machines) in hazardous areas special installations and requirements are required for safe operation of the machine with electrical and mechanical equipment. With kind of explosion protection “p”, (= pressurization) an internal overpressure is created and maintained to operate machines in this explosive ambients called Ex zones. To achieve proper operation the cabinet of the machine itself should be sealed in a way that it is possible to create a small overpressure of at least 50Pa without using a large amount of pressurized air. In general an air generator with sufficient air supply has to be provided. The principle sequence of a safety device (basic mode of operation) for such an pressurizing system is described as followed: · During the pre-purging sequence the amount of airflow of the purge medium (inertgas e.g. instrument air) and overpressure are supervised. · If the minimum adjusted airflow passes the machine enclosure (measured in the outlet valve) and a minimum overpressure inside the machine enclosure has been established, the pre-purge sequence starts. If the adjusted minimum volume of air has been purged through the machine enclosure, the machine is ready to start. · If some faults appear in this stage, the control sequence is reset to the start point of the functional sequence. · The safety device should be combined with a main control system (PLC etc.) which prevents the start of the machine until the purging sequence has finished. · If the overpressure drops under the reference value an alarm signal is given and the switching off of the machine has to be handled according to EN 60079-14. Only for use in Ex Zone 2 and without explosive atmosphere, the restoration of the overpressure should take place within 24 hours or the machine has to be switched off. The Ex px pressurization system F-36*.** serves to create and maintain an overpressure in an Ex p machine enclosure to prevent the ingress of the ambient (potentially explosive) atmosphere, according to EN 60079-2. A built-in safety overpressure valve starts to opens at approx. 30 mbar overpressure in order to prevent the machine housing from being damaged The sea water proof, corrosion free stainless steel enclosure with splash water and sandstorm protected air outlet can be mounted on an existing EN flange connection of the enclosure in angle steps of 45 degrees with a standard gasket sheet in between. Mounting of the valve is only allowed in upright or horizontal position. The built-in orifice is adjustable even during valve operation and has an easily accessible measuring service point in order to check the volume flow through the outlet valve with suitable measuring devices, even during operation. Orifice diameter adjustment: · Remove the cube-shaped cover by unscrewing the four hat nuts on its top. · Unscrew the black adjustment lever from its storage bolt. · Snap the lever on the black hexagon adjustment screw. · Turn the lever according to the printed scale to a higher number for a smaller orifice diameter or to a lower number to increase the orifice diameter (do not turn below 1). · The volume flow diagram printed on the side may help to estimate the adjusted airflow. · Screw the lever on its storage bolt again, so the new orifice size is fixed. Put the cover of the valve on its top and fix with the four nuts again. For this purpose, it has all the facilities and sensors needed to monitor the necessary prepurging sequence and to monitor and maintain an minimum overpressure within the Exp enclosure (machine cabinet). 1 Structure The controlling system consists mainly of two components which needs to be installed separately: · · controlling cabinet ST-***, with built-in piping ,valves, electronic and the outlet valve VA-***. The controller F-351.P* itself monitors and regulates the overpressure in the enclosure, while the digital/proportional valves doses the air quantity needed to achieve the pressurized apparatus. 2 General Functional Description After a self-test and start-up, the controller F-351 in the control cabinet ST-*** monitors the flow rate of the compressed air or inert gas during the initial purging process, and then monitors and regulates the internal pressure of the Ex-p enclosure with regards to the surrounding atmosphere during normal operation. To initiate the pre-purging sequence it is essential that even the pressure in the second supervised chamber of the machine is at least over the adjusted setting of the additional Ex i sensor. b. If this internal pressure is not sufficiently the message "waiting for external release" appears on the LCD of the control unit F-351. After successful purging the pressure of this second chamber is continuously monitored by this additional sensor. For safe operation the pressure must be in each case > set value of the additional sensor. c. If the pressure in the second Ex p chamber is permanently below the set value of the external sensor, the message "external monitoring Error" appears with a delay time of 10 sec on the LCD of the control unit and at the same time the operation authorization for the Ex px machine expires (machine stop condition). d. If the pressure in the second chamber is back to normal conditions ( p > adjusted setting), the release for safe operation will be immediately granted again. There will be no new purging sequence initiated unless the pressure in the main chamber of the machine is still above the minimum pressure. (Ps: a new purging operation is initiated only when the pressure p in the main chamber of the machine falls below the set value). e. The pressure conditions in the main chamber have priority, i.e. a pressure drop in the main chamber leads in each case to an expiration of the authorization for safe operation (machine stop condition) and with sufficient air supply to a new prepurging sequence.
