2.3.6) These societal needs were: Increasing awareness and knowledge amongst young people about violence, particularly gun violence. Providing the youth with a platform to serve as leaders, advocate and educate others in order to lower and stop violence, gun violence and crime as contribution to their communities. The community needed to lower crime rates. The youth of communities also need support in terms of knowledge, tools such as platforms and guidance for their careers (they need a better education system). 2.3.7) Children’s Radio Foundation (CRF) - their role is to provide support, capacity building, project management systems, and clear pathways for collateralized bond obligations, community radio stations included, to increase their impact on youth populations. Gun Free South Africa (GFSA) - working to reduce gun violence in South Africa through public policy advocacy, education, awareness and community mobilisation. The European Union - to fund the running of this project. National stakeholders - can include national, state and local government bodies, non-government organisations, and service providers working across regions or countries. 2.3.8) The radio broadcasts about violence, crime and community safety serve as a means of intervention for crime reduction and crime prevention, especially among the youth. The radio station discussions and guides can help to change the community and especially advocate for the entire initiative. Each of the radio stations also facilitate audience participation via SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook and call-ins. The youth reporters also serve as a contact point by going to schools and performing outreach activities. The CRF also has one-day career planning workshops to help the community and can act as a point to get help and increase knowledge on their future and careers which is critical for the youth. These contact points can allow for the opportunity for the youth to learn and grow from the support and knowledge. This will allow the youth in all communities to have the opportunity to act as advocates and help the community and change the lives of others in the community. 2.3.9) I think that this initiative would be effective in the long term because the more you educate the youth on reducing violence, crime prevention and community safety the more we will see a change in our communities because the youth are very vital as they are able to impact the change we are looking for in the community, they just need a voice to implement that change and be heard and more people will start recognizing what they are saying and more help will be give to them
