 environment: weather/climate, problems, nature,
animals,
 foreign countries: places of interest, culture, history,
travel,
 people/society: famous people, family, relationships,
emotions, adventures, everyday life
 sciences: discoveries/inventions, health/food,
agriculture/industry/economics
Test takers are expected to show that they can correctly
use:

articles [not complicated cases]

nouns: countable/uncountable; singular and plural;

pronouns: personal - subject and object; possessive
adjectives and possessive pronouns; indefinite
pronouns

quantity: quantifiers [some, any, a lot of, much,
many, [a] few, [a] little]; numbers; distributives [both,
all, half, every, each]; dates

adjectives/comparative structures
adverbs
verbs: tenses and ways of expressing future; the
passive; the imperative; the sequence of tenses;
‘have’ meaning something other than ‘possess’;
modal verbs; simple phrasal verbs, e.g. ‘go on’, the
infinitive, present and past participles
 prepositions and conjunctions/linking devices [e.g. so
