SCHOOL BRIGADA PAGBASA PLAN
I.
Rationale:
Reading expands the mind. It helps to explore the beauty of the world and gives us more ideas around us. Through
learning how to read, it is a way that allows us to develop critical and creative thinking. Through hearing stories, children are
exposed to a wide range of words. This helps them build their own vocabulary and improve their understanding when they
listen, which is a vital as they start to read.
Pursuant to the Deped Memorandum No. 053, s. 2020 on the Joint Implementing Guidelines for Brigada Eskwela,
Enclosure No. 2 on the Brigada Eskwela Mandated Partnership Activities and Stakeholders’ Engagement under the New
Normal, this office will intensify the implementation of the Brigada Pagbasa Program to improve the literacy of the Kinder Grade 6 learners. As an offshoot of Brigada Eskwela, World Vision Development Foundation in Partnerships Service
established the project called “BRIGADA PAGBASA, as a form of Brigada Eskwela experts, change makers, policymakers
and other stakeholders across all sectors from international and local agencies and organizations in the public and private
sectors to form collaborations to help all learners read and become functionally literate.
Basud Elementary School will help to implement the DepEd Region V program entitled Brigada Pagbasa with a
theme, “Bawat Batang Bikolano Bihasang Bumasa”. We are so thankful for all the sponsors and partners that helps to
make this program possible. To World Vision Philippines and Smart Foundation, our sincerest thanks for paving a way to
address literacy problem in Bicol region.
II.
Goals :
Reading Intervention provides learners with an opportunity to increase reading, writing, test taking, and study skills
at their instructional level. Each class is designed to meet the individual needs of students within a small group setting. The
pace of instruction is modified to allow for different rates of learning.
The general goal of this programs aims to improve the literacy of the Kinder – Grade 6 learners. And has specific
objectives as follows:
1. Improve the basic and functional literacy levels as defined by the Functional Literacy and Education Mass Media
Survey (FLEMMS) by the Philippine Statistics Office (PSA)
2. Increase the numbers of community volunteers who will join the Brigada Pagbasa Movement
3. Increase awareness and understanding on the importance of literacy as foundation to learning.
