Classification: Internal Use Compound BMAAPMA N,N-Bis[(3-methylaminoacryl)propyl]methylamine Structure Source Synthesis described below. N,N-Bis[3-(methylamino)propyl]methylamine Sigma-Aldrich Acryloyl chloride Sigma-Aldrich MEHQ Monomethyl ether hydroquinone Sigma-Aldrich UDMA Urethane dimethacrylate Esstech, Inc. MeCN Acetonitrile Sigma-Aldrich BMAAPMA OVERVIEW Alkyl acrylamides can be synthesized and used as acrylamide monomers by carrying out a reaction at room temperature by treating N,N -bis[3 (methylamino)propyl]methylamine (alkyl amine) with acetonitrile (MeCN) and acryloyl chloride to produce BMAAPMA (bisalkyl acrylamide). Monomethyl ether hydroquinone (MeHQ) is used as a polymerization stabilizer / inhibitor, which is typical in adhesive composites. The composition may also include a dental filler material. Typically are glass filler particles including silica materials, glass fillers, alkaline glass fillers, metal oxide and prepolymerized fillers. The composition of the adhesive may also include a solvent such as water, ethanol, acetone or a combination of those. Classification: Internal Use PREPARATION Acryloyl chloride and MeHQ are added in a flask with a magnetic stir bar, and dissolved in MeCN. The amine solution dissolved with MeCN is then added to the flask. The reaction mixture forms an insoluble solid layer, to be discarded, and an organic layer which contains BMAAPMA. Finally, the recovered material is used in the overall composition, which consists of 40% wt of BMAAPMA and 60% wt of UDMA. Classification: Internal Use Compound DMPA 2,2-Dimethoxy-2-phenylacetophenone DPIHFP diphenyliodonium hexafluorophosphate Structure Source Sigma-Aldrich Sigma-Aldrich Both DMPA and DPIHFP are used as photoinitiators in the photopolymerization of monomers. DMPA is used in initializing free-radical polymerization, commonly used in the preparation of acrylate polymers. It does not require the presence of amine as a co-initiator. DPIHFP is used as a cationic photoinitiator. Both of their properties make it attractive for use as a photoinitiator of dental composites.
