think BIG. But it's not enough to simply think big - we turn big ideas into reality. At Baker Oil Tools, we employ a variety of enabling technologies that allow us to actually build and qualify the innovations we conceive. Empowered by advanced software and hardware tools, our Open Hole Completions engineers are truly free thinkers. Design concepts that may have been rejected a decade ago as “unmanufacturable” are now commercial flagship products. These capabilities are integral to Baker Oil Tools' design, manufacturing, and operational core competencies. Engineering Design Advanced 3-D design software and Rapid Prototyping are invaluable at reducing the time from conception to first article. Project engineers and drafters can quickly validate dimensional compatibilities and gain a visual understanding of even the most complex parts. “Printing a hard copy” takes on a whole new meaning with Rapid Prototyping, a computerized system that allows us to create a plastic model. Design time is dramatically shortened since no metal parts need be prototyped until the design is finalized. When prototype parts have passed testing, conversion to machine drawings and CNC manufacturing instruction is efficient and accurate. Laboratory Facilities Before any tool is deemed commercial, Baker Oil Tools studies all critical operational and performance characteristics in controlled lab environments. For instance, how can the customer be certain that the elastomer compounds or metals specified in the bill of materials will satisfy the well requirements? Or, will this design that “looks great on paper” survive the severe thermal and pressure cycling that I expect in my well? At the Emmott Road and Navigation Boulevard facilities, Baker Oil Tools maintains modern metallurgical, elastomer, and prototype testing laboratories. Material sensitivity studies, confirmation of properties, and microscopic analyses are commonplace in the metal and elastomer labs. Full scale prototype tests allow proof of concept, establishment of performance ratings, and life cycle/durability testing. We even evaluate erosional resistance of many parts at our Emmott Road flow loop. 7 Baker Oil Tools CAPABILITIES State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Processes CNC Machining Centers Ask most machinists where their non-productive time is spent, and they'll tell you it's in setup time. Each machining process requires chucking up the part and adjusting its alignment before a single chip is cut. If a part has 20 steps on its routing, it may require 20 separate setups. Machining centers such as Mazak's Integrex™ permit a number of turning, boring, and milling operations to be performed on a part without repeated setups on different machines. Manufacturing efficiency and precision is greatly improved over conventional manufacturing operations. EDM Machining Many parts may be very complex geometrically, but cannot be simplified considering the design concept of the tool. Traditionally these parts require many milling operations, - which adds to manufacturing expenses. Electrical Discharge Machining uses a spark to remove metal, rather than mechanical cutting or grinding. Intricate parts that require accurate fitting with tight tolerances benefit from EDM machining. EDM allows engineers to select the best overall design rather than settling for the one that is most easily manufactured. Investment Casting Modern casting methods can result in both high manufacturing efficiency and consistent, high quality parts. Intelligent application of this technology permits repeatable manufacture of large volumes of common or complex items. Baker Oil Tools' Investment Casting Facility has proven itself to be a value-adding process, allowing many innovative concepts to be economically manufactured. We control every step in the casting process, ensuring complete product uniformity. Hot Extrusion Rubber Wrapping Baker Oil Tools manufactures the most rugged and dependable External Casing Packers available to the industry. Our state-ofthe-art Hot Extrusion Rubber Wrapping Machine continuously applies hot rubber directly from extrusion head to the rotating packer mandrel. Consistent control of elastomer properties ensures Progressive Inflation™ from one end of the ECP® to the other. These patented manufacturing and inflation processes are used on all Baker Oil Tools PAYZONE™, ISOZONE™, and XtremeZone® Packers, providing the most reliable annular barrier for your well . 8 Baker Oil Tools CAPABILITIES Technical and Service Support Critical Well Project Management Certain projects require project management beyond standard efforts. Examples would be remote operations with limited local operating company and/or service company infrastructure, high profile wells that must be completed within narrow time or cost windows, or high expense wells such as deepwater exploration. When justified, Baker Oil Tools can offer dedicated project management from conception through installation phases. Enhanced Quality Assurance at all levels is ensured with Critical Well Project Management. Applications Engineering Group The Applications Engineering (AEG) team is the central link between Baker Oil Tools' Field Service Locations, Open Hole Completions Engineering, and the Manufacturing facilities. This group is actively responsible for disseminating technical information and experience globally. Open Hole Completions AEG assists the regional sales teams with equipment specification, tender and document preparation, and new product launch into local markets. Troubleshooting and problem job resolution is another vital function performed by the AEG team. Quality Control As an ISO-certified manufacturer, Baker Oil Tools strictly follows a structured quality plan during all phases of development, testing, and manufacturing. According to the quality plan, documentation of raw materials is confirmed. Parts are carefully inspected at a number of logical points along the manufacturing router, to assure the quality of the final product meets both the customer's and our own strict standards. When you run a Baker Oil Tools' liner hanger or external casing packer into your well, you can be confident that it will satisfy your objectives. Don’t settle for anything less. Training Even the best tool designs, manufacturing, and quality benefit when employees are trained in the equipment's proper application and operation. The Baker Hughes Education Center, in conjunction with divisional product lines, provides effective training to field operations personnel, engineers, technical representatives, and managers. Formal, yet open classroom structure and curriculums promote beneficial exchange of regional best practices around the world. Dramatic improvements in service quality are a direct result of BHI's intense self-study and classroom training programs. 9 Baker Oil Tools FOCUS ON TECHNOLOGY FOCUS ON TECHNOLOGY Throughout this catalog, you'll find a number of novel technologies incorporated into our modern tool designs. Some have been developed in-house, while others are adapted from other industries. Baker Oil Tools recognizes that the application of technology is only worthwhile when tangible benefits result for the end user. A sampling of these practical advancements is included here. Composite Components On rigs with high spreadrates, the costs associated with drilling out a liner can sometimes exceed the capital costs of the liner hanger assembly and accessories. The industry clearly prefers equipment that enables faster drillout and won't damage expensive PDC bits. Baker Oil Tools offers a number of accessories such as landing collars, drillable packoffs, float valve assemblies, and liner wiper plugs that are constructed almost entirely from composite and elastomer materials. Operators have enthusiastically embraced this technology and specify it exclusively on many high-profile projects. Rupture Disk Initiation Most hydraulic tools rely on brass shear screws to resist motion until the required pressure is reached. But fatigue, inconsistency, and thermal effects can alter the pressure at which shear screws allow a tool to actuate. Precision rupture disks provide much more stable and consistent actuation pressure in wellbore environments, eliminating much of the uncertainty caused by shear screw variation. Baker Oil Tools includes rupture disks in many of its modern liner equipment and ECP® designs. Progressive Inflation™/Irregular Boreholes Irregular hole shapes and sizes can make it difficult to achieve a long-term 100% annular seal. In some specific applications, zonal isolation is required, yet local experience indicates that enlarged oval hole can be expected throughout the setting interval. If standard ECPs are used, mechanical failure may occur near the ends of the inflatable element. Several years spent studying material properties and design concepts have paid off with the development of Baker Oil Tools' XTremeZone® Packer. The XTremeZone® is the only ECP® in the industry to pass a stringent “oval borehole” testing program conducted by a consortium of Norwegian operators. Test engineers described the XTremeZone’s performance as “amazing” when it successfully withstood the maximum pressure limits of the group’s oval test fixture. 10 FOCUS ON TECHNOLOGY Baker Oil Tools FLEX-LOCK® Slips As liner loads increase, conventional wisdom says to add more slips and cones to the hanger. But eventually the hanger becomes too long, slips become hard to control and bypass quality suffers. If the hanger is overloaded, the ID of the body may collapse inward and will no longer drift. FLEX-LOCK® slip and seat design alleviates these shortcomings by eliminating cones from the hanger completely. As the slips accept loading, they transfer the load to the slip seat circumferentially and greatly reduce the stresses on the hanger body as well as the parent casing. Bypass area is equal in the set and unset positions. The slips are very well protected within the OD of the slip seat while running in. FLEX-LOCK® slips will accept very high axial loading, and the concept is incorporated into many of Baker Oil Tools' heavy-duty hanger designs such as the SDD™ and the INLine™ Hanger/Packer. Slip System and Casing Stress Cone Style Hanger FLEX-LOCK® Hanger Applications/Operations Software There's no question that experience is critical toward maintaining the highest level of service quality. When experience is combined with sophisticated, user-friendly computer modeling, a step change in performance and operational efficiency is the result. Baker Oil Tools has developed a number of accurate predictive software tools which aid in specifying optimal equipment and installation procedures at the wellsite. Our Liner Hanger Workbook predicts the combined effects of mechanical and pressure-induced forces on the hanger/packer assembly, as well as many other operational parameters like fluid displacement volumes, burst and collapse values, and slackoff requirements. Baker Hughes' Advantage program calculates downhole torque and drag conditions - critical information when running liners in highly deviated wellbores. The sophisticated BOTSurge™ model allows direct comparison of the hydraulic surge characteristics of open- or closed-ended liner assemblies while running in the hole. These programs, and others like them, are available to all Baker Oil Tools field operations and applications engineers to ensure flawless execution in your well. Metallurgy/Material Compliance The API recently updated its document “Recommended Practices, Section 5CT (Rev. 7) by including “tubular accessories”, which includes liner hanger and ECP® products. Baker Oil Tools has been a pioneer in this effort by establishing direct relationships with steel vendors and mills. Through this enhanced interaction, we are now able to specify and purchase raw tube stock in suitable geometries for manufacturing equipment which satisfies API RP 5CT chemical and physical properties. 11 Baker Oil Tools FOCUS ON TECHNOLOGY Expandable Metal Components Today's oilfield is showing increasing interest in the use of expandable technologies to enhance wellbore construction. Baker Oil Tools has been a leader in the development of expandable metal components for well over a decade. Sophisticated modeling software allows design engineers to predict with great accuracy how metal parts will deform when subjected to stresses. These components must be made with metals of tightly controlled chemical and physical properties. Logical utilization of this technology can be put to beneficial and practical use, as in the designs illustrated below. Extrudable Ball Seat Most hydraulically actuated devices require differential pressure to operate. The most common way of achieving differential pressure is to drop a setting ball to a landing seat and then apply pressure down the running string. After the devices have been actuated, the flow path must be restored to allow cementing operations. Baker Oil Tools has devised an ingeniously simple and reliable seat which will yield at a specified pressure and pass the setting ball through, and later pass cementing pump down plugs without interference. This type of seat is incorporated into many of today's liner running systems. ZX™ Seal Element Packer seal element technology remained substantially unchanged until Baker Oil Tools introduced the revolutionary ZX™ seal more than a decade ago. And today, the design is still considered the ultimate liner packer seal concept. The ZX™ seal is expanded to conform to the wellbore casing creating a sturdy, energized hydraulic barrier that is permanently impervious to elastomer extrusion. The seal is constructed from a steel chassis, to which a rugged outer elastomer sheath is bonded. The design eliminates the potential for swabbing the element off at high circulation rates and reduces mechanical damage while running into the hole. Insert Seal Unit Baker Oil Tools' versatile Insert Float Equipment also benefits from expandable metal technology. Conventional float equipment, landing collars, and other accessories are typically installed into collar bodies by threading them directly, or by a locking ring design for premium liner connections. In certain applications, these collar bodies can add considerable expense with high-tech threading and exotic metallurgies. The popular Insert Seal Unit allows a variety of accessories to be installed directly into the customer's casing at the wellsite. Anchoring and sealing are effectively accomplished using expandable technology and an easily-transportable installation device. 12 Baker Oil Tools APPLICATIONS APPLICATIONS CASE HISTORIES PREMIUM CEMENTED LINER COMPLETION This premium liner hookup incorporates many modern innovative features, ensuring reliable operation and service in many of today’s most demanding openhole completions. The liner is run on a Hydraulic Release Setting Tool, which allows the liner to be pushed, pulled, and rotated as required to work the string to bottom. The hydraulic-set, rotating liner hanger requires no pipe rotation to set, supports very heavy loads, and allows rotation of the liner during cementing operations for an improved cement job. The RS™ Pack-Off System provides a reliable twoway seal between the setting tool string and the liner top, while reducing upward piston forces even at very high pressures. The revolutionary ZXP™ Liner Packer includes the most rugged packing element in the industry, resists swaboff at high circulation rates, and ensures a life-ofwell, high performance seal at the liner top. The liner may be run in the hole at much higher speeds, greatly reducing rig expense when compared to conventional liner packers. The LFC™ Four Plug System allows the cement to be separated from the wellbore and displacement fluids until it reaches the shoe. The LFC™ is beneficial in reducing contamination of the slurry and effectively wiping the running string and liner casing. The C-2™ Setting Tool is released with right hand rotation, and then picked up to confirm release. Cement is pumped, followed by a Pump Down Plug. The Pump Down Plug latches into the Liner Wiper Plug attached to the bottom of the running string, and together they are displaced to the Type I Landing Collar just above the float shoe. Cement is prohibited from re-entering the liner by check valves within the shoe. With the cement in place, the running string is picked up to expose the packer setting dogs, and slacked off to energize the packer. With the liner top isolated, any excess cement may be safely circulated or reversed from the wellbore. Baker Oil Tools APPLICATIONS Coiled tubing has become a cost-effective method of sidetracking or deepening wells through the existing production tubing. In many cases, coiled tubing offers reduced rig up and operating expense when compared to a drilling or workover rig. Deploying and cementing liners in these wellbores has become commonplace, due to the development of dedicated CT Liner Systems by Baker Oil Tools' Open Hole Completions group. 2-3/8 in. (60.3 mm), 2-7/8 in. (73.0 mm), and 3-1/2 in. (88.9 mm) liners are routinely run on coiled tubing through 4-1/2 in. (114.3 mm) production tubing. Because rotation of the coiled tubing bottomhole assembly (BHA) is not practical during liner operations, all primary tool functions must be hydraulic. The CT Liner Setting Tool is used in conjunction with a special CT Setting Sleeve to carry the liner into the hole on a fully supported collet system, similar to the reliable HR™ Setting Tool. Other standard coiled tubing BHA components are run above the CT Setting Tool, such as a Coiled Tubing Connector, Tubing Swivel, and Hydraulic Disconnect. Since many of these ultra-slimhole liners are set horizontally, a liner hanger may not be required. These liners are typically set on bottom. After pumping down a setting ball, pressure is applied to the coil and the CT Setting Tool is released. A miniature coiled tubing pump down plug wipes the coil, mates with the appropriate liner wiper plug, and is pumped to the landing collar as the cement is displaced. Baker Oil Tools' patented HMR™ Horizontal Inflation Tool (HIT) is designed to positively locate and inflate multiple ECPs with cement or other desired inflation fluids. The HMR™ HIT assembly also prevents loss of cement from the inner string while moving between ECPs and permits excess cement to be circulated from the wellbore after final inflation. The HIT assembly may be run on an inner string during the initial liner installation, permitting single trip setting and inflation of packers as the running string is pulled out of the hole. An External Casing Packer (ECP®) and Pressure Actuated Cementing (PAC) Valve run in tandem can provide the desired isolation. The PAC Valve is used to perform a stage cement job just above the slotted pipe or wire wrapped screen. The valve opens and closes hydraulically; no pipe manipulation is necessary to operate. An ECP® is required to isolate the slotted pipe or screen from the cement job above. Compatibility between liner setting tool, PAC Valve closing seat, landing collar, and plugs must be verified prior to the installation. A similar completion can be designed which includes a cemented liner above and below the PAC Valve and ECP® (two stage cemented liner). It is considered “The Standard” in some regions because of its ability to fit a variety of applications. The particular combination of hydraulic set hanger, with compression set liner top packer allows the system to be utilized in most of today’s vertical and deviated wellbores, set shallow or deep, with short or long liners. The HMC™ Hydraulic Set Liner Hanger handles moderate to heavy loads, and requires no rotation to actuate. The ZX™ seal element has been tested at circulation rates over 17 barrels per minute (2.7 m3/min), and still provides high pressure and high temperature integrity [10,000 psi (689 bar) at 400°F (204°C)]. With the 2RH™ Liner Setting Tool in tension, the liner can be rotated before slacking off when working past ledges. An alternate version of the PBR Packoff is run above the 2RH™ Liner Setting Tool and seals in the tieback extension, providing a high pressure seal and prohibiting debris from fouling the setting tool. The Indicating Rotating Packer Setting Dog Sub ensures maximum transfer of slackoff weight to the liner top packer, even in the most deviated well. It also provides visual indication that sufficient weight reached the packer when the running string is retrieved. Baker Oil Tools APPLICATIONS APPLICATIONS CASE HISTORIES SLOTTED LINER HANGER/ PACKER ASSEMBLY Setting Ball This fit-for-purpose hookup is designed to hang a slotted liner or wire-wrapped screen and seal the liner top. The SLZXP™ Liner Hanger/Packer is built around the proven ZX™ seal element, which is highly resistant to swaboff at high circulation rates and ensures long term, high performance sealing. Bi-directional slips accept medium to heavy loading from either direction. Hydraulic Pusher Tool The SLZXP™ is run and set using a liner setting tool and a Hydraulic Pusher Tool. An inner string allows circulation through the shoe, and torque fingers permit rotation if the liner must be washed and worked into the hole. Applied pressure on the running string sets and packs off the SLZXP™ and releases the HR™ Liner Setting Tool. After cleanup of the existing tieback extension in the well, a tieback packer may be run to remedy the leak. On the second run, a JMZX™ Liner Tieback Packer is run with a liner setting sleeve and the corresponding setting tool. After the integral seal mandrel is stabbed into the tieback extension, a pressure test is performed. Straight slackoff then unlocks and sets the JMZX™ Liner Tieback Packer. The setting tool is released, and a final pressure integrity test is performed. If required, a negative or inflow test can be performed on the same trip using a Retrievamatic™ Test Packer, run above the liner setting tool. Elimination of an additional trip considerably reduces rig time and expense. Baker Oil Tools APPLICATIONS Pump Down Plug Many areas of the world experience considerable difficulty with wellbore stability when it is time to run the liner. Sloughing shales, unconsolidated sands, differential sticking and relief of tectonic stresses - all may cause hole problems which require rigorous rotation to ream the liner into the hole. This hookup includes equipment which is specifically designed for this demanding application. The SDD™ Hydraulic Set Liner Hanger is manufactured with a rugged solid body, with excellent protection for the slips, and a patented setting mechanism which requires no hydraulic cylinder. Large, high-quality flow channels provide excellent bypass of cuttings. The ZX™ packing element includes a bonded metal and elastomer seal ring which is proven to withstand long periods of high rate circulation and resist mechanical damage. The HRD™ Setting Tool’s high torsional capacity allows high-RPM rotation when the liner must be aggressively worked into the hole. The Liner Top Debris Barrier inhibits settling of cuttings and debris in the tieback extension, which could potentially cause the setting tool to become stuck. Surface Controlled Subsurface Safety Valve Snap-In/Snap-Out Shear Release Anchor (SISOSR) Seal Assembly S™ Liner Setting Sleeve (SISOSR Compatible) Double-Grip JMZX™ Liner Tieback Packer Liner Setting Sleeve (Existing Liner Top) 22 Based on tubing movement calculations, it may not be desirable to utilize a floating seal assembly on the production tubing. This hookup allows the tubing seal assembly to be anchored into the liner top, but provides a reliable method of spacing out to land the tubing at surface. Standard production tubing jewelry and safety systems can be used, eliminating the need for additional specialized equipment. First, a standard liner assembly is run, set, and cemented in place. On the second trip, a Double-Grip JMZX™ Liner Tieback Packer with a special Snap-In/Snap-Out Shear Release (SISOSR)-compatible S™ Liner Setting Sleeve is run, stabbed into the existing liner top, and set. The Double-Grip JMZX™ Liner Tieback Packer includes premium features such as the patented ZX™ seal element, opposing FLEX-LOCK® Slips to accept axial loading in either direction, and the highly dependable Bullet Seal™ technology. The setting mechanism of the JMZX™ requires no setting balls, blanking plugs, or rotation. On the final trip, a completion-type Snap-In/Snap-Out, Shear Release Anchor Seal Assembly is run on the completion string, along with any other jewelry and safety valve as required. After the necessary space out is determined using the Snap-In/Snap-Out feature, the tubing is landed and the seal assembly is anchored in place. No rotation is required during this completion process. The seal assembly can be furnished with rotational and/or shear release, for redundant methods of retrieving the tubing should the well require workover. Baker Oil Tools APPLICATIONS Pump Down Plugs In most cases, saving pipe trips will save money. The liner system shown has been designed to reduce or eliminate additional trips to clean out the liner or change out fluids prior to final completion of the well. The system has proven to be reliable and efficient in field use. Liner Top Debris Barrier The HRD™ Liner Setting Tool, the Hydraulic Set FLEX-LOCK® Liner Hanger, and a special Reaming Float Shoe with integral reaming blades allow the liner to be rotated and washed to bottom if necessary. An inner string below the setting tool, packoff assembly, and heavy-duty tubing swivel replaces the conventional liner wiper plug. All of the cement is displaced through the inner string, minimizing cement contact with the liner casing ID. After the liner is run, the hanger is set and the running tool is released per normal procedure. The cement job is pumped using the “lead - follow” Slimhole Plug System to separate cement from the other wellbore fluids. When cement displacement is complete, the running string is picked up until the RCI Packer Setting Dog Sub is removed from the packer extension. Slackoff of the drillstring, with rotation if required, sets the ZXP™ Packer and shears the indicator feature of the RCI sub. With the RCI indicator sheared, ports are opened which allow circulation from the ID of the running string to the annulus above the liner top. Excess cement is circulated out of the well while the RCI sub is maintained in compression. The running string may be rotated to avoid a stuck drillstring when circulating out the excess. Finally, the running string is picked up until the packoffs are no longer sealing, which also closes the circulation ports in the RCI sub. Completion fluid is now circulated through the inner string and displaced to the liner top. The string is slacked off again to reopen the RCI ports, and the desired fluid may be spotted into the casing above the liner. When the running string is pulled, the well is ready for completion with no cleanout trips required. This would effectively reduce the weight of the liner casing in mud from 43.4 lb/ft (64.7 kg/m) to only 6.3 lb/ft (9.4 kg/m) with air inside the liner. This would greatly reduce friction between the liner and the borehole wall. Equivalent Circulating Density (ECD) had to be watched closely due to the narrow fracture gradient to pore pressure window. Hole drag in the horizontal section would be an issue, based on modeling and field experience. Due to the high-profile nature of the project, it was preferable to use as much proven equipment as possible. Over 14,950 feet (4,560 m) of 9-5/8 in., 53.5 lb/ft (79.8 kg/m) liner casing was run with local standard FLEX-LOCK® Hydraulic Set Liner Hanger, ZXP™ Liner Top Packer, and RS™ Nipple. The modified hookup also included a Polished Bore Receptacle to provide an additional sealing location below the hanger. The liner was run in on a conventional HR™ Hydraulic Release Liner Setting Tool, with dual ST™ Landing Subs, a ported sub and dual packoffs as shown. The lower ST™ Landing Sub was modified with a single bore trip ball, which provided the isolation between the air and mud while floating the liner in. To provide necessary weight and rigidity to push the liner into the hole, 6-5/8 in. (168.3 mm) drillpipe was used. The 6-5/8 in. (168.3 mm) was kept full from the ST™ Landing Sub to surface on the trip in. When the liner reached TD, pressure was applied to trip the lower ST™ Sub, and the entire hole was filled and stabilized. Normal liner hanging and cementing operations were carried out per standard operational practice, and the liner top packer was set and successfully tested. The operator is able, using Baker Oil Tools' technology and the MoA technique, to reach target bottomhole locations that would typically require at least one more casing point. Savings in capital and rig expense are notable. Baker Oil Tools APPLICATIONS APPLICATIONS CASE HISTORIES Case History INLine™ IN DEEPWATER Tight Clearance Liner When a deepwater Gulf of Mexico operator wanted to run 10,300 ft (3,139 m) of 11-3/4 in. liner, and subsequently pressure test the wellbore to 5,000 psi (345 bar), they called on Baker Oil Tools. Conventional equipment available in the marketplace would require a compromise. The length of liner would have to be shortened and the maximum pressure would be severely limited. Hyflo™ Diverter Valve INLine™ Liner Hanger/Packer Junk Cover With a conventional hydraulic-set hanger and liner top packer, the customer had two choices. Either reduce the liner length hung to only 4,800 feet (1,463 m) with a maximum 3,000 psi (207 bar) pressure test, or limit the pressure test to 650 psi (45 bar) with a full length liner. Neither option was acceptable. Using Baker's proprietary Liner Hanger Workbook software to determine the combined effects of mechanical and hydraulic loading, it was evident that the standard 11-3/4 in. x 13-3/8 in. INLine™ Hanger/Packer System was up to the task. With its million pound (454 metric ton) load capacity and 5,500 psi (379 bar) pressure rating, the INLine™ supported the entire 10,300 ft (3,139 m) liner and passed the full pressure test required by the well plan. Operational efficiency and safety during run-in was enhanced using Baker Oil Tools' Surge Protection System. The work was completed in a single run, and the project was a success. The predrilled liners are run with an inner string to allow circulation through the shoe. The liners have 10 to 12 MPas™ Packers that are set in low permeability silt stringers using a Select Set Collet, (Product Family No. H30184) to activate the hydrostatic setting mechanism. Special packer cups installed on the shifting tool allow each packer to be pressure tested immediately after setting. Each of these 5-1/2 in. packers have predrilled 7 in. casing between them. As the oil/water contact moves up the reservoir, bridge plugs will be set in the MPas™ Packers to shut off the water production. The MPas™ also allows the option of setting a straddle between any two of the packers if it is determined that water is coming from an upper zone. On the first well, the operator saved more than $1 million USD compared to cementing and perforating a conventional liner, and expects greater cost savings in future wells. Historically these zones have resulted in severe mud losses, stuck pipe, and hole collapse. On some projects, the open hole can be drilled troublefree, but liner running is problematic or impossible. Baker Oil Tools' solution is to ream the liner to the original total depth, or even drill new formation with the liner. The liner running assembly is the most robust in the industry, and is configured to eliminate any possibility of releasing prematurely due to pressure surging. The purpose built casing bit from Hughes Christensen features the industry's first and most reliable PDC cutting structure that can be drilled out with either a roller cone or a Genesis PDC bit. The liner drilling assembly shown has enabled operators to meet drilling and completion objectives on a number of projects. On one well, the operating company fought severe losses for more than two weeks. After multiple LCM treatments and two cement plugs, the drilling BHA was pulled. Baker Hughes' liner drilling system was called out. More than 2,600 ft (793 m) of 7-5/8 in., 33.70 lb/ft (50.26 kg/m) liner casing was run on a standard HRD™ Hydraulic Release Setting Tool with Hughes Christensen’s 8.500 in. (215.9 mm) EZCase™ Casing Bit. On the trip in, the liner took weight at about 9,000 ft (2,744 m). With rotation and circulation, the liner was worked through numerous bridges and tight hole. The operator wanted to reach at least 10,200 ft measured depth (3,110 m) if possible. Although returns were lost at 10,135 ft (3,090 m), the operator decided to continue reaming in. The liner was worked to 10,637 ft (3,243 m), which was within 100 ft (30.5 m) of the originally drilled TD. The customer was pleased that the system was capable of reaming/drilling through unfavorable wellbore conditions including multiple collapsed formations and cement plugs - and has used the system again when faced with similar conditions. It is set hydraulically by applied pressure through the runin string, and is designed to support medium to heavy liner loads. The hanger is widely used in deep and high angle wells, where actuation of mechanical set hangers may not be preferred. A setting ball is dropped and/or circulated to a ball seat in the landing collar or running string. Differential pressure acts on the hydraulic cylinder, moving slips up the cones to the set position. This unique hanger can be provided as a complete assembly, or in kit form. The kit is installed without welding onto a standard FLEX-LOCK® Body, a joint of liner casing, or on a PBR body. The FLEX-LOCK® Hydraulic Set Liner Hanger is ideal for liner applications where corrosion resistant alloys are used. The FLEX-LOCK® kit can be mounted directly onto the Corrosive Resistant Alloys (CRA) casing, representing a significant savings over a CRA solid body hanger. Like the familiar HMC™ Hydraulic Liner Hanger, differential pressure across an integral hydraulic cylinder strokes the slips into engagement with the casing. The dramatic increase in hanging capacity over cone-type hangers results from state-of-the-art design and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) study. Loads transfer circumferentially into the slip seat, rather than radially inward to the mandrel as the liner weight is hung. High load stresses on the mandrel beneath the slips are avoided, preventing collapse of the hanger body under heavy loading. Stress “hot spots” in the parent casing are eliminated. Large circulation area is achieved through fluid courses located in the slip seat and behind the slips. Flow area is the same after setting the hanger as in the run-in position. FLEX-LOCK® III HYDRAULIC SET ROTATING LINER HANGER Product Family No. H29410 The FLEX-LOCK® Hydraulic Set Rotating Liner Hangers incorporate a tapered roller bearing assembly which allows the liner to be rotated with the hanger in the set position while cementing the liner. This bearing package allows the liner to be rotated at higher RPM than hangers utilizing conventional ball or journal bearing systems. HSR 2™ Hydraulic Set Rotating Liner Hanger Product Family No. H29227 33 Baker Oil Tools LINER HANGERS SDD™ HYDRAULIC SET LINER HANGER Product Family No. H29262 There are formations which are absolutely uncooperative when it’s time to run the liner. The string may require aggressive rotation for many hours to be worked to depth. The SDD™ Hydraulic Set Liner Hanger is designed as the most rugged hanger available to the industry for these applications. The solid hanger body is machined from one piece to ensure durability, complete protection for the slips, and quality fluid bypass for unimpeded circulation of cuttings and debris. FLEX-LOCK® style slips are standard to provide high load capacities. The hanger slips are actuated by discrete pistons, rather than by a hydraulic cylinder. As a result, fluid courses may be milled as deep as the OD of the liner between the slip cavities. In most sizes, burst and collapse ratings equal to mechanical set hangers can be achieved since there is no hydraulic cylinder. The aggressive cutting shape of the skids help to break up cuttings while working the liner down. Carbide buttons reduce OD wear. FEATURES/BENEFITS • Robust solid-body design allows rotation at high torque and RPM, with total protection from slip damage • Quality bypass allows high circulation rates and removal of larger cuttings without packing off • Slips tied to a common activator ring, ensuring uniform contact with casing. Pressure acting on the setting pistons generate force to stroke activator ring • Compact design reduces pressure drop and minimizes rigid tool length when working through dog legs • Elimination of hydraulic cylinder improves burst and collapse ratings over conventional hydraulic set hangers Bypass Comparison (To Scale) Flow Area in White Conventional Hydraulic Hanger SDD™ Hydraulic Hanger SDD™ HYDRAULIC SET LINER HANGER SPECIFICATION GUIDE Liner Hanger Size (Liner x Casing) in. 5x7 5 x 7-5/8 5-1/2 x 7-5/8 7 x 9-5/8 7-5/8 x 9-5/8 7-5/8 x 10-3/4 9-5/8 x 11-3/4 9-5/8 x 13-3/8 SDD™ Hydraulic Set Liner Hanger Product Family No. H29262 34 Casing Weight lb/ft 26-32 35-38 33.7-39 33.7-39 42.8 36-43.5 47-58.4 53.5 32.8-65.7 60-66.7 61-72 kg/m 38.77-47.72 52.19-56.67 50.25-58.16 50.25-58.16 63.83 53.68-64.87 70.09-87.09 79.78 48.91-97.98 89.48-99.47 90.97-107.37 Maximum OD in. 5.930 5.758 6.455 6.455 6.331 8.500 8.234 8.334 9.355 10.450 12.004 mm 150.62 146.25 163.95 163.95 160.81 215.90 209.14 211.68 237.61 265.43 304.90 NOTE: Additional sizes/weights may be available upon request. CMC™ Mechanical Set Liner Hanger Product Family No. H29210 35 Baker Oil Tools LINER HANGERS FLEX-LOCK® III MECHANICAL SET LINER HANGER Product Family No. H29413 Baker Oil Tools' patented FLEX-LOCK® Mechanical Set Liner Hanger series is capable of hanging exceptionally heavy liners. This unique hanger can be provided as a complete assembly, or in kit form. The kit is installed without welding on a standard FLEX-LOCK® body, a joint of liner casing, or on a PBR body. In effect, the liner casing is the mandrel of the hanger. A single kit may be mounted on a variety of mandrels with different threads, weights, or grades. FLEX-LOCK® Mechanical Set Liner Hangers are ideal for liner applications where maximum burst and collapse pressure ratings are required. The FLEX-LOCK® Kit can be mounted directly onto CRA casing, representing a significant savings over a CRA solid body hanger. The improved drag spring/J-cage assembly is available for right- or lefthand setting, and reduces presetting compared to pin-type actuation mechanisms. The dramatic increase in hanging capacity over cone type hangers results from state-of-the-art design and FEA study. Loads transfer circumferentially into the slip seat, rather than radially inward to the mandrel as the liner weight is hung. Load stresses on the mandrel beneath the slips are eliminated, preventing collapse of the hanger body under heavy loading. Stress “hot spots” in the parent casing are eliminated. Excellent circulation is achieved through fluid courses located in the slip seat and behind the slips. Flow area is the same after setting the hanger as in the run-in position. FLEX-LOCK® III MECHANICAL SET ROTATING LINER HANGER Product Family No. H29413 The FLEX-LOCK® Mechanical Set Rotating Liner Hanger incorporates a tapered roller bearing assembly which allows the liner to be rotated with the hanger in the set position while cementing the liner. This bearing package allows the liner to be rotated at higher RPM than hangers incorporating conventional ball or journal bearing systems. FEATURES/BENEFITS FLEX-LOCK® III Mechanical Set Liner Hanger Product Family No. H29413 36 FLEX-LOCK® III Mechanical Set Rotating Liner Hanger Product Family No. H29413 • Proprietary slip design results in substantially lower and more uniform stresses in both the parent casing and the hanger mandrel as axial load is applied • Kit hanger can be provided with mandrel, or without, for mounting on casing of any weight, grade or thread • Meets NACE specifications when required • Automatic J-cage design allows hanger to return to run-in position should hanger preset while running in hole • Tapered roller bearings (rotating version) allow rotation of liner resulting in improved cement job Baker Oil Tools LINER HANGERS FLEX-LOCK® MECHANICAL SET AND MECHANICAL SET ROTATING LINER HANGERS SPECIFICATION GUIDE Liner Hanger Size (Liner x Casing) in. 3-1/2 x 5 3-1/2 x 5-1/2 5x7 5 x 7-5/8 5-1/2 x 7 5-1/2 x 7-5/8 7 x 9-5/8 7 x 9-7/8 7-5/8 x 9-5/8 7-5/8 x 10-3/4 7-3/4 x 11-3/4 9-5/8 x 11-3/4 9-5/8 x 13-3/8 10-3/4 x 13-3/8 lb/ft 11.5-15 18.0 14-23 26-29.7 32.3 20-32 35-41 17-26 26-32 35-38 24-33.7 29.7-39 42.8-45.3 47.1 29.0 24-33.7 29.7-39 42.8-45.3 47.1 40-53.5 43.5-58.4 64.9-70.3 75.6 66.9 32.3-40 43.5-47 53.50 51-73.2 42-79 42-54 54-60 65-66.7 48-98 48-72 kg/m 17.15-22.37 26.84 20.87-34.30 38.77-44.29 48.17 29.83-47.72 52.19-61.14 25.35-38.77 38.77-47.72 52.19-56.67 35.79-50.25 44.29-58.16 63.83-67.55 70.24 43.24 35.79-50.25 44.29-58.16 63.83-67.55 70.24 59.65-79.78 64.87-87.09 96.79-104.84 112.74 99.77 48.17-59.65 64.87-70.09 79.78 76.05-109.16 62.63-117.81 62.63-80.53 80.53-89.48 96.93-99.47 71.58-146.15 71.58-107.37 Maximum OD in. 4.240 4.120 4.500 4.240 4.120 5.819 5.625 6.106 5.924 5.775 6.595 6.455 6.275 6.212 6.025 6.595 6.455 6.275 6.215 8.334 8.234 7.937 7.815 8.312 8.634 8.480 8.359 9.152 10.237 10.679 10.571 10.475 11.718 12.141 mm 107.69 104.64 114.30 107.69 104.64 147.80 142.87 155.09 150.46 146.68 167.51 163.95 159.38 157.78 153.03 167.51 163.95 159.38 157.86 211.68 209.14 201.60 198.50 211.12 219.30 215.39 212.31 232.46 260.01 271.25 268.50 266.07 297.63 308.38 LINER HANGERS 4-1/2 x 7 Casing Weight Certain size/weight ranges available only in original Mechanical FLEX-LOCK® (Product Family No. H29278) or Mechanical Rotating FLEX-LOCK® (Product Family No. H29279). Hyflo™ III Liner Packer (Shown with Optional Hold-Down Slips) Product Family No. H29612 41 Baker Oil Tools LINER PACKERS ZXP™ LINER PACKER Baker Oil Tools' patented ZXP™ Liner Packer is recognized industry-wide as today's premier high-performance liner top packer. More than 20,000 successful installations over the last decade have established the ZXP™ as the industry leader in annular sealing technology. The innovative ZX™ seal element is designed and constructed to endure exceptionally high circulation rates and achieve high pressure and temperature sealing in the most demanding wellbore environments. Flow loop testing at over 17 bpm (2.7 m3/min) confirms durability of the ZX™ seal. An elastomer sheath is bonded to a unique metal cylinder, which is swaged by a cone out to the casing wall during the setting process. Raised tangs on the circumference of the metal ring make full-circle contact with the casing ID, trapping the elastomer cover and preventing extrusion as differential pressure is applied. The ZXP™ Liner Packer is typically run as an integral component of the primary liner hookup. The ZXP™ may also be run in conjunction with a tieback seal assembly to serve as a tieback packer in the event remedial repair of the liner top is necessary. The packer is compression set using a Packer Setting Dog Sub or a Hydraulic Pusher Tool. The ZXP™ Liner Packer is available with or without hold-down slips. ZXP™ Packers can be run on C-2™, 2RH™, HR™, and HRD™ Liner Setting Tools. Tieback extensions are commonly available in lengths of 6 ft (1.82 m), 10 ft (3.04 m), 15 ft (4.57 m), and 20 ft (6.09 m). Other lengths available upon request. FEATURES/BENEFITS • Most extensively tested packer on the market • Rugged proprietary seal element design resists swaboff at high circulation rates and mechanical damage • Allows liner to be run in hole much faster than conventional liner packers, saving rig time • Aflas™ outer cover material compatible with most wellbore environments • Available with and without hold-down slips • Available with all current running tool profiles • Can be run with seal assembly as a tieback packer to isolate leaking liner top • Standard service for many sizes is 10,000 psi (689.6 bar) at 400°F (204°C); HP/HT rated tools available upon request ZXP™ LINER PACKER PRODUCT FAMILY NO. Often, a significant reduction in overall well cost can be realized by utilizing this “low annular clearance” design. Historically, the performance ratings of liner hanger assemblies in these casing combinations were marginal because of limited wall thickness available. Burst/collapse pressure ratings and hanging capacities were often inadequate to meet project requirements. Baker Oil Tools designed the INLine™ Liner Hanger/Packer System specifically to address the challenges of installing tight-clearance liners. With the INLine™ system, you get nearly twice the load capacity and significantly improved pressure integrity over conventional equipment of equivalent size. The standard 11-3/4 in. x 13-3/8 in. INLine™ has a million pound load capacity (454 metric tons) and a 5,500 psi (379 bar) pressure rating to handle the most demanding tight-clearance application. LINER PACKERS To achieve these high performance ratings, we combined several leading edge technologies into a single tool. The INLine™ system is composed of: • An innovative hydraulically actuated liner hanger with FLEX-LOCK® style slips • A compression-set ZXP™ Liner Packer • A retrievable packoff profile integral to the hanger/packer mandrel FEATURES/BENEFITS • High load capacity allows hanging long liners, combined with large pressureinduced forces • One-piece body eliminates multiple threaded connections/potential leak paths • Field-proven, bonded ZX™ packing element resists mechanical damage and swaboff at high displacement rates, while providing reliable, high pressure annular sealing • In-line setting piston eliminates conventional concentric hydraulic cylinder, greatly improving pressure integrity • Actuation pressure closely controlled via rupture disk technology • Non-welded construction is suitable for CRA or carbon steel applications With hundreds of successful installations worldwide, the INLine™ Liner Hanger Packer has become the industry’s most popular tight-clearance hanger system. The JMZX™ is typically run using a setting sleeve and setting tool on drillpipe. Upon running into the existing liner tieback extension, the integral seal stem is inserted until seated and pressure tested down the workstring. Additional slackoff weight trips the collet lock nose and actuates the packer. The setting tool is released after an annular pressure test. The JMZX™ is also commonly used when tying back a liner to surface, or when scabbing across damaged casing above the liner. Three state-of-the-art technologies are incorporated in the JMZX™ design: 1. Innovative ZX™ seal offers unsurpassed pressure and temperature ratings and rugged dependability. The bonded elastomer and metal seal element is highly resistant to swaboff and mechanical damage while running in the hole. 2. Proprietary Bullet Seals on the seal stem ensure high pressure integrity even after repeated hot-stabbing into the tieback extension. 3. FLEX-LOCK® slips provide maximum hold down capacity without damaging casing or packer mandrel. Double-grip slips available to accept exceptionally high tensile or compressive forces, preventing potential overload of existing liner hanger. Baker Oil Tools LINER PACKERS LINER SETTING SLEEVES A liner setting sleeve is used in conjunction with the setting tool to carry the liner to setting depth when a liner top packer is not desired. Several different types of setting sleeves are available based on operational requirements. The carry-in profile will generally be of the threaded type (mechanical release), or the collet type (hydraulic release). Liner setting sleeves are available with or without tieback extension, although an extension is highly recommended to allow potential future tiebacks. FEATURES/BENEFITS • Variety of setting tool profiles available to fit a wide range of applications • Available with or without tieback extension to accept premium tieback seals • HP/HT versions available upon request • Double elastomer seal with metal-to-metal shoulder standard • Beveled shoulder at top for ease of entry • Standard extension lengths of 6 ft (1.82 m), 10 ft (3.04 m), 15 ft (4.57 m), and 20 ft (6.09 m) (longer lengths available upon request) • Also available with optional RS™ profile C-2™ LINER SETTING SLEEVE LINER PACKERS Product Family No. H29530 The C-2™ Liner Setting Sleeve consists of a body with a coarse left-hand box thread into which the float nut of a C-2™ Setting Tool (Product Family No. H26521) is engaged, combined with a honed tieback extension. After reaching setting depth, the setting tool is released with right-hand rotation of the running string. The C-2™ Liner Setting Sleeve may be run with all hydraulic and left-hand set mechanical hangers. Available in materials to match most casing grades. RH™ LINER SETTING SLEEVE Product Family No. H29531 The RH™ Liner Setting Sleeve consists of a threaded body into which the float nut of a 2RH™ Setting Tool (Product Family No. H26523) is engaged. Slots are provided in the upper end of the setting sleeve body to accept torque transmitted from the torque fingers of the 2RH™ Setting Tool. Slackoff and right-hand rotation are applied concurrently to release the setting tool from the RH™ Setting Sleeve. This feature allows the RH™ Setting Sleeve to be run with hydraulic, left- or righthand set hangers. C-2™ Liner Setting Sleeve Product Family No. H29530 RH™ Liner Setting Sleeve Product Family No. H29531 51 Baker Oil Tools LINER PACKERS HR™ LINER SETTING SLEEVE Product Family No. H29532 The HR™ Liner Setting Sleeve is run in conjunction with an HR™ Liner Setting Tool (Product Family No. H26666) to carry the liner to depth. The HR™ Liner Setting Sleeve has a collet profile which mates with the HR™ Setting Tool collet. The weight of the liner is carried on the collet, rather than on float nut threads. Slots are provided in the upper end of the setting sleeve body to accept torque transmitted from the torque fingers of the HR™ Setting Tool. Because the setting tool does not rely on rotation to release from the setting sleeve, the liner can be pushed, pulled, and rotated into the hole. Shallow entry bevel at top of sleeve allows easy passage into liner. Ideal for use in high angle and horizontal applications. HRD™ LINER SETTING SLEEVE Product Family No. H29542 The HRD™ Liner Setting Sleeve is very similar to the HR™ in design and function, with increased torsional capability when the liner must be aggressively rotated into the hole. High-load compression shoulder accepts very high compressive loads, and typically five torque finger slots increase the torsional rating over the equivalent HR™ Liner Setting Sleeve. S™ SLEEVE WITH TIEBACK EXTENSION HR™ Liner Setting Sleeve Product Family No. H29532 Product Family Nos. H29546 (C-2™), H29507 (RH™), and H29547 (HR™) The S™ Sleeve with Tieback Extension is primarily designed to be used when setting a liner and tying back to surface is planned (two-stage long string). When tieback is completed, using the metal-to-metal tieback stem, the integrity of the liner top will be equal to the liner. S™ Sleeves are available with C-2™ (Product Family No. H29546), RH™ (Product Family No. H29507), and HR™ (Product Family No. H29547) profiles, which are located near the top of the sleeve. The carrying profile and honed bore are constructed from one piece. Optional metal-to-metal seal profile at the bottom of honed bore to land HP/HT tieback seal assembly. CT LINER SETTING SLEEVE Product Family No. H29516 The CT Liner Setting Sleeve, used with a CT Setting Tool (Product Family No. H26607) allows slimhole liners to be deployed on coiled tubing. The CT Setting Sleeve and CT Setting Tool are very similar in function to the familiar HR™ Hydraulic Release System. The weight of the liner is carried on a hydraulically released collet, rather than on threads, since the setting tool cannot generally be released with rotation on coiled tubing on the primary liner run. The liner can be pushed or pulled while running into the hole. Ideal for use in throughtubing horizontal sidetrack applications. One-piece setting sleeve may be ordered with or without honed bore below collet profile to facilitate landing tieback or production seals. Optional slots at top of setting sleeve body accept torque if backup release of the CT Setting Tool is required. Available for use with 3-1/2 in. and smaller liners. S™ Sleeve with RH™ Profile Product Family No. H29507 52 SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES Baker Oil Tools LINER SETTING TOOLS Liner setting tools provide the physical attachment between the running string and the liner. The setting tool is run in conjunction with a liner setting sleeve or liner top packer with the corresponding setting tool profile. Together, they perform several key functions during liner running and cementing operations: 1. Support the weight of the liner while running in the hole. 2. Ability to push, pull, and circulate freely until release is desired. 3. Reliable releasing mechanism (mechanical, hydraulic, or both) to detach running string once liner is in desired position. 4. Some tools allow rotation of liner before and after release. 5. As required, provide ability to set liner top packers after setting tool release. FEATURES/BENEFITS • Rotational or hydraulic releasing mechanisms are field-proven and available to fit a wide variety of applications • Rugged designs result in high tensile load and torque capacities • Torque fingers on certain tools permit liner to be rotated, helping to work liner to bottom or allowing rotation during cementing for improved placement of slurry C-2™ LINER SETTING TOOL Product Family No. H26521 SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES The C-2™ Liner Setting Tool is used to run, set, and cement liners, as well as to activate liner top packers. A splined, left-hand threaded nut engages left-hand threads in the setting sleeve to support the liner as it is run. The nut is supported by a bearing system to allow easy right-hand release of the running string after the liner hanger is set. A sealing packoff system is included to direct the flow of mud and cement down through the liner, rather than up past the setting tool. If a compression set packer is run with the liner, then the setting tool is raised after cementing is complete to expose the packer setting dogs. The running string is then slacked off and weight is applied to the tieback extension to set the packer. FEATURES/BENEFITS • Used to run left-hand mechanical and hydraulic set liner hangers • Dependable ball bearing/floating nut system ensures positive release from the liner top • Tool joint at top connects directly to drillpipe • High load capacity to carry long, heavy liners to depth • Accepts all types of cementing packoff assemblies • Optional packer setting dogs incorporated into main body • Integral junk cover minimizes debris inside tieback extension C-2™ Liner Setting Tool with Packer Setting Dogs Product Family No. H26521 53 Baker Oil Tools SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES HR™ LINER SETTING TOOL Product Family No. H26666 The HR™ Liner Setting Tool can be used to run, set and release from liners which include right-hand set mechanical or hydraulic set liner hangers. The patented design features a fully supported collet which is locked into a mating profile in the setting sleeve or liner top packer body, rather than using a threaded nut design. Thousands of liners run on the HR™ have proven the design’s dependability, allowing liners to be pushed, pulled, and rotated while running into the hole, without fear of backing off a float nut. The tool is ideally suited for use in wellbores that require rotation to work the liner to bottom, such as deviated/horizontal wells or wells with ledges and unstable formations. The primary releasing mechanism is activated by applying pressure to the running string after a setting ball has landed on a seat in the Landing Collar or in the running string. With the HR™ Liner Setting Tool in compression, differential pressure shears the hydraulic cylinder and strokes it upward, retracting the collet from the setting sleeve profile. A wide range of release pressures is available to suit a variety of applications and wellbore conditions. A reliable secondary release feature is included, which can be activated if the HR™ Liner Setting Tool cannot be released hydraulically. This secondary release does not depend on pressure, but is totally mechanical in operation. After applying a pre-determined amount of left-hand torque to the running string, the string is slacked off to release the collet. Simply picking up on the running tool snaps the collet from the profile. While only used infrequently, the backup release system has proven extremely reliable. FEATURES/BENEFITS • Right-hand rotation of the liner is permitted with tool in tension, compression, or neutral • Primary hydraulic release mechanism requires no rotation at the tool to activate • Reliable backup release if tool does not release hydraulically • High-load capacity allows deployment of long, heavy liners • Spring-loaded torque fingers transmit torque to liner even after release, to rotate liners while cementing • Easy stab up into setting sleeve by pushing straight in and rotating 120 degrees maximum to engage torque fingers • Available to run standard liner sizes from 3-1/2 in. through 10-3/4 in. HR™ Liner Setting Tool Product Family No. H26666 54 SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES Baker Oil Tools HRD™ LINER SETTING TOOL Product Family No. H26680 The HRD™ Liner Setting Tool incorporates most of the features found in the fieldproven HR™ Liner Setting Tool (Product Family No. H26666). The HRD™ is designed to transmit greater torque and compressive loads from the running string to the liner in more demanding applications, such as reaming a liner to bottom through badly sloughing formations. In certain regions, the HRD™ has been successfully used in conjunction with a specially designed drill bit liner shoe to literally drill a liner through new formation intervals. The increased torque rating of the HRD™ Liner Setting Tool is achieved by increasing the number and the length of the torque fingers as compared to the equivalent HR™ Liner Setting Tool. Additionally, the fingers are milled directly into the OD of the setting tool housing, increasing the housing's rigidity. Considerably greater compressive loads can be applied from the running string to the liner, due to the aggressive load shoulder configuration. The liner setting sleeve or liner top packer must be specifically ordered for use with the HRD™ Liner Setting Tool. FEATURES/BENEFITS SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES • Static torque ratings of the HRD™ are considerably higher than for corresponding HR™ Liner Setting Tool • Familiar operational procedures with enhanced performance • Liner can be rotated aggressively down or up while circulating to wash liner through difficult hole sections • Hydraulic primary release mechanism requires no rotation to activate • Reliable secondary release mechanism reduces risk if pressure cannot be applied for any reason • Simple conversion of existing HR™ Liner Setting Tool to HRD™ HRD™ Liner Setting Tool Product Family No. H26680 55 Baker Oil Tools SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES 2RH™ LINER SETTING TOOL Product Family No. H26523 The 2RH™ Liner Setting Tool is designed to run all types of mechanical and hydraulic set liner hangers. The 2RH™ tool utilizes a left-hand threaded nut assembly, with a spring-loaded, splined clutch which prevents rotation of the nut until the tool is compressed. With the tool in tension, right-hand torque may be applied to set right-hand mechanical hangers, and then weight is slacked off to allow right-hand release of the setting tool. A special rotating version of the 2RH™ Liner Setting Tool is available to be used with rotating liner hangers for improved cementing operations. Eight additional turns to the right after the float nut has released will rotationally lock the setting tool, permitting torque to be transmitted through the torque fingers to the setting sleeve. FEATURES/BENEFITS • Can be used with all types of liner hangers • Ball bearing/floating nut system ensures positive release from liner top • Releases with right-hand rotation/compression • Torque fingers provide means to rotate liner while working through tight spots (tool in tension) • Ability to rotate liner in set or unset position • Tool joint connections provide high load capacity CT LINER SETTING TOOL Product Family No. H26607 The CT Liner Setting Tool connects to the CT Liner Setting Sleeve, (Product Family No. H29516), and provides a means to carry a liner to depth on coiled tubing and release from the liner prior to cementing. The primary releasing mechanism is hydraulic, similar to Baker Oil Tools' HR™ Liner Setting Tool, (Product Family No. H26666). With a ball landed on seat, applied surface pressure will retract the collet which is latched into the setting sleeve. A backup mechanical release is available as a fishing operation on a second trip in the event the tool cannot be released hydraulically. On a subsequent trip, a thru-tubing mud motor provides the rotation required to activate the backup release mechanism. FEATURES/BENEFITS 2RH™ Liner Setting Tool (Shown with Available Lift Nipple and 2RH™ Junk Cover) Product Family No. H26523 56 CT Liner Setting Tool Product Family No. H26607 • Push or pull while running liner into hole; fully supported collet stays engaged in setting sleeve whether the tool is in tension, compression, or neutral • Tool is retrieved by straight pick-up after pressuring to desired release pressure • Easy stab up - simply push setting tool straight into the setting sleeve and rotate 1/3 turn until torque lugs lock • Small OD 3.50 in. (88.9 mm) permits slimhole liners to be run inside 4-1/2 in. production tubing Baker Oil Tools SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES HYDRAULIC PUSHER TOOL Product Family No. H26534 In some applications, it may not be preferable to use a conventional packer setting dog sub to set the liner top packer. The Hydraulic Pusher Tool is designed to generate the required packer setting force downhole with applied pressure on the running string. The Hydraulic Pusher Tool is commonly used with slotted or uncemented liners, for example, with the SLZXP™ Slotted Liner Hanger Packer (Product Family No. H29635); it is also frequently used to set standard compression-set packers such as the ZXP™ Liner Top Packer when used as a tieback packer. The Hydraulic Pusher Tool may be used with cemented liners that are intended to be reciprocated. The Liner Setting Tool remains attached to the liner during cementing operations, and anchors the pusher tool while setting the packer. FEATURES/BENEFITS • Ensures that compression-set liner packers receive full setting force, regardless of well deviation • May be used with C-2™, 2RH™, and Hydraulic Release Setting Tools • Allows liner packers to be set hydraulically without need for hydraulic cylinder in the packer itself, improving packer burst and collapse pressures • Available to set liner packers from 5 in. - 11-3/4 in. LINER TOP DEBRIS BARRIER The Liner Top Debris Barrier is designed to prevent cuttings and other debris from entering the tieback extension, which could potentially settle out and stick the liner setting tool. The Liner Top Debris Barrier remains positioned in the top of the tieback extension until cementing is complete, when it is shear released and retrieved with the running string. Fluid enters and exits the extension through the screen section, preventing potential collapse of the tieback extension. Available to fit most extension ID’s from 5.000 in. - 11.500 in. (127 mm - 292.1 mm). Liner Top Debris Barrier Product Family No. H26543 FEATURES/BENEFITS • Filters fluid which is drawn into tieback extension, reducing possibility of stuck setting tools due to settling debris • Attached to top of tieback extension with single shear screw • May be installed on standard drill pipe pup joints • Reliable and effective, simple to maintain • “Stroke down” feature similar to standard RH™ Junk Cover allows downward movement necessary for 2RH™ and HR™ Setting Tool backup release • Back-up rupture disk prevents tieback extension collapse if screen plugs off with excessive solids Hydraulic Pusher Tool Product Family No. H26534 57 SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES Product Family No. H26543 Baker Oil Tools SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES PACKER SETTING DOG SUBS Packer Setting Dog Subs are used to activate and pack off compression-set liner top packers. Multiple spring-loaded dogs are compressed within the packer extension throughout liner running and cementing. At the appropriate time, the setting dog sub is raised out of the packer extension and the dogs expand out to the OD of the extension. Setting force is transferred through the dogs and onto the packer extension as drillpipe weight is slacked off. STANDARD PACKER SETTING DOG SUB Product Family No. H26541 The Standard Packer Setting Dog Sub is the simplest version, incorporating four or more spring-loaded dogs. This tool is suitable for vertical to moderately deviated wells when significant buckling of the drillstring is not expected. INDICATING ROTATING PACKER SETTING DOG SUB Product Family No. H26542 The Indicating Rotating Packer Setting Dog Sub is similar to the standard dog sub above, with two additional features that make it useful in all wellbores, including extended reach. To provide visual confirmation that adequate setting force was applied to the liner top packer, an adjustable shear indicator is included above the setting dogs. Also incorporated is a tapered roller bearing assembly which allows rotation and slackoff of the running string without damaging the packer extension or setting dogs. Rotation breaks the static friction between the drillpipe and casing, reducing buckling and ensuring adequate transfer of setting force to the liner top packer. Standard Packer Setting Dog Sub Product Family No. H26541 Indicating Rotating Packer Setting Dog Sub Product Family No. H26542 UNLOCKING INDICATING ROTATING PACKER SETTING DOG SUB Product Family No. H26546 An alternate configuration of the Indicating Rotating Packer Setting Dog Sub is available which includes an unlocking feature that allows the dog sub to be pulled out of the packer extension one time without exposing the setting dogs. When stabbed back into the extension, the setting dogs become armed, ready to expand the second time the dog sub is pulled out of the extension. ROTATING CIRCULATING INDICATING PACKER SETTING DOG SUB Unlocking Indicating Rotating Packer Setting Dog Sub Product Family No. H26546 58 Rotating Circulating Indicating Packer Setting Dog Sub Product Family No. H26545 Product Family No. H26545 The Rotating Circulating Indicating, or RCI Packer Setting Dog Sub is a modified version of the Indicating Rotating Packer Setting Dog Sub (Product Family No. H26542), and is typically run in conjunction with an inner string. The tool includes a selective circulating system which is activated upon setting the liner top packer. With the indicating mechanism sheared, flow ports are opened between the ID of the running string and the annulus above the packer. This allows circulation at the liner top to remove excess cement, without the need to pull the inner string up to a “circulating” position. The ports may be opened and closed repeatedly as required, and the running string can be rotated during cleanup circulation if desired. SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES Baker Oil Tools ST™ LANDING SUB Product Family No. H27605 The ST™ Landing Sub is installed in the running string below the setting tool as a means of applying pressure to activate hydraulic devices. The ST™ Landing Sub is especially useful in horizontal applications where it may be difficult to seat a ball in a conventional Type II Landing Collar near the shoe. A setting ball is circulated to the ST™ Landing Sub, and applied pressure will activate a hydraulic-set liner hanger and HR™ Liner Setting Tool (Product Family No. H26666), if used. After release of the setting tool is confirmed, pressure is further increased to trip the ST™ Landing Sub to the full open position. For most sizes, the setting ball will be expelled to pass through the liner. Once the ST™ has been actuated, the tool allows passage of the pump down plug during cementing. The ST™ Landing Sub can be used in combination with all conventional liner wiper plug and LFC™ systems. FEATURES/BENEFITS • Incorporates a built-in ball guide which assures proper seat of the setting ball, even in horizontal applications • Reduces pressure surging at the shoe when the landing sub shears, which can cause breakdown and fluid loss in sensitive formations • Full ID to the run-in string after the setting ball shears out • Compatible with all Baker Oil Tools liner setting tools • Available in three sizes to run 5 in. and larger liners • Ceramic ball seat is standard to prevent erosion at high circulation rates SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES PORTED ST™ LANDING SUB Product Family No. H27606 The Ported ST™ Landing Sub, similar in design to the standard ST™ Landing Sub, is installed in the running string below the setting tool as a means of applying pressure to activate hydraulic devices. The Ported ST™ also includes upper and lower packoffs, and a ported section which closes when the setting ball shears out. Typically run with an inner string, the Ported ST™ allows actuation of a hydraulic set hanger and/or setting tool, and then restores pressure integrity of the running string after ball seat shear out. The Ported ST™ is used for two main applications. During sequential inflation of ECPs, the inflation tool must be raised to the position of each ECP®. An open port just below the liner setting tool would not provide pressure integrity of the running string to inflate the packers. Another common application is when it is desired to displace the fluid in the liner to completion fluid immediately after cementing. A full length inner string is run, and circulation through the inner string is possible since the port is shifted closed after actuation. ST™ Landing Sub Product Family No. H27605 FEATURES/BENEFITS • Includes all of the field-proven features of the standard ST™ Landing Sub (Product Family No. H27605) • Integral opposing swab cups provide pressure isolation across hydraulic port of hanger, PBR packoffs available upon request • Port isolation upon actuation of trip ball restores pressure integrity of the running string when packoffs are pulled out of the liner ID Ported ST™ Landing Sub Product Family No. H27606 59 Baker Oil Tools SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES DELAYED OPENING BALL SEAT Product Family No. H27611 The shearing out of conventional ball seats near the liner shoe is typically accompanied by some degree of hydraulic surging. Certain formations may break down when this pressure wave exits the shoe. This unintentional hydraulic fracture can lead to severe losses when the hydrostatic pressure of the cement in the open hole annulus re-opens the fracture. The pressure surge is caused by stored energy in the compressed fluid above the ball and seat. Baker Oil Tools developed the Delayed Opening Ball Seat specifically to reduce the magnitude of the pressure spike. The surge is reduced in two ways. First, the position of the ball seat in the wellbore reduces the volume of compressed fluid significantly and allows the pressure wave to dissipate through the volume of the liner before it exits the shoe. In this way, it provides the same benefit as the familiar ST™ Landing Sub (Product Family No. H27605) and the Extrudable Ball Seat (Product Family No. H27611). The Delayed Opening Ball Seat offers an additional significant benefit toward reducing pressure surging. Since the intensity of the induced surge is directly proportional to the compression of fluid above the ball seat, it can be substantially reduced by bleeding back the applied surface pressure after activating the ball seat release feature. Once the rupture disk bursts, hydraulic oil slowly bleeds through an orifice and provides adequate time for the pressure to be reduced at surface prior to ball seat extrusion. No appreciable pressure spike hits the formation. Several innovative technologies are combined within the Delayed Opening Ball Seat, such as a supported extrudable ball seat, precision rupture disk actuation, and controlled metering of hydraulic oil. After all required tools have functioned, additional pressure is applied to extrude the ball through the seat. Tightly controlled material properties and seat thickness profile ensures that the seat will yield consistently at the desired pressure. Seats are designed to yield sufficiently to pass standard Pump Down Plugs (Product Family No. H27020) during normal cementing operations. CUP SEAL SYSTEM WITH EXTRUDABLE BALL SEAT Product Family No. H27610 SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES Extrudable ball seat technology can readily be incorporated into a number of tools in the running tool string. One of the most common is the Cup Seal System (Product Family No. H27604), often used to direct hydraulic pressure to a hydraulic set liner hanger. A downward-facing cup seal assembly is run above the Cup Seal System with Extrudable Ball Seat (Product Family No. H27610), with a port to provide fluid pressure transmission. Contact your technical representative to learn more about the benefits of Baker Oil Tools' extrudable ball seats. Extrudable Ball Seat Sub Product Family No. H26691 Cup Seal System with Extrudable Ball Seat Product Family No. H27610 61 Baker Oil Tools SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES LINER SETTING TOOL PACKOFF ASSEMBLIES To cover a complete range of Liner Hanger applications, Baker Oil Tools offers four different liner top cementing packoff systems. Each system is designed to provide a reliable seal at the liner top between the liner setting tool string and the liner ID. FEATURES/BENEFITS • Provides positive seal at liner top, permitting actuation of hydraulic devices and cementing of liner • Most packoffs utilize premium high pressure/temperature seals • Most systems provide immediate fullbore access to liner bore • Drillable assemblies made of composite or aluminum for ease of drillout CEMENTING PBR Product Family No. H29701 The Cementing PBR is run below the liner setting sleeve, providing an unrestricted honed bore to seat a PBR Seal Assembly (Product Family No. H27603), during cementing operations. After the liner has been cemented, the PBR may also be used to land a production seal assembly to create a packerless completion. Cementing PBR Product Family No. H29701 PBR PACKOFF PBR Packoff Product Family No. H27603 Product Family No. H27603 The PBR Packoff is a one foot cementing packoff run below the liner setting tool which seals in the honed bore of the Cementing PBR (Product Family No. H29701). The stack may be comprised of either Molyglass chevron rings or Baker Oil Tools' patented Bullet Seals to ensure dependable performance even in high pressure/temperature conditions. The PBR Packoff will hold pressure from either direction, and leaves an unrestricted liner top at the end of cementing operations. An alternate configuration of the PBR Packoff, run above the liner setting tool, may be used to seal in the tieback extension rather than inside a dedicated PBR. This is commonly referred to as a “sleeve packoff”. RS™ SEAL SYSTEM Product Family Nos. H28206 (Assembly), H29401 (Nipple), and H28309 (Slick Stinger) The RS™ Seal System is designed to create a high pressure two-way seal at the liner top, while reducing upward piston force on the running string when pressure exists below the packoff. The system leaves an unrestricted liner top immediately upon retrieval of the running string, with no need to drill out. The system includes three basic components: The RS™ Nipple (Product Family No. H29401), run in the liner string, provides the locking profile and honed bore for the packoff to land in. RS™ Nipple Product Family No. H29401 RS™ Seal Assembly with Stinger Product Family Nos. H28206 and H28309 62 The RS™ Seal Assembly (Product Family No. H28206), and the RS™ Slick Stinger (Product Family No. H28309) are included in the running string below the liner setting tool. The RS™ Seal Assembly utilizes Molyglass chevron rings on both the OD and ID, to seal inside the bore of the RS™ Nipple and on the Polished OD of the Slick Stinger. Locking dogs are expanded by the upset OD of the Slick Stinger, securely anchoring the packoff in the nipple until cementing is complete. Several Slick Stinger lengths are available to fit a variety of applications. Baker Oil Tools SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES DRILLABLE PACKOFF BUSHING Product Family No. H28205 SLICK STINGER ASSEMBLY Product Family No. H28308 The Drillable Packoff Bushing, sometimes called a Flapper Valve, is normally run between the liner top packer (or setting sleeve) and the liner hanger. Used in conjunction with a Slick Stinger (Product Family No. H28308), the Drillable Packoff creates a positive two-way seal at the liner top. Upward piston forces are greatly reduced in comparison to the PBR Packoff or Cup Seal System, particularly when running large diameter liners. Molyglass seal rings are mounted in an aluminum insert, which is drilled out after cementing is complete. Available with or without flapper. COMPOSITE DRILLABLE PACKOFF Drillable Packoff Bushing (Shown with Optional Flapper Valve) Product Family No. H28205 Product Family No. H28207 SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES In limited sizes, the Drillable Packoff is also offered with an insert constructed from composite materials. The Composite Drillable Packoff is rapidly drilled out with all bit types, without damaging cutters. A large re-entry bevel on top of the insert allows the slick stinger to be safely restabbed in the event that it is pulled out of the packoff bore. Not available with flapper. CUP SEAL SYSTEM Product Family No. H27604 The Cup Seal System is an economical setting tool packoff suitable for low pressure/temperature service. Various configurations may be used to fit a wide range of applications, and can hold pressure from above, below, or both directions. An integral Liner Wiper Plug Swivel may be included if desired. The Cup Seal System provides an unrestricted liner top at the end of cementing operations. Composite Drillable Packoff Product Family No. H28207 Cup Seal System (Shown with optional Liner Wiper Plug Swivel) Product Family No. H27604 Slick Stinger Assembly Product Family No. H28308 63 Baker Oil Tools SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES HYFLO™ SURGE PROTECTION SYSTEM Product Family Nos. H26547 and H10182 Often, tight clearance liners are incorporated into the well plan to reduce overall well cost. One challenge faced when installing these liners involves hydrodynamic pressure surging. The liner, acting as a large piston, requires slow trip speeds and frequently contributes to expensive fluid losses. In the past, the solution was to run simple auto-fill float equipment and allow some of the displaced mud to flow to surface through the ID of the liner and drill pipe. The technique helped, but did not effectively solve the problem, and certainly made a mess on the rig floor. Baker Oil Tools' Hyflo™ Surge Protection System has helped operators on hundreds of tight clearance projects to improve operating efficiency and reduce installation cost/risk. The system includes the Hyflo™ 10 Auto-Fill Float Collar (Product Family No. H10182), which offers more than 10 sq in. (64.52 cm2) of flow area in both directions - the largest area available in the industry for auto-fill float equipment. Also integral to the system is the Hyflo™ Diverter Valve (Product Family No. H26547), which is installed just above the liner in the running string. Together, these devices eliminate surging at all practical liner running speeds. Hyflo™ 10 Auto-Fill Float Collar Product Family No. H10182 Hyflo™ Diverter Valve Product Family No. H26547 64 While running into the hole, mud is allowed to flow up the ID of the liner and liner setting tools, and then is diverted to the drill pipe annulus immediately above the liner hanger assembly. This provides maximum flow area from TD to the surface and directs displaced mud returns to the pits. Once the liner is at setting depth, the Hyflo™ Diverter Valve is shifted closed by pressuring against a setting ball. As the valve closes, the ball is expelled and lands on a seat in the Hyflo™ 10 Float Collar. Pressure is applied to activate any hydraulic devices necessary, and additional pressure activates a releasing mechanism to convert the float valves to the normal “back pressure valve” function. The Hyflo™ Diverter Valve includes an extrudable seat which reliably passes balls and Pump Down Plugs at specific pressures. The BOTSurge™ model computes effective mud weight at various trip speeds when running casing configured with conventional float equipment (blue line), Auto-Fill Float equipment (red line), and Auto-Fill Float equipment with the Hyflo™ Diverter Valve (green line). Well conditions are the same for all three designs. In this example, results clearly show that the combination of Auto-Fill Float equipment and Hyflo™ Diverter Valve enables casing to be run at much higher trip speed without the risk of formation breakdown. Wiper Plug Baker Oil Tools SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES CONVENTIONAL LINER CEMENTING PLUG SYSTEMS Cementing plug systems used in liner applications typically serve two basic functions; 1. They serve as physical barriers between the cement and other wellbore fluids as they are being pumped, while effectively wiping the cement from the tubulars that it's pumped through. 2. They confirm displacement volumes of both the running string and the liner. Visible pressure indications signal when the cement has been completely displaced from both the drillpipe and the liner casing. PUMP DOWN PLUG Product Family No. H27020 The Pump Down Plug, also referred to as the “drillpipe dart” is used to wipe the running string behind (and sometimes in front of) the cement. The Pump Down Plug may be used to latch into a Liner Wiper Plug as described below, or can be used to wipe both the running string and the liner casing in small diameter liner applications. Multiple darts may be used to more effectively wipe the tubulars and reduce cement contamination. Various wiper fin, nose, and latch configurations are available to fit a wide range of applications. TYPE I AND TYPE II LINER WIPER PLUG Pump-Down Plug Product Family No. H27020 Product Family Nos. H26921 (Type I) and H26922 (Type II) Liner Wiper Plugs are used to separate cement from the displacement fluid during cementing operations. The Type I Liner Wiper Plug is shear pinned to the bottom of the running string, below the Liner Setting Tool and Packoff. Type II Plugs are installed in a Plug Holder Bushing (Product Family No. H29994), in the liner string below the hanger and setting tools. At the tail of the cement, a Pump Down Plug (Product Family No. H27020), is released and follows the cement down the running string. When the Pump Down Plug lands in the Liner Wiper Plug, pressure is increased and shears the Liner Wiper Plug free, allowing both plugs to be displaced as a unit to the landing collar. Both types of Liner Wiper Plugs are manufactured of drillable materials, and are rotationally locked into the landing collar to prevent spinning during drillout. Ceramic seat available to prevent erosion at high circulation rates. Type I Liner Wiper Plug Product Family No. H26921 Type II Wiper Plug Product Family No. H26922 TYPE I LANDING COLLAR Product Family No. H27410 Usually run in the liner one or two joints above a float collar or shoe, the Type I Landing Collar provides the seat and latch profile to catch the Liner Wiper Plug at the completion of cement displacement. Landing collars and plugs are designed to ensure rapid and complete drillout. Landing collar bodies are available in virtually all weight, material, and thread combinations. TYPE II LANDING COLLAR Type I Landing Collar Product Family No. H27410 66 Type II Landing Collar Product Family No. H26655 Product Family No. H26655 The Type II Landing Collar has all of the features of the Type I Landing Collar, and also includes an integral ball seat below the Liner Wiper Plug seat. When a setting ball is dropped and seated, pressure may be applied to activate hydraulic devices in the liner string, such as hydraulic set liner hangers and external casing packers. Further increase in pressure shears out the ball and seat, restoring full circulation through the shoe for cementing operations. SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES Baker Oil Tools SOLO PLUG™ Product Family No. H26938 The Solo Plug™ liner wiper plug system includes a number of advancements designed to enhance reliability and performance over conventional liner cementing plugs. The multiple fin arrangement, similar to long string casing plugs, will effectively wipe a wide range of casing weights. The plug is attached securely to the Release Adapter (Product Family No. H26937) by a collet mechanism, which can only be released when a dart is landed and differential pressure is applied. The plug cannot be mechanically pulled off of the running string (for instance, while picking up to confirm release of the liner setting tool) since it does not rely on simple shear pin attachment. The Release Adaptor includes a rupture disk feature which provides a reliable backup releasing method if the Solo Plug™ cannot be released at normal pump pressure. Within the body of the Solo Plug™ is incorporated a ceramic Pump Down Plug seat, to eliminate potential erosion at high circulation rates. The Solo Plug™ and Pump Down Plug are designed to be compatible with standard Type I and Type II Landing Collars, and will withstand high differential pressures in both directions when the plug is latched. With the nose seals landed, the plug's fins are not required to hold pressure and - most importantly - the cement stays where you want it. FEATURES/BENEFITS • Multiple wiping fins for added displacement efficiency • Short, compact design improves drillability • Nose seal and positive latching results in increased differential rating (5,000 psi [345 bar] from above and below in most sizes) • Ceramic dart seat eliminates potential washout • Backup release feature ensures cement job can be completed successfully • Plug cannot be mechanically sheared off the running tool when picking up Solo Plug™ (Shown with Release Adapter) Product Family No. H26938 SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES SLIMHOLE LANDING COLLAR Product Family Nos. H26672 (Type I) and H26678 (Type II) When cementing slim liners, the cement volume pumped is typically small. Any contamination of the cement may compromise wellbore integrity. Containment of the slurry prevents intermixing of the cement with spacers and mud as it is displaced. Similar to the LFC™ Four Plug Cementing System, the slimhole plugs bound the cement, reducing contamination. The Slimhole Landing Collar and Plug System is designed for cementing small diameter liners, from 2-7/8 in. to 5 in. The system consists of two Pump Down Plugs and a Slimhole Landing Collar. The lead Pump Down Plug is dropped in front of the cement, and the follow plug dropped at the tail of cement. When the lead plug reaches the Slimhole Landing Collar, a rise in pressure allows verification of displacement volume. An increase in pressure opens the bypass, and displacement of cement continues. Finally the second plug bumps, indicating the completion of the cement job. The Lead Pump Down Plug contains a rupture disk, which will burst and allow displacement of cement to continue if the dart does not reach the Landing Collar for any reason. FEATURES/BENEFITS • • • • • Both plugs wipe the ID of the drillpipe and liner No liner wiper plugs necessary Containment of cement reduces intermixing and contamination Allows positive confirmation of displacement volume Plugs are not exposed to long-term wellbore temperature, potentially leading to thermal breakdown of elastomers • Available as Type I (Product Family No. H26672), or as Type II with Ball Seat (Product Family No. H26678) Slimhole Landing Collar Product Family No. H26678 67 Baker Oil Tools SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES LFC™ FOUR PLUG SYSTEM Product Family No. H26927 The LFC™ Four Plug System consists of two unique Liner Wiper Plugs and two Pump Down Plugs. It is designed to be used to isolate cement from wellbore fluids and minimize contamination, or can be used in conjunction with an external casing packer and Pressure Actuated Cementing (PAC) Valve (Product Family No. H30112), for two-stage liner cementing. The plugs are securely attached to the LFC™ Adapter (Product Family No. H26928), run below the setting tool, held in place by fully supported collets rather than simple shear screw attachment. When used as a “lead - follow” cementing system, the first dart is released ahead of the cement, is displaced down the running string, and lands in the “lead” liner wiper plug. With pressure increase, the release mechanism of the lead plug activates and the collet releases the lead plugs ahead of the cement. Behind the cement, the second dart is dropped, and displaced to the “follow” liner wiper plug. The two sets of plugs contain the cement in between, minimizing contamination of the slurry. When the lead plugs reach the LFC™ Landing Collar, cement bypasses around the plugs and out the shoe. At the end of cementing, the follow plugs latch into the landing collar, providing a noticeable “bump” displacement pressure at the surface. Two-stage cementing operations are similar, but plugs with modified nose profiles and a Single Plug LFC™ Landing Collar, without bypass are used. The “lead” plugs are pumped behind the first cement stage and are displaced through the PAC Valve to the landing collar above the shoe. The “follow” plugs are pumped behind the second-stage and land in the PAC Valve. An increase in bump pressure closes the PAC Valve and prevents u-tubing of second stage cement into the liner. FEATURES/BENEFITS LFC™ Landing Collar (Shown with Release Adapter) Product Family No. H27414 • Isolates cement from drilling and displacement fluids for improved cement quality • Positive shear indication when each plug is released • Second plug is designed to release only after lead plug has been released • Check valve in LFC™ Adapter allows fluid bypass; setting tool can be raised without damaging plugs Description Standard LFC™ Landing Collar LFC™ Landing Collar for PAC Valve LFC™ Landing Collar Product Family No. H27418 68 Product Family Nos. H26939, H26935 (Plug Launch Tool), H27025 (Pump Down Plug), and H27419 (Landing Collar) The HYPER™ 2 Liner Cementing Plug System was developed to address shortcomings of all “conventional” liner cementing plug systems. Three years of design and testing has resulted in a system that will change the industry's expectations of wiper plug performance. The following major issues are resolved in the HYPER™ 2 concept: • Positive, consistent indication at surface when drillpipe wiper darts arrive at Liner Wiper Plug launching device and release lead and follow plugs • High pressure integrity from above and below when Liner Wiper Plugs latch into Landing Collar • Plugs and Landing Collar are manufactured from composite material and elastomers, eliminating damaged PDC cutters and dramatically reducing drillout time SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES The HYPER™ 2 Launch Tool (Product Family No. H26935), includes a ball seat for pressuring up to activate hydraulic devices, as well as the launching feature for two specially engineered liner wiper plugs. The activations of the ball seat and the plug ram are dampened by a unique hydraulic oil metering system. When pressure is applied above the ball or the pump down plugs, precision rupture disks burst and the launch ram strokes down incrementally. The plugs are positively restrained within the Launch Tool until the Pump Down Plugs land in sequence. FEATURES/BENEFITS • Repositioned ball seat reduces pressure surge on the formation, allows reliable seating in highly deviated wellbores, and eliminates the need to drill ball and seat out from the shoe track • Controlled metering of hydraulic fluid results in extended pressure indications at surface • Liner Wiper Plugs are protected from premature mechanical release, fin damage due to differential pressure, and erosion of the dart seat - all problems seen with conventional plug systems • Advanced nose seal and anti-rotation geometry on Liner Wiper Plugs allow high pressure plug bumps and enhance drillability • Retrieval of Pump Down Plugs and Setting Ball leads to easier drill-out and facilitates performance assessment after every job HYPER™ 2 Lead Follow Plug System Product Family No. H26935 HYPER™ 2 Plug Landing Collar Product Family No. H27419 69 Baker Oil Tools SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES CEMENT-FILLED FLOAT EQUIPMENT Float collars and float shoes have long been considered standard equipment when running and cementing liner casing strings. They perform the very important function of preventing the heavier uncured cement in the annulus from u-tubing back into the liner when displacement is complete. Floats are basically one-way check valves. Components are designed for easy drillout with all bit types, including PDC. API Recommended Practices (RP) 10F specifies testing parameters and regimen for oilfield float equipment. RP 10F includes two distinct types of testing. The first test qualifies the durability of the valves under high-rate, high-solids mud flow, and the second test confirms the ability of the valve to hold differential pressure from below. The cement-filled float equipment offered by Baker Oil Tools meets API RP 10F test specifications. SINGLE AND DOUBLE VALVE FLOAT COLLAR Product Family Nos. H10183 (Single Valve) and H10187 (Double Valve) Float Collars are typically run one or two joints above the liner shoe and prevent the backflow of cement into the liner after the plugs have been bumped and the pressure released. They may be used with or without floats in the shoe itself. Single Valve Float Collar Product Family No. H10183 SINGLE AND DOUBLE VALVE FLOAT SHOE Product Family Nos. H10082 (Single Valve) and H10083 (Double Valve) Float shoes are run at the bottom of the liner, serving to guide the liner through the open hole to TD, and to provide protection from backflow. Side and bottom ports ensure reliable circulation even if the liner is set on bottom or is lying on the low side of a deviated wellbore. Double Valve Float Shoe Product Family No. H10083 70 Single Valve Float Shoe Product Family No. H10082 SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES Baker Oil Tools CEMENT-FILLED FLOAT EQUIPMENT (Continued) SINGLE VALVE ORIFICE FLOAT COLLAR Product Family No. H10184 The Single Valve Orifice Float Collar is run at the bottom of a tieback liner, just above the Tieback Seal Assembly. It provides restricted fillup of the tieback liner through an orifice while running in, and minimizes overflow of mud onto the rig floor. At the end of displacement, the float valve controls u-tubing of cement into the liner until the tieback seals are stabbed in. The orifice ensures that the tieback seals can be inserted by eliminating hydraulic lock. Single Valve Orifice Float Collar Product Family No. H10184 EZCase™ CASING BIT EZCase™ Casing Bit 71 SETTING TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES When project objectives indicate casing or liner drilling techniques to be the optimal wellbore construction method, specialized equipment is required. Hughes Christensen has recently introduced the EZCase™ system as its bit solution. EZCase™ is a product of advanced 3-D design and is manufactured from a specialized steel alloy. This unique material allows PDC cutters to be brazed directly to the one piece bit, ensuring a robust cutting structure capable of efficiently drilling new formation. EZCase™ is compatible with standard cementing practices, and can be reliably drilled out using a steel tooth or Genesis PDC bit. The trip arm, or flag, is in the horizontal position across the flow stream before the Pump Down Plug is released. As the plug passes, the flag is moved to the vertical position. The flag can be reset to the horizontal position repeatedly when used with multiple Pump Down Plugs. Baker Oil Tools' Positive Ball Dropping Sub provides a convenient method to release a setting ball from the surface without breaking a drill pipe connection or removing a hammer union cap. The ball is positively retained in a recess beside the flow stream, unaffected by the fluid flow until the ball is released by a simple turn of the release lever. When the release lever is rotated approximately 300 degrees, the ball is positively ejected from the recess into the flow stream. The lever handle is locked until the time to drop the setting ball. A counter-clockwise turn of the handle confirms the presence of the ball without risk of premature release. Two sizes available to drop from 1-1/8 in. - 2-1/4 in. (28.5 mm - 57.15 mm) setting balls. It is run as an integral part of the casing or liner string to provide a barrier between the casing and wellbore. The MPas™ has an elastomeric element with composite structure, which is hydraulically set. Shifting a balance sleeve allows wellbore hydrostatic pressure to enter an atmospheric chamber, which applies setting force to the non-inflatable element. A lock mechanism holds this setting force in even if the hydrostatic pressure is removed. Additional setting force can be applied at any time by increasing the hydrostatic or applied pressure at the packer. The MPas™ can be run on blank casing to isolate unwanted zones, in slotted casing to separate producing zones, or even between screens in a gravel pack for zone isolation and to minimize hot spots and migration of fines from zone to zone. When running the MPas™ in a horizontal gravel pack, a BetaBreaker™ (Product Family No. H30178) Valve is used to prevent sand from being deposited around the packer OD before it is set. When pulling out of the hole after pumping the gravel pack, a shifting tool on the end of the washpipe will set all MPas™ Packers in the casing string. FEATURES/BENEFITS • Provides zone isolation by acting as a barrier between zones with or without cement • Extensively tested in oval test fixtures to ensure reliability in irregular shaped wellbores • Can be run in horizontal gravel packs and set in a single trip when used in conjunction with the BetaBreaker™ Valve • Protects cement by blocking gas and fluid migration while cement sets up • Allows stage cementing of deep wells by isolating lower zones from high hydrostatic pressures from long cement columns • Locking dogs protect against premature setting until the setting sleeve is physically shifted • A progressive setting sleeve in the element allows it to fully set and conform to the wellbore • A body lock ring locks in the setting force while still allowing additional setting pressure to be applied later if desired • MPas™ EQUALIZER™ One-Trip Open Hole Completion System offers optimized production, delays water/gas coning, minimizes or eliminates annular flow, and encourages uniform inflow along the lateral MPas™ MECHANICAL OPEN HOLE PACKER SYSTEM SPECIFICATION GUIDE Housing OD in. mm 5.625 142.88 8.030 203.96 9.125 231.78 Element OD in. mm 5.625 142.88 7.813 198.45 8.906 226.21 NOTE: Additional sizes/weights may be available upon request. After all ECPs in the hole are inflated, the annulus is cemented through the HM™ Hydro-Mechanical Cementing Valve, in a single trip. After the desired cement stage has been displaced, the HMR-C™ HIT Tool (Product Family No. H30164), is used to mechanically close the HM™ Cementing Valve. The HM™ Hydro-Mechanical Cementing Valve is run in the liner string, usually directly above the uppermost ECP®. Once all ECPs are inflated, the HMR-C™ HIT tool is set across the HM™ Hydro-Mechanical Cementing Valve to isolate the valve. Workstring pressure is then applied, releasing the locking mechanism and opening the valve. Cement is pumped and displaced into the annulus. The HMR-C™ HIT tool prevents cement from entering the liner while displacing to the annulus. When the desired volume of cement has been displaced to the annulus, upward motion of the HMR-C™ HIT Tool shifts the closing sleeve of the HM™ Hydro-Mechanical Cementing Valve. The sleeve locks in the closed position, preventing accidental re-opening of the valve as well as potential u-tubing of cement. FEATURES/BENEFITS • Simple design for high reliability • Hydraulically opened after the HMR-C™ HIT Tool has been set across the valve • Mechanically closed and locked with upward movement of the workstring after displacing annular cement using a shifting tool on the HMR-C™ HIT Tool • Hydraulic interlock mechanism prevents the closing sleeve from being prematurely shifted • Full opening ID, OD comparable to ECP® • Large flow area compared to other cementing valve designs • All moving parts within the tool are internal; hole deviation does not effect valve operation • Design compatible with premium casing threads • Available in 4-1/2 in., 5 in., 5-1/2 in., and 7 in. sizes HM™ Hydro-Mechanical Cementing Valve Product Family No. H30173 86 EXTERNAL CASING PACKERS Baker Oil Tools HMR™ HYDRO-MECHANICAL HORIZONTAL INFLATION TOOL Product Family No. H30135 The HMR™ Hydro-Mechanical Horizontal Inflation Tool (HMR™ HIT) is designed for deviated or horizontal applications requiring selective inflation of ECPs with top mounted valve collars. Non-contaminated cement is spotted at the tool for inflation purposes, which allows selective inflation and movement between ECPs in slotted liners, drilled liners or production screens. The tool prevents loss of cement to the liner during movement between ECPs. The tool can be run on an inner string on the primary liner run, or used on a second trip after the liner is set. Available in alternate configuration called the HMR-C™ HIT Tool (Product Family No. H30164). The tool provides a communication path from the running string to the hanger’s hydraulic ports, which can be subsequently closed to enable selective ECP® inflation, such as with the HMR™ HIT Tool (Product Family No. H30135). The HPIT is made up below the liner setting tool. An RS™ type packoff assembly provides the upper seal in the hanger assembly, while packer cups or a molded seal provides pressure integrity below the hydraulic ports. Ports in the HPIT provide the pressure communication from the workstring to the liner hanger during setting. After the hydraulic hanger has been set and the setting tool released, picking up the running string strokes the inner mandrel, permanently closing the communication ports. FEATURES/BENEFITS • Temporary pressure communication from the running string to the hanger ID to hydraulically set liner hanger • Simple upstroke to close communication port and unlock RS™ packoff • Full bore ID at all times • Simple integration with existing liner hanger and ECP® systems PRESSURE PORT ISOLATION TOOL Product Family No. H27608 The Pressure Port Isolation Tool (PPIT), is used to provide a pressure communication path for setting a hydraulic-set liner hanger when using a Hydraulic Release Setting Tool and an inner string. The tool is placed between two PBR Packoffs (Product Family No. H27603), or two Cup Seal Units (Product Family No. H27604), with the open port adjacent to the setting port of the hanger. Pressure applied to the running string first activates the liner hanger, and then the HR™ (Product Family No. H26666), or HRD™ (Product Family No. H26680), setting tool is released with additional pressure. Pressure Port Isolation Tool Product Family No. H27608 When the running string is picked up to confirm setting tool release, the collet of the PPIT snaps into the HR™ profile and shifts an isolation sleeve across the ports. With the ports closed, the running string is restored to full pressure integrity even when the packoffs are raised above the liner. Circulation through the inner string or inflation of ECPs may be performed with the running string at any depth above the liner. FEATURES/BENEFITS Hanger Port Isolation Tool Product Family No. H30160 88 • Bonded seals permit repeated operation of the tool without damage • Full ID through PPIT at all times • Allows hydraulic hangers to be set and then closes communication path after setting tool release to allow use of ECP® inflation tools or displacement through inner string • Simple, reliable means of closing pressure port Baker Oil Tools EXTERNAL CASING PACKERS REVERSE PLUG CATCHER FLAPPER VALVE TYPE Product Family No. H30130 The Reverse Plug Catcher Flapper Valve Type (RPC) is designed for use with the HMR™ HIT assembly. It is positioned directly below the HMR™. The RPC acts as a locating device for the plug pumped in front of any inflation cement. Applied pressure allows the flapper valve to close so that all pressure applied to inflate ECPs is isolated from the plug. It also prevents annular pressure from acting on any inflation slurry. Additional tubing pressure opens the reversing path so that any excess inflation slurry can be reversed from the tubing after inflating all ECPs.
