Imaging and Special Effects Individual In-Course Page 1 of 4 Image Special Effects ISE IN–COURSE ASSESSMENT (INDIVIDUAL PROJECT) 1.0 THE PROJECT OVERVIEW Project title Colour Image Processing The idea of the project is a research based assignment in which students will be required to explore the using of different algorithms and features as (texture, colors, shapes , ………) to be able to differentiate objects based on colors. 2.0 OBJECTIVES OF THIS PROJECT: Equip students with theoretical and practical knowledge about the different algorithms applied on image processing and pattern recognition to solve dedicated problem as identifying objects in a scenario based on the colors and appropriate selection of the color models. 3.0 LEARNING OUTCOMES: At the end of this project, the students should be able to: Explain the operation of a range of imaging and special effects techniques and software. Construct a software artefact that processes images to provide a solution within a given problem domain. Demonstrate the application of appropriate image processing algorithms in the implementation of a solution for a given problem Level 2 Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation 2022 Imaging and Special Effects 4.0 Individual In-Course Page 2 of 4 PROJECT REQUIREMENTS: The given assignment must satisfy the following requirements: Color based object detection Objects present in a scene may be identified by understanding various features such as size, shape, contours, color etc. Colors could fundamentally be an effective method to segment objects from the background. Several different color models have been proposed in literature to date. In this assignment, it is required to explore the existing literature on the color models to gain an understanding on how objects can be segmented using color information. A simple program should be written to implement the object detection via color space. Your goal is to be able to differentiate multiple objects within images using a color space of your choice. A sample illustration is shown below. Figure 1: Illustration of object segmentation via colors Level 2 Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation 2022 Imaging and Special Effects Individual In-Course Page 3 of 4 A supporting document is needed to reflect the knowledge gained from the literature review and the choice of the color space made to solve the given problem. The documentation should include the appropriate justification for the choice of the color models and other essential image processing operations performed to obtain the results. 5.0 PROJECT MEMBER: Individual work 6.0 DELIVERABLES: A documentation of studying the previous recommended techniques in using different techniques to segment objects based on color spaces. 7.0 DOCUMENTS: PROJECT REPORT As part of your assessment, you will have to submit the project report which include the followings: Table of contents Acknowledgement Section The objectives Problem domain (Analysis of the problem) Literature review of the previous studies. Description, discussion, and justification for the use of color space Critical comments and analysis Conclusion References Note: Total recommended number of words for documentation more than 2000 All references must be made using the APA Naming Convention.
