LESSON PROPER: Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity A. Preparatory Activity Good morning class. Before we start, may we all stand and pray. (Prayer) (Prayer) Ok class before you take your sit; please pick up the pieces of papers and trash. (Picking the trash inside the room) Good morning once again class. How are you today? Good morning too sir. We’re fine and well sir. Well, good then. Are there any absents today? None sir. Before we go to our lesson, let’s review our classroom standards. Classroom Standards; 1. Be kind, polite, respectful and courteous to others. 2. Cooperate actively in the class discussion. 3. Listen to the teacher and classmates, and follow directions. 4. Work hard and always do your best. 5. Raise your hand when you like to speak in the class, when leaving your seat or if you need to leave the classroom for a reason. B. Unlocking of Difficulties Now we are going to answer the following questions. Directions: Fill in the blank. The answer will be found in the cross word puzzle posted on the board. 1. The earth rotates on its________. 2. The earth tilted on its axis 23.5________. 3. The ________of the earth causes day and night. 4. It is ________in the places where the light of the sun does not fall. 5. The_______is the source of light on earth. 6. Places that receive the sunlight are experiencing_________. 7. The earth moves in a __________ direction or from _______ to ______. 8. One complete rotation of the earth is equivalent to 24 _______. Directions: Fill in the blank. The answer will be found in the cross word puzzle posted on the board. D. Presentation 1. The earth rotates on its axis. 2. The earth tilted on its axis 23.5 degrees. 3. The rotation of the earth causes day and night. 4. It is nighttime in the places where the light of the sun does not fall. 5. The sun is the source of light on earth. 6. Places that receive the sunlight are experiencing daytime. 7. The earth moves in a counterclockwise direction or from west to east. 8. One complete rotation of the earth is equivalent to 24 hours. For you to have a better understanding to our lesson. I prepared a video presentation about “what causes day and night?” But first, what are the guidelines in viewing a video presentation? 1. Be quiet and stay on your seat while watching the video. 2. Remember the important details shown in the video. 3. Be prepared to share your insights or understanding about the video presentation. (Play the video Presentation) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWkKSkl 3gkU (The pupils attentively watching the video presentation.) E. Discussion Follow up questions about the video clip presentation: 1. What is the video all about? The video is all about the rotation of the earth sir. 2. What are the girl and boy doing in the first part of the video? 3. Why do they need to wake up when it’s daylight? 4. What do you call to the earth’s representation? The girl and boy are sleeping at the first part of the video. They need to wake up during daylight to go to school and to play in the playground. The earth‘s representation called globe. 5. What is an axis? Axis is an imaginary line that runs through the pole of the earth. 6. What do you call to the movement of the earth on its axis? The movement of the earth on its axis is called rotation. 7. How long does it take for the earth to make one complete rotation? 8. What is the direction of the earth’s rotation? 9. What causes day and night? The earth makes one complete rotation within 24 hours or 1day. The direction of earth’s rotation counterclockwise or from west to east. is The rotation of the earth on its axis causes day and night. F. Integration We have here a globe and a flashlight. We need three volunteers to illustrate to us the following: 1. Show the correct direction on how the earth rotates on its axis. 2. Explain what causes day and night. 3. What makes day? 4. What makes night? The direction of the earth rotates in a counterclockwise direction or from west to east. We have day and night because of its rotation. When the sunlight/flashlight earth/globe, it’s daytime. strike the The opposite part of the earth/globe does not strike by the sunlight/flashlight experiencing nighttime. We need another three volunteers to illustrate to us the following: 1. Show us that the Philippines is now experiencing daytime. 2. When the Philippines experiencing night time? (The three volunteers showing that the earth is in the daytime and in the nighttime.) Refer to the globe the Philippines is in the nighttime. What will we do during nighttime? To sleep and rest sir. What is the right amount of sleeping hours do children need in order to be healthy? The right amount of sleeping hours that children need in order to be healthy is 8 to 10 hours. It is good to stay awake late at night? It’s not good sir. Why? Because stay awake late at night will damage our health, acquiring diseases. Why is sleeping in the right number of hours important? For us to be healthy and recharge our body, so that we have full energy on the next day. You can just imagine when the earth does not rotate. We are not having day and night sir. What if the Philippines experiencing only sunlight and does not having darkness? What if the Philippines experiencing only darkness and does not having sunlight? Only the other side of the earth experiencing sunlight and the other side is forever darkness. Maybe we do not fall asleep sir. Our temperature become hotter and hotter. Maybe we fall asleep most of our entire life, or there is no inhabitant on it. It’s too cold. So, we are thankful because God allowed the earth to rotate. For us to experience daytime and nighttime. G. Generalization What do you call to the movement of the earth on its axis? The movement of the earth on its axis is called rotation. What causes day and night? How many hours are there in one complete rotation of the earth? What is the direction of the earth’s rotation? The rotation of the earth on its axis causes day and night. There are 24 hours in one complete rotation of the earth. The direction of earth’s rotation counterclockwise or from west to east. is What do you call to the earth’s representation? The earth‘s representation called globe. What are the importance of having day and night? The importance of having day and night are for us to go to school, play and do our works during the day, and sleep, rest and relax during the night. IV. APPLICATION: Group yourselves into four. Choose a leader, secretary and reporter. The leader gets the materials for the activity. Read the standards for the simple science activity. 1. Work with the group cooperatively. 2. Listen and understand the directions of your leader. 3. Perform your group activity orderly. 4. Be ready to present your collaborative output. (Reading the standard for the simple science activity.) Begin doing the activity following the group standards. Finish in ten minutes, and present your output in less than 3 minutes. Be mindful of the rubrics presented. Rubrics in Assessing Group Performance in Simple Science Activity Directions: Assess your group performance in accomplishing the task provided. Descriptions 1. All member take part in the group activity. 2. Members agree and supports with each other. 3. Group members work on the assigned task. 4. Group members practice collaborative skills. 5. Group members perform well as a whole.
