How proven skill and experience solve extraordinary problems
No fishing job is ordinary. Rely on EFRS to get your project back on track.
Get out of trouble quickly,
safely, economically
Solve your toughest fishing problems with proven solutions
Oilfield fishing operations take a certain kind of skill and experience that downhole drilling
and completion operations performed “by the book” don’t require. That’s why you need the
specialized skills of downhole fishing experts to get you out of trouble.
No fishing job is ordinary. And, they rarely have off-the-shelf solutions. To get your project back
on track, you want experts with proven skill and experience—and the ability to innovate from a
foundation of success. More than any other kind of drilling and completion operation, fishing is
an art, and it requires creative thinking and skillful use of the expert’s tools.
We are the experts you want. Energy Fishing and Rental Services (EFRS) has unsurpassed
experience and success innovating and performing fishing operations in nearly every kind
of formation and well, onshore and offshore. Our experience in a wide variety of challenging
fishing operations has a valuable benefit to you: we know what works.
A history of solving tough problems
These examples illustrate only of few of the many ways your peers have escaped trouble by calling on EFRS.
EFRS Custom Shoe Design Cuts Retrieval Time From Weeks to Hours
Problem: A competing fishing services provider spent more than two
weeks washing over drill collars for a large independent operator. The
provider also failed to make preparations to wash over the motor. After
this provider ran two shoes to wash over the stabilizer on the top of
the motor, without success, the operator called EFRS.
Solution: EFRS used drawings of the motor and components to design
a custom shoe to cut over the stabilizer. Because threads on the
wash pipe were not interchangeable with EFRS tools, we instructed
a competitor on how to build the shoe. The competitor’s fishing tool
expert said it would not work. After consulting with EFRS experts, the
operator decided to build and run the shoe.
Results: The operator asked EFRS to place a supervisor on location
to oversee running the shoe. The custom, EFRS-designed shoe
cut over the top stabilizer in four hours and the bottom stabilizer
in two hours. The fish was recovered on the next run, and drilling
operations resumed.
Coiled-Tubing Obstruction Offshore
Removed in 72 Hours Dock-to-Dock
Problem: For an offshore well abandonment job, an obstruction in the
tubing prevented the P&A company contracted by the operator from
getting down to spot cement with coil tubing. After using their own
thru-tubing fishing group for one week, the P&A company replaced
them with a large service company. Neither was successful.

Solution: After three weeks, the operator contacted EFRS. The EFRS
team, along with the operator’s rep, worked up a go-forward plan to
perform the job in three trips. The first trip took two hours on bottom,
and the second trip took one hour on bottom.
Results: The third trip took eight hours, and finished in hole to desired
depth, with no other obstructions. The job was successfully completed
in less than 72 hours from leaving the dock to returning to dock.
Parted and Collapsed Coiled Tubing Removed in Mexico Well
Problem: A complex fishing challenge was created by 1½-in. coiled
tubing that had parted and collapsed inside of 3½-in. production tubing
in a Mexico land well.
Solution: The operator brought in EFRS to review and analyze information
leading up to the incident. After reviewing all available information and
examining the sequence of events (pressure drops and increases, weight
gains and losses) EFRS determined that the 3½-in. tubing had collapsed
on the coil. When the tubing collapsed and parted, it then relaxed into
compression and parted the 1½-in. coil. With the drilling rig still over the
well the tubing was pulled from the well where it had collapsed and parted.
EFRS then swallowed the 3½-in. tubing and made an outside cut on both
the tubing and the coil. The collapsed pipe was then removed from the well.
Results: The 3½-in. tubing was then tied back to the surface and hung
off in the wellhead. The 1½-in. coil remaining below the cut was then
engaged with a special EFRS tool run on coil and removed. The job was
completed successfully and the well restore to normal operations.
