What am I learning today?
To Describe 6 sports leaders ( eg Captain, Manager, Coach, PE
Teacher, Personal Trainer, Expedition Leader, Role Model,
referee) by including 7 jobs that each leader has to do. What's
their job if you was going to tell me what they have to do.
Why am I learning it?
This will be the first part of your assignment and will help you to

Leaders have many different important
jobs in there role.
• For example, a sports coach needs to have
knowledge of the sport he is teaching. A sports
coach also needs to be a motivator so that they can
continue to motivate the athletes all the time.
• Another example of a leader is a captain. A captains
role is to manage his teams behaviour on and off the
pitch as well as motivating his team to strive for
success.

Having knowledge of the activity is key as it allows you to plan and execute
methods effectively and allows you to pinpoint the areas an athlete or team
need to improve and implement the necessary course of action is also an
essential part. If a player asks how to mark you need to know how to
demonstrate the skill in order to be an effective leader. If you can’t demonstrate
the skills yourself you will need to be able to use your knowledge to
demonstrate verbally or using another player.

Why are personal qualities needed for a sports leader?
Sports leaders require a handful of personal qualities. It is vital to
recognise that personal qualities like self-awareness, selfconfidence, self-control, self-knowledge, personal reflection,
resilience and determination are the foundation of how we behave.
Some of the key personal qualities of a sports leader
are; reliability, confidence, communication, punctuality,
creativity and any others you could think of.
