Primary Diagnosis COMPLETE PATHOPHYSIOLOGY: (3-5 sentences) (Enter primary Diagnosis Here based on Lesson Plan Topic) Hemorrhagic stroke A type of stroke that is caused by a ruptured blood vessel which in turn causes bleeding in the brain. The part of the body in which the artery ruptured is damaged and can’t work properly. Caused by a weakened vessel that ruptures and bleeds into the surrounding brain, the blood accumulates and compresses the surrounding brain tissue. Two main types: Intracranial hemorrhages: bleeding occurs inside the brain Subarachnoid hemorrhage: bleeding occurs between the brain and membranes Causes (3 minimum) Uncontrolled High BP Trauma-head injuries Blood thinners Liver disease Drug abuse Sickle cell anemia Blood vessel abnormalities Signs & Symptoms (6 minimum) Unilateral weakness Decreased LOC EKG abnormalities Headache Light sensitivity Difficultly with speech Fainting Difficulty walking Miranda Besecker Rebecca St Hilaire Kashawna Folks Unilateral numbness Sudden confusion Changes in vision Trouble seeing in one or both eyes N/V Stiffness in the head or neck Fluctuation in HR and RR Abnormal taste in mouth Treatments: (3 minimum) Treatment is determined by whether stroke occurred within the brain (intracerebral) or on the surface (subarachnoid). For intracerebral blood pressure would be managed to decrease risk of more bleeding, if pt on blood thinners reversal drugs will be given to restore clotting factors. For subarachnoid tx depends on cause of the bleeding and how much damage was done to the brain. Pt will remain in neuroscience intensive care unit for monitoring for bleeding, vasospasm, and other potential complications. Pain meds given to alleviate headache; anticonvulsants given to prevent/treat seizures. If subarachnoid stroke is from ruptured aneurysm, surgery may be performed to stop bleeding Potential complications: (3 minimum) Aphasia Paralysis Seizures
