing Countries Depletion of Natural Resources Less Freedom, More Restrictions Increased Habitat Loss Increased Global Warming and Climate Change More Intensive Farming Practices Elevated Crime Rate Dilapidation What causes it? • Environmental factor 1. Tsunami 2. Landslide 3. Earthquake 4. Flood What causes it? • Not well built For example the basement was not built strong enough What causes it? • Because of people 1. Not use properly 2. Not renewed 3. The facility management doesn’t care about the house Thank you for your attention • I use this sites to my presentation: • Our world in data • Everything connects
