Implementing EBP Into Current Nursing Practice Assignment Instructions
The Implementing EBP Into Current Nursing Practice Assignment provides students an opportunity to
utilize information and techniques gained throughout the course to complete a final critique and
evaluation of evidence-based practice in nursing. Students will utilize the literature review process to
critique nursing practice and provide supporting evidence in a summary of evidence-supported
recommended practice. Finally, students will complete an individual reflection to evaluate intentions
for implementing the EBP process in their future professional nursing practice.
Instructions:
Students will complete the assignment working in the same groups established for the Module C
assignment.
1. Select a Topic: As a group, identify a current nursing practice or issue to focus on for the
Implementing EBP Into Current Nursing Practice Assignment. This is your introductory portion of
this module assignment. Refer to the EBP Topic Selection Tips for guidance in identifying a
topic. If after reviewing the topic selection tips the group has further questions, please contact the
course facilitator for guidance.
a. Submit selected Evidence Based Practice (EBP) Topic for approval to the “EBP Topic
Selection” via the Assignment tab in Canvas by the deadline in the schedule.
b. Upon receipt of approval, the group may proceed to developing and submitting the PICOT
Question.
2. Develop a PICOT Question: Once the group has identified a topic of interest, the group will
develop the PICOT question. Utilizing the provided resources (Additional Resources), the group
will draft a PICOT (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcomes, and Time) question to explain
the components of the clinical practice issue.
a. Once the PICOT Question has been drafted, submit the question to the “PICOT Question
First Draft” via the Assignment tab in Canvas by the deadline in the schedule.
b. The Course Facilitator will respond with recommendations for edits and/or updates to the
PICOT Question.
c. The group will complete the edits and submit the updated PICOT question to the “PICOT
Question Final Draft” via the Assignment tab in Canvas for approval by the deadline listed
in the schedule.
d. Formatting:
i. Submit the PICOT question in a Word document with each component completed
along with a complete question.
e. Submission Guidelines: Only one person in a group will submit the PICOT question via
the assignment link. Please identify the group representative early on to prevent confusion
in assignment submissions.
f. Upon receipt of final approval from the course facilitator, the group may progress with the
assignment.
3. Gather the Evidence (EBP Grid): In order to gather the necessary evidence for the PICOT
question, each student in the group will locate and critically appraise at least one research-based
article using the template provided. Utilize appropriate literature review techniques to explore the
library database.
a. The article must only be a quantitative methodology. Refer to EBP Assignment Frequently
Asked Questions (Q#8).
b. Using the Evidence Based Practice Grid provided, analyze each article as a group.
c. A minimum of four articles must be presented in the Evidence Based Practice Grid.
d. The group’s Evidence Based Practice Grid must be included in the final submission.

Note: When providing the “Level of Evidence” students will utilize “Melnyk & FineoutOverholt’s Evidence Ranking Scale” provided in Module D required resources.
4. Summarize your Findings: After appraising research articles and completing the Evidence Based
Practice Grid, the group will write a summary. The summary of findings should include a
discussion of application of the findings to nursing practice and policies and procedures to be
developed, revised, or continued based on what was identified from the development of the PICOT
question and review of articles.
a. Review the Module D Implementing Evidence Based Practice into Current Nursing Practice
Assignment Grading Rubric for grading criteria.
b. Following headings should be included in the summary section of the submission:
i. Summary of Findings
 Here you will summarize the group’s findings including a discussion of the
strengths and weaknesses found in the articles reviewed.
ii. Application of Findings to Practice
 Here you will identify current nursing practice to be reviewed based on what
was learned from the review of articles. Explain recommendations to be
considered for improving the safety of the current nursing practice.
 You will also discuss policies and procedures to be developed, revised, or
continued based on what was identified from the development of the PICOT
question and review of articles.
5. Final Group Submission:
a. The final submission should include the following components:
i. Topic Introduction: Introduce the PICOT Question and current nursing practice of
interest (Instruction #1).
ii. PICOT question (PICOT question with all elements separated) (Instruction #2)
iii. Evidence Based Practice Grid (Instruction #3)
iv. Summary of Findings (instruction #4)
b. Formatting Guidelines:
v. The assignment should be submitted as a Word document following APA 7th Edition
Styling including a title page and reference page.
vi. Utilize Times New Roman, 12-point Font and double-spacing. A smaller than size 12 can
be used in evidence grid.
vii. This submission has no page limit.
viii. Headings should be used following APA 7th edition styling and leveling.
c.
Submission Guidelines: Only one person in a group will submit the group summary via
the assignment link. The group representative submitting the assignment should be the
same group member who submitted the PICOT question.
6. Individual Reflection: Students will complete the assignment by reflecting on the impact of the
evidence-based practice in their own approach to nursing.
a. Review the Module D Implementing Evidence-Based Practice Individual Reflection Grading
Rubric for grading criteria.
b. The individual reflection should include the following headings:
i. Introduction
 Introduce the topic of interest and its relevance to your own nursing practice
ii. Personal Reflection
 Discuss relevant examples of the information gained from the course and
completion of the evidence-based practice implementation assignment.
iii. Implementation into Practice

 Discuss how the information learned might be implemented into your own current
or future practices.
Formatting:
i. The assignment should be submitted as a Word document following APA 7th Edition
Styling including a title page.
ii. References are not required for this assignment. If references are used, they have
to be formatted according to APA 7th Edition Styling.
iii. Utilize Times New Roman, 12-point Font and double-spacing.
iv. Content should cover a minimum of one page and not exceed two pages (Content
page requirements do not include title page and references pages).
Submission Guidelines: Each student will submit the individual assessment via the
assignment link by the deadline listed in the course schedule.
