Here, the Heading signal is processed to provide a Digital Heading Display and two independently buffered NMEA 0183 outputs. The system is made up of the following units. GS720 NMEA Unit Drawing 21332-000 (FW4720) The GS720 NMEA Unit is designed to fit into a Yokogawa PT500 Autopilot Standard Frame. The two primary functions of the unit are to provide an independent heading to the Off Course Alarm (integrated within the Autopilot) and to provide back up Heading information in the event of a Master Gyro failure. Both of these outputs are in the form of NMEA 0183 serial data. Standard features also include: • Deviation Correction • Power recognition voltage free relay contacts • Integral Membrane Switch panel; IP67 rated • LCD Display with variable illumination for night viewing • Heading data fail alarms • Power requirement less than 5 Watts at 24vDC TCM1 Heading Sensor Drawing 21329-000 (FW4602) In most installations, Lilley & Gillie will be supplying the Magnetic Compass, to which the TCM1 Sensor is supplied fitted and aligned to the Magnetic Compass Heading. The TCM1 has a 1 metre cable with a 6 pole connector fitted which plugs directly into the GS503 socket. -1- GS503 Junction Box Drawing A4-313 (FW4603) This box is splash proof and will be supplied fitted onto the top shelf within the Binnacle. On installation, run the feed cable up through the base of the Binnacle, through the 20mm cable gland to the GS503 position. Terminate connections within the GS503, as shown on the connection diagram. -2- 0 0 0 2 3 3 1 2 2.5 90.0 78.0 CRS FW4720 24vDC 169 185.0 78.0 CRS DATE INITIALS GS503 NMEA O/PUT SERIAL No: NMEA O/PUT 12.0 0 0 0 2 3 3 1 2 0 0 0 2 3 3 1 2 GS720 TMC Operating Instructions Switch On Press the ON/OFF key once to switch the unit ON (on condition will be signalled to an external monitor by closure of a volt free normally open contact). Once installed and calibrated the display will show a four digit Magnetic Heading with readings to one tenth of a degree. If no sensor is detected, display will show “LO” and the TMC INPUT LED will be lit and the Alarm buzzer will sound. Press the ON/OFF key once more to turn unit off. Illumination Four levels of illumination are available to the operator. Each press of the ILLUM key will alter the red backlight intensity in steps as follows:Off – 1 – 2 – Maximum – Off. Deviation Pressing the DEV key during normal operation permits inspection of deviation status. “NONE” = Coil calibrated: no deviation, “DATA” = Coil calibrated: deviation table programmed, “RST” = reset; ie, un-calibrated. Calibration Press CAL key for 5 seconds to enter calibration menu. Note that CAL LED is turned on and will remain on for the duration of the calibration procedure. 1) “CAL” is displayed. The unit is auto-calibrating the sensor coil and “CAL” is displayed for the duration of the coil calibration. The unit will automatically proceed to the second item on menu once coil calibration has been completed. If “FAIL” appears in display window, no sensor coil has been detected. In this case, press CAL key to exit calibration mode. Check all sensor connections then re-try. 2) “XXX.X” is displayed. Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to align displayed heading with ships magnetic compass heading. Note that each individual press will adjust the displayed reading by 1.4°. A maximum change of +/- 180° can be applied at this stage. Press CAL key once to proceed to final item on menu. 3) “D000” is displayed. This is an instruction to steer 360° for the first of 12 headings in order to programme the Deviation Table. -3- 3) continued: With ship steady on 360° magnetic, (i.e., Compass heading corrected with the deviation figure obtained from the vessels’ latest Magnetic Compass Deviation Card), press DEV key to enter. Repeat with ship steady on Magnetic Heading 030°, then move to 060°, 090°, 120°, 150°, 180°, 210°, 240°, 270°, 300°, and 330°, pressing the DEV key when ship is steady on each heading. Display will always indicate the heading to steer. If a difference of more than 12.5° is registered between actual compass heading and perceived (sensed) compass heading, the entry will be rejected and the display will not move to the next 30° step. When all headings have been entered successfully the display will show “END”. Press CAL key to exit Calibration Mode and resume normal operation. Mistakes If a mistake is made during the Deviation Table Programming which requires a restart OR if a table already entered is to be Erased / Reprogrammed, then perform DEV table erase as follows:Enter calibration menu item 3. Press UP Arrow key for 5 seconds to erase table. “NONE” is displayed until UP key is released. Table is erased and normal operation is resumed. Reset to factory default settings In the event of complete confusion for any reason, compass headings and deviation table can be erased as follows. Whilst in normal operation mode; Press CAL and UP Arrow keys simultaneously for 5 seconds. “RST” will be displayed whilst both keys are depressed. When unit is reset the TMC DEFAULT LED will be lit. Unusual messages At switch on following the self test routine, but prior to any calibration, the unit may show the following fail message(s):1) “LO”. This indicates no signal from the compass coil; on front panel “Heading Data Fail Alarms” section, “TMC INPUT” LED lit and alarm buzzer sounds. 2) “TMC CPU” LED lit; indicates an internal fault. Disconnect power to unit, and then re-connect. If fault has not cleared (LED still lit), unit will have to be returned to supplier. 3) “TMC DEFAULT” LED lit. Magnetic sensor alignment cannot be read from internal memory. Coil calibration will be set to nominal value and deviation table data will be set to “NONE”. -4- Note that messages referred to and displayed on the LCD can be in a combination of upper and lower case characters. NMEA 0183 Output Two NMEA 0183 serial output ports are available from terminals on the rear of the unit. Outputs conform to the NMEA 0183 standard for the interfacing of Marine Electronic Devices Version 2.30. Data is transmitted in serial asynchronous form. The first bit is a start bit and is followed by data bits, least-significant-bit first as illustrated below. A “HDM” message can also be read. Power supply requirement is 24vDC. The unit has two 256*64 pixel OLED Graphic displays, 2 Touch switches for illumination control, 4 NMEA 0183 inputs and 1 NMEA 0183 output. A single Mode of operation is provided with the displays becoming active once magnetic heading data is input. The top display provides a moving “tape” display with markings at 1º increments whilst the lower display shows the equivalent magnetic heading as a digital reading. The P1920 Heading Data Display will accept and re-transmit valid IEC 61162-1: 2000 (NMEA 0183) messages with the following formatters; MWV, MWD, VLW, VHW, VBW, HDT, HDM, HDG, VTG, JLG (proprietary), GGA, XDR and MTW. LEDs, visible at the rear face of the unit, provide additional information for customer confidence and diagnostic purposes. The unit accepts and displays heading data from a valid IEC 61162-1: 2000 (NMEA 0183) “HDG” or “VHW” message. A “HDM” message; covered in earlier NMEA 0183 standards, can also be read. If all messages are input, the “HDG” message will always take precedence. The display has “illumination” up [∆] and down [∇] touch switches, which allow dimming to extinction. The indicator is splash-proof but is not waterproof. If switched off, the previous level of illumination is retained in “flash” memory. Refer to OPERATION section for full information. INSTALLATION The display can be readily fitted into a panel with a cut-out conforming to that shown on drawing 3347-A3-71, and secured in position using the two clamps provided, one at either side of the indicator casing. This necessitates access to the rear of the panel concerned in order to fit and tighten the securing clamps provided. Removal of the indicator for servicing etc. would also require such rear panel access. In the chosen fitted position, access to the two touch switches along the bottom of the heading data display fascia is necessary for illumination control. See drawing 3437-A3-10 for Installation (Outline) drawing of the P1920 Heading Data Display. See drawing 3347-A3-71 for Panel Cut-Out detail. © J. Lilley and Gillie Ltd. Ref: P1920/ds/ra/209 Issue 1 WALKER P1920 HEADING DATA DISPLAY Page 2 of 11 CABLING Cable connection into the heading data display is normally via free terminal blocks fitted to the terminals soldered directly onto the rear CPU board and which project through the rear panel of the instrument. When using screw terminal connections, a two core cable (0.5mm CSA) is required for connection of the 24vDC power supply. Two core (twisted pair) cable/s (0.5mm CSA) with overall screen is/are required for serial data connection. This cable specification applies both to the NMEA 0183 input from the talker/s concerned and the NMEA 0183 output “re-transmit facility” that is also available for use, if required. Input RJ45 and output RJ45 connectors are also available at the rear of the indicator. These would normally be used for “daisy chaining” additional, local, displays of the same generic type. Refer to drawing 3437-A3-11: Connection Diagram for the P1920 Heading Data Display. OPERATION Touch Keys There are two touch keys on the P1920. The keys operate by a charge transfer sensing method. A firm touch with a bare finger in the sensing area of the key is sufficient to actuate a key press. The UP key is positioned at the lower R.H corner of the display with the DOWN Key at the lower L.H corner; see photograph of display on next page. UP Key The UP key increases the OLED display brightness and the Blue Key backlight illumination. There are 12 levels of brightness from off to full brightness. Each key press increases the brightness by 1 level. DOWN Key The DOWN key decreases the OLED display brightness and the Blue Key backlight illumination. There are 12 levels of brightness from full brightness to off. Each key press decreases the brightness by 1 level. © J. Lilley and Gillie Ltd. FAULT FINDING: Check availability of 24vDC power to the unit. Any loss, or interruption, of input serial data will cause the associated displays to revert to show “dashes” as per the information provided in the “Display” sections. In the first instance, remove the P1920 indicator from the panel concerned and check all LEDs at the rear panel of the unit. Check “CPU OK” LED to ensure processor is running. Dependent upon status of “Valid” and “Data” LEDs, check all connected “Talkers” as appropriate. If the problem is found to be a loose input NMEA 0183 connection, re-connect the cable core/s concerned. Incoming serial data will be restored to the display and digital readings will recommence. If associated talkers are transmitting correct serial data and if connections at the talker/s and at the P1920 unit are satisfactory, then continuity of the serial data transmission cable, from the talker itself, must be checked. If the fault is found to be within the P1920 heading data display itself, the unit must be returned for investigation / repair. Either of the input voltages are accepted automatically without any need for additional setting-up procedures. The P1010 contains a switch mode power supply and protection circuitry that rectifies, filters, transforms, isolates and regulates the incoming mains AC in order to provide the two stabilized 24vDC outputs, which, in total, provide a 3A load capability. The unit also includes the capability to receive a 24vDC auxiliary power supply for use in the event of failure of the incoming 50 or 60Hz mains supply. Switching to the auxiliary supply is automatic upon failure of the mains AC supply. The unit will automatically switch back to use the mains AC supply once this is restored. The unit is fitted with three EMC glands; one to accept the incoming AC power cable and the other two to accept either the two outgoing 24vDC power cables or alternatively, one outgoing 24vDC equipment cable and one incoming 24vDC auxiliary supply cable. All cables are to be provided by shipyard. A primary earth stud is provided on the internal PCB assembly. A crimp terminal, attached, is for customer connection of the incoming “earth” conductor on the mains 3 core power cable. For two individual outgoing 24vDC supplies, two 2 core cables with overall screen are required. If the auxiliary 24vDC supply is required, a 2 core cable with overall screen will be used together with either a single, or twin, 2 core cable with overall screen for the required outgoing 24vDC supplies. An internal, factory fitted, “earth” strap connects between the lid of the unit and the primary earth stud. AC power MUST always be disconnected before the lid of the P1010 power supply unit is removed. 4 screws, one at each corner, hold the lid in position. INSTALLATION The P1010 is suitable for mounting on a vertical bulkhead or horizontal surface. The unit is splash-proof only and should be mounted internally in a suitable dry and well ventilated space. Suitable access to facilitate wiring is required. Four mounting feet; one at each corner of the unit, are fitted and provide holes suitable for M6 / M8 fixing screws; customer supply. See 3389-A3-7 for installation drawing of the P1010 Power Supply Unit. © J. Lilley and Gillie Ltd. Ref: P1010/ds/ra/159 Issue 2 WALKER P1010 POWER SUPPLY UNIT Page 2 of 5 CABLING A 3 core mains cable, maximum outside diameter 10mm and having minimum 0.5mm² / maximum 2.5mm² cores, is required for connecting to the ship’s AC power supply. Mains cable with the standard brown, blue and green/yellow cores is recommended for use and is to be provided by customer. Carefully remove the lid of the unit, remembering that the attached internal “earth” lead will limit its final position. Remove the grey 3 way free socket from the 3 way plug header attached to the printed circuit board at “J3”. The prepared “line” (brown) and “neutral” (blue) cores of this cable are to be connected to the appropriate terminals on this socket after feeding the cable through the gland concerned. From the primary earth stud, remove the M6 nut, shake-proof washer and the crimp tag. Securely crimp the tag to the prepared “earth” core (green/yellow) of the mains lead and reattach to the primary earth stud, locking securely in position using the previously removed nut and washer. It is recommended that in preparing the mains cable, a 150mm length of outer insulation be removed. This will allow the cable gland to securely clamp onto the outside diameter of the cable and readily allow for connection of the exposed cores down to the terminals and stud concerned on the printed circuit board below. It is recommended that a switched fuse-box; customer supply, local to the P1010, is wired into the incoming mains AC power supply to provide a ready means of turning the power supply unit on or off. Two, 2 core screened cables, maximum outside diameter 10mm and having minimum 0.5mm² / maximum 1.5mm² cores, are required for connecting from the 24vDC PSU terminals, “J2” and “J4”, to the other Walker equipment on the system concerned. Alternatively, if the auxiliary 24vDC supply, to “J1”, is required, a two core screened cable, as specified above, is used with a twin 2 core screened cable then being required to carry the two outgoing 24vDC supplies. It is recommended that the cables in question be prepared, using one of the methods shown below, so that a suitable length of screening is exposed for connecting to the body of the fitted EMC glands concerned. The exposed outer insulation of the internal cores must extend sufficiently further to allow for connection to the PCB terminals concerned. METHOD 1 METHOD 2 © J. Lilley and Gillie Ltd. Ref: P1010/ds/ra/159 Issue 2 WALKER P1010 POWER SUPPLY UNIT Page 3 of 5 CABLE PREPARATION Comment on dwg Comment on dwg CABLE FITTING Remove the appropriate orange 3 way free sockets from the orange 3 way plug headers concerned. “J2” and “J4” will be used if both 24vDC outputs and no auxiliary power supply is involved. Alternatively, “J1”, for the auxiliary power supply input and one or both of “J2” / “J4”, for the required 24vDC output/s, will be used, depending upon the installation concerned. The two prepared cores (red = 24v; black = 0v) must be connected to the appropriate terminals of the sockets concerned after feeding the cables through the glands, as shown above, and after first loosening the cable gland covers. The gland covers must finally be tightened to secure the “screening” and to clamp securely onto the outside diameter of the cables concerned. Note that the examples shown are for illustration only and do not show the correct number of cores applicable to this installation. Refer also to drawing 3389-A3-8 for connection options. Check all internal connections before re-fitting the lid. Ensure that the correct polarity, of the 24vDC outputs into other Walker equipment, and of the input 24vDC auxiliary supply, if used, are checked before the P1010 PSU is switched on. POWER MUST ONLY BE APPLIED TO THE P1010 AFTER THE LID OF THE UNIT IS RE-FITTED AFTER ALL CONNECTIONS HAVE BEEN MADE AND CHECKED. © J. Lilley and Gillie Ltd. If wanting to check these LEDs with power ON, OBSERVE LEDs ONLY; DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ACCESS THE INSIDE OF THE UNIT DUE TO THE HIGH VOLTAGES THAT ARE INVOLVED!) 5) If F2 (and F1 if used) fuse is satisfactory, check that all cable core terminal connections at J3, J2, J4 and J1 (if applicable) are secure and well made. Re-make any loose or broken connections as found necessary. 6) If still no apparent cause of failure is found, re-apply AC power to the P1010. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ACCESS THE INSIDE OF THE UNIT DUE TO THE HIGH VOLTAGES THAT ARE INVOLVED! Observe only, the green LED at the lower right hand section of the SMPS. If lit, the SMPS is operating satisfactorily. If unlit, the SMPS is defective or has an overload on the 24vDC outputs. To check if an overload has caused the internal SMPS of the P1010 to switch off perform the following. 7) Switch the P1010 OFF. Disconnect the connected equipment on the 24vDC outputs by removing the connectors from the J2 / J4 headers on the internal pcb and switch the P1010 back on. Again DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ACCESS THE INSIDE OF THE UNIT DUE TO THE HIGH VOLTAGES THAT ARE INVOLVED! Observe only, the green LED. A) If this is now lit the P1010 was previously inoperative because of an overload condition on the 24vDC outputs. The connected equipment therefore requires investigation as to the excess current being drawn. DO NOT RE-CONNECT TERMINALS TO THE J2 / J4 HEADERS UNTIL AFTER THE P1010 HAS BEEN SWITCHED OFF. © J. Lilley and Gillie Ltd. Ref: P1010/ds/ra/159 Issue 2 WALKER P1010 POWER SUPPLY UNIT Page 5 of 5 B) If the green LED remains unlit then the SMPS is defective and the P1010 unit has to be returned for repair.
