Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? College or University should offer students more preparation before they start working. It is argued by many that the sole purpose of college education is to equip students with enough academic knowledge so that they can cope with their future jobs. However, I see things differently. Besides some academic insights, college education should also offer students other preparations. Admittedly, one of the most important functions of college education is to offer higher education which enables students to find a suitable place in the future job market. In fact, when it comes to job-hunting, specialized skills can play a critical role. Take my cousin who majors in computer engineering for example. His college was well-known for its computer engineering department and offered him a very strong competitive edge when he tried to find a job after graduation. With the academic background provided by his college, he now has become a superintendent in HP, a world renowned computer manufacture. His experience definitely explains the utilitarian aspect of college education. Nevertheless, the value of college education should not always depend on only instrumental purposes such as better employment opportunities or higher salaries. Desirable college education should also include some other essential aspects. First of all, college education should also grant students a sense of culture. Since the process of globalization has become irreversible, it is extremely likely that students will deal with people from a variety of cultural background. Without a sense of culture, students may fail to communicate as world citizens because of the confinement of their cultural scope. The story of my sister Tina may partially explain why this is crucial. Unlike many girls who always want to work near their parental house, Tina chose to work in Africa after graduation. Tina used to believe that with her specialty in telecommunication, she could easily be adapted to the life in Nigeria where experts like her were badly needed. However, she returned only 3 month after her confident departure, saying that she could not understand the life there: the rhythm of life, attitude of people, daily rituals and religious beliefs made her so confused that she felt unable to communicate with others. If the college education my sister had prepared her for such cultural encounters, she would definitely not have felt at loss. Another equally importantpreparation a college can offer is a spirit of teamwork. Accustomed to a world full of competition for a long time, students may sometimes forget about how to work with others. Then, cultivation of cooperation should be integrated into the college education system. The benefits of such integration can be demonstrated by my uncle’s story. My Uncle Johnson’s college emphasized the importance of cooperation and encouraged students to participate all kinds of clubs and teams where students need to work together. Johnson’s experience as the captain of soccer team and a pianist in the Jazz ensemble in college turns out to be extremely critical for his future job as a manager in a designing company where cooperation and coordination is of utmost importance. I concede that the main offer of college should be academic study, yet colleges or universities do have responsibility to offer other preparations so that students can adjust to the society with facility. 综合写作:(注意考试时还需要根据阅读 和听力材料适当补充) The reading passage tries to explain why MIMA mound was formedwhile the professor in the listening material disagrees with these explanations. The first reason provided by reading passage is thatMIMA mound was constructed by native Americans because evidence shows that similar structures had been built by them. On the contrary, the professor argues thatno indication of human activity has been detected in that area and thus it MIMA mound cannot prove to be built by Native Americans Also, the passage says that MIMA mound may formed during earth quake because of the softness of the soil while the professor contradicts and argues that no other places where earthquake occurred structures and thus have similar such an explanation is not convincing. Third reason given by passage is that the mound was actually created by a type of mouse; the professor, on the other hand believes that nobody has ever found such mouse in that area. Thus, the professor cast doubt on all the three points provided in the passage.
