Frankenstein Do you dislike living in an atmosphere of suspense, murder and terror? If so, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley is a book you’ll want to avoid reading. This book takes you on a journey that’ll make you hold your breath, but intrigue you to see what happens next. Frankenstein is a story of murder, revenge and the supernatural. It tells the story of a scientist Victor Frankenstein who’s gifted with pure wide scientific knowledge that he uses it to give life to a being of his own creation. However, this being isn’t the perfect creature he imagined it to be, but rather a hideous ugly creature that is later rejected by both Victor, his own creator, and the society. For that, this creature seeks revenge upon people and Victor through merciless killings, resulting in Victor losing his beloved ones one by one. Frankenstein’s selfish and greedy misuse of his knowledge ended up being the reason for him losing his family and friends, and eventually his own death. The thing that I most enjoyed about this book is that aside from it being a warning to not mess with the natural order like victor tried to challenge God, it held a strong moral message about not to let greed control our actions, and how dangerously impactful it can be to not consider one’s negative actions. Also, this book reflects how loneliness and rejection from society can be so effective that they’d drive a person to become bad, just as happened with the monster, who’s good character was rather poisoned after his creator and society neglected him for his ugly appearance. When the monster decides to seek revenge he says: “For the first time the feelings of revenge and hatred filled my bosom, and I did not strive to control them, but allowing myself to be borne away by the stream, I bent my mind towards injury and death”. I personally recommend this book because it is such an exciting read. The dark themes of death, revenge and greed follow the reader throughout the story, so if you’re a gothic/thriller books reader, you’d certainly love this book.
