I've been working with DHL for 8 months, and it's been a really tough and rough 8 months. I've had great experiences with the company. I was given the chance to work for them. I want to express my gratitude for it. Together with my coworkers and managers, I've had a lot of fun. DHL is a part of the German logistics corporation Deutsche Post and offers courier, package delivery, and rapid mail services. The business sends out more than 1.6 billion packages annually. DHL is the main courier and package service in Europe. Introduction When I entered the workforce, I had the excellent opportunity to put all of my academic knowledge to use. DHL offers a highly healthy work and learning environment, and the company's open-door approach motivates staff to produce their best work. As a result of having access to so much collected data, I had a great experience working as a Desktop support engineer. Meeting with staff from other departments also enhanced my social and intellectual experiences. During my time with the organisation,I was in charge of logging tickets and helping customers with their issues. Several analytical demands from clients and other departments also had to be met by me. I was also in charge of logging tickets and assisting clients with their problems. Main task ● Ordering laptops, monitors, and docking stations for the new hires as well as DGF, or DHL Forwarding (freight transportation service), which operates a ground-based freight network serving traffic in Europe, Russia, and the Middle East and transports goods by rail, road, air, and sea under the DHL brand. Additionally, the extra computers serve as a buffer stock. I help by bringing in and setting up the products as they are delivered for the users. ● Kept a ticket to record customer demands. ● Install the DHL system on new laptops and install any essential programs before handing them out to new hires. I had to deal with a customer who wanted to unlock their myView account. Problem Analysis The five problems I had to deal with were setting up accounts for the new users, setting up laptops for the new users, unlocking myView accounts for users, Access to Microlise and discarding hard drives. Setting up new users accounts I had to deal with adding a new user to the system. The new user’s department manager sends me an excel sheet with the new user's information. I go to the DPDHL Request IT Portal website and create a user with the information I have from the excel file. Request IT is a self-service site for DPDHL users who want to find out more about services or ask questions about them. It simplifies service requests and streamlines service delivery and management. ➤ Example of DPDHL Request IT Portal I have to wait an hour after setting up the user on Request IT for the user account to appear in Active Directory Users and Computers and for Request IT to send a password. ADUC (Active Directory Users and Computers) is a snap-in for the Microsoft Management Console that allows you to manage Active Directory users and computers (AD). Objects (people, computers), Organisational Units (OUs), and their properties can all be managed. ➤ Example of Active Directory Users and Computers When the account is in ADUC, I need to discover another account with the same job description as the user so that I can copy its attributes, such as which folder he belongs to and which group he belongs to. I review the spreadsheet to see if he has any further criteria for his account once I find someone to duplicate and complete the account setup on AUDC. If he needs DCTS, I must log into Citrix Workspace and activate the virtual machine. Citrix Workspace is a service that allows users to access applications and files from a variety of sources via a single application or a Web browser. DCTS is a virtualized application provided by Citrix Workspace for users and truck drivers. Once everything is complete, I check if the user's account is working and I send the password and its username to the user’s department manager. I was given the task of transferring Active Directory users to the Shared Mailbox folder. Setup laptops for new users Now it's time to set the laptop. I set up the applications by connecting the DBox which is an external hard drive to the laptop that will be given to the employees. When the laptop is switched I keep clicking on the ESC button multiple times so the Boot Menu Setup appears below the HP logo on the left-hand corner . ➤ Example of Startup Menu I click on the Boot Menu option. Then, I enter the BIOS password and once I’m in, The DBox brand has to be shown. Once it's shown, I click on the DBox and I am led to a page to set up the computer and its details like what’s the computer name. Next page was if you want to have the Windows 10 image for the laptop. I said yes. After that, I had to wait 1 -2 hours for the laptop to finish installing Windows 10 and the contents in the DBox. Once the installation was done, I had to log in as an admin and download what was needed for the user. The user needed Office apps such as Outlook, ZScaler, Skype, IGO, Velocity and Amazon Corretto. ➤ Example of ZScaler Zscaler is a cloud-based information security firm that offers antivirus, vulnerability management, and granular user activity control in Web, email, and mobile environments. After the installation of the applications, I restart the laptop and log in as the user. (The user log in details was created when we set the user through IT Request (as I explained in the last report)). Then, I go to Google chrome and google the website to get its user certificate. Once that's done, I look up the computer name in Active Directory and write more details in the description. I also have to upload the laptop to Asset Management. I give the user its laptop and it can start working away. Unlocking myView accounts When a customer wanted to unlock their account on myView, I had to deal with it. MyView is a software programme that allows clients to view their payslips. To resolve the problem, I first created a ServiceNow ticket. I use an application called Zeillis to unlock their account. Zeillis is a programme that allows users to submit requests for issues that Zeillis can resolve. I opened a case for the account that was locked. They will respond to me and resolve the issue, as well as send a temporary password to the account's user. I also sent an email to the account's owner, informing them that Zeillis will provide them a temporary password. Access to Microlise A problem I had to deal with was giving a user access to Microlise. ➤ Example of Microlise For fleet operators and product makers, Microlise provides actionable insights from linked assets. To give them access, the customer has to be in User Management. User Management gives users access to applications in the system. Before that, another user with the same job description as the customer needs to be found. Once the other user was found, on the User Management page there were so many applications. Select the ‘Microlise’ app. There are options to create a new account or duplicate the account. The account of the user was cloned into the other account of the customer with the same job description so it can have the same attributes and access as the other account that was already there. Now the customer has access to Microlise. Discard Hard Drives Another task I accomplished was to remove the hard drives and create a list of the hard drives being discarded, including the model and serial number. After that, I go to Access Management and update the device of the hard disc I'm getting rid of. Access Management is a programme that keeps track of all active and inactive devices. Experience gained I now know how to interact and communicate with people who exhibit a variety of behavioural styles. Additionally, I've learned how to use Active Directory, maintain and repair laptops, and system components. I've learnt to keep time, speak quietly, and preserve confidentiality in addition to changing the laptop, computer, and system unit's damaged parts. Maintenance A routine maintenance procedure performed on a piece of equipment to lower the likelihood that it may break down. To avoid an unanticipated breakdown, it is carried out while the equipment is still operational. ● The following is a list of the preventive maintenance procedures you can perform on your computer or computer gear. ● Replace outdated hard disks with fresh ones. ● Cleansing the hardware on your computer. ● The most recent hardware drivers are downloaded. ● Updating your computer's software with the most recent updates. ● Ensuring that the antivirus protection on your computer is up to date. ● Using disk programs, such as Defrag and Scan Disk, on your hard drive. ● deleting unused software or data from a computer. The training's use of written and spoken communication techniques has helped me communicate more effectively. Organisational behaviour controls how managers and employees act in workplaces. Despite the fact that many businesses have regulations that must be followed, it's crucial to keep in mind that one's attitude and behaviour come first. As a result of this training, my understanding of organisational behaviour has improved. Networking Whenever the internet is down, me and my colleague would go to the comms room to see the problem. The comms room is a room full of switches and cables connected to each room. I learned how to tell the physical difference of which cable to use and how to tell what room they are connected to. If you didnt what they were connected to, there was a website that tells what number port is the room connected to and you can see if it was diasbled or active. Technical Skills Since I used to work in an environment where everyone had certain tasks to perform, I gained job experience. I gained expertise installing, maintaining, and fixing Windows on desktops, laptops, and printers. Problem Solving To solve problems, one needs to be able to think intellectually. From the first day of training to the last day, a few training sessions incorporated problem solving, which necessitates the ability to cognitively assess and identify a solution. Relevance of internship Consequently, it created a relationship between the student and the company that acts as a launchpad for the student to land a job on their own. The intern was made aware of the range of employment possibilities. It allowed the intern to apply what he had learned in the classroom to his work, increasing his effectiveness and efficiency and improving his ability to operate in the fields. By emphasising learning new facts about the selected path, the internship program provided the intern the freedom to be innovative in their career choice. Challenges The amount of time on the field was inadequate. Even though the intern periodically put in extra time to finish particular assignments, there was never enough time to do everything. After the deadline, academic supervisors were assigned. Academic supervisors are expected to visit each location and student at least three times each student, however I only had one visit, as per university requirements. Conclusion I have to say that the training I received at DHL was some of the greatest I've ever had for studying and working in the IT industry. I had the ability to network with many fantastic people with higher expertise in and outside of information and communications technology in addition to obtaining important skills. As a result, I am more aware of work ethics, requirements for my position, obligations, and opportunities. Students at TU Tallaght are dispatched on field trips with the main objective of giving them hands-on experience in environments where they would probably work after graduation.
