Therapeutic Use To relieve moderate to severe pain. Complications Elevated intracranial pressure, siezures, drowsiness, headcahes, insomnia, thrush, hyper/hypoglycemia. Contraindications/Precautions Children under 18 should not take this medication Increased risk for cdiff May worsen symptoms if diagnosed with myasthesia gravis. Hypersensitivity Interactions May increase risk of hypotension and sedation. Increase theophylline levels and risk of CNS toxicity. Medication Administration PO, IV, epidural, intrathecal. Nursing Interventions Assess for infection, vital signs, urine and stool, sputum, urinalysis. Watch for cloudy or foul smelling urine at the beggining of or throughout therapy. Client Education Evaluation of Medication Effectiveness Decrease in UTI signs and symptoms, negative urinanylsis, decreased WBC.
