General THE CENTER OF GRAVITY (CG) MUST ALWAYS BE WITHIN THE OPERATIONAL LIMITS, OR MANEUVERABILITY OF THE HELICOPTER CAN BE DECREASED. UNSAFE FLIGHT CONDITIONS THAT CAN CAUSE DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURIES CAN OCCUR. It is the pilot’s responsibility to make sure that each flight is accomplished within the limits of the Gross Weight CG Envelope given in the Flight Manual. If the helicopter CG is not within the certified limits (i.e., the Gross Weight CG Envelope), the helicopter will assume an unfavorable attitude. This reduces the cyclic control range and introduces high loads into the rotor system, which causes excessive wear of components. Because this condition can be dangerous and is undesirable, it is important to keep the helicopter’s operational CG within the Gross Weight CG Envelope. The leveling and weighing gives the data and procedures necessary to make sure that the helicopter is operated safely. It can be necessary to do these procedures after a configuration change and it can be required by the local aviation authorities. It consists of the subjects that follow: Leveling Weighing CG calculations Ballast adjustment 2. 2.1 Description Leveling The leveling gives the data and procedure to level the helicopter. 2.2 Weighing The weighing gives the data and procedure to weigh the helicopter. 2.3 CG calculations The CG calculations give the data and procedures to calculate the Empty Weight and the CG of the helicopter. It consists of the subjects that follow: Longitudinal CG Lateral CG Empty Weight Actual weight record examples 2.4 Ballast The ballast provides the data and procedures to calculate and install or remove the ballast necessary to adjust the CG of the helicopter. It consists of the subjects that follow: Necessary ballast Installation and removal of ballast plates End of data module https://www.bellhelicopter.net/tp/ietm/505/PMC-505-97499-02000-00/DMC-505-A-08-00-00-00A-018A-A(ietm-print-outlet:printing/505-maintenance-ma… 1/1
