Meaning of Co-curricular Activities
Co-curricular activities (CCAs) earlier known as Extracurricular Activities (ECA) are the
components of non-academic curriculum helps to develop various facets of the personality
development of the child and students. For all-round development of the child, there is a need of
emotional, physical, spiritual and moral development that is complemented and supplemented by
Co-curricular Activities.
Co-curricular activities facilitate in the development of various domains of mind and personality
such as intellectual development, emotional development, social development, moral
development and aesthetic development. Creativity, Enthusiasm, and Energetic, Positive
thinking are some of the facets of personality development and the outcomes of Extracurricular
activities.
Definition of Co-curricular Activities
Co-curricular Activities are defined as the activities that enable to supplement and complement
the curricular or main syllabi activities. These are the very important part and parcel of
educational institutions to develop the students’ personality as well as to strengthen the
classroom learning.
These activities are organized after the school hours, so known as extra-curricular activities. Cocurricular Activities have wide horizon to cater to the cultural, social, aesthetic development of
the child.
Role of Co-curricular activities in student’s life
Co-curricular activities are the true and practical experiences received by students. To a greater
extent, the theoretical knowledge gets strengthened when a relevant co-curricular activity is
organized related to the content taught in the classroom. Intellectual aspects of personality are
solely accomplished by Classroom, while aesthetic development, character building, spiritual
growth, physical growth, moral values, creativity, etc. are supported by co-curricular activities.
Frankness and clarity in language and personality is supported by these activities. It helps to
develop co-ordination, adjustment, speech fluency, extempore expressions, etc. among student
both at the school as well as college levels.
Importance and Benefits of Co-curricular Activities
1. Co-curricular activities stimulate playing, acting, singing, recitation, speaking and narrating in
students.
2. Activities like participation in game debates, music, drama, etc., help in achieving overall
functioning of education.
3. It enables the students to express themselves freely through debates.
4. Games and Sports help to be fit and energetic to the child.
5. Helps to develop the spirit of healthy competition.

These activities guide students how to organize and present an activity, how to develop skills,
how to co-operate and co-ordinate in different situations-all these helps in leadership qualities.
7. It provides the avenues of socialization, self-identification and self-assessment when the child
come in contact with organizers, fellow participants, teachers, people outside the school during
cultural activity.
8. Inculcate the values to respects other’s view and feeling.
9. It makes you perfect in decision making.
10. It develops a sense of belongingness.
11. CCA provide motivation for learning.
12. CCA develop the values like physical, psychological, Ethical, academic, civic, social, aesthetic,
cultural recreational and disciplinary values
Role of a Teacher in Organizing curricular Activities
1. The teacher must be a good planner so that the different activities could be carried
out systematically throughout the year.
2. It should be the duty of the teacher to give more and more opportunity to the child while
performing co-curricular activities.
3. The Teacher should act as Innovator by introducing some innovative programs.
4. The teacher must be a good organizer so that the students experienced maximum of it.
5. He should too act like as director, recorder, evaluator,
manager, decision maker, advisor,
motivator, communicator, coordinator, so that the student and child could gained maximum of
finer aspects of Co-curricular activities.
ACTIVITY 1
Title: Just a Minute
Class: VI-A
Date: 11 JAN 2019
Period: 2
Duration: 15 minutes
1. Aim/Goal
The aim of the game was to observe the intellect and abstract thinking of the students where
students were given an abstract topic and were told to speak on it for a minute.. This will help the
students to think out of the box and we will be able to know their abstract thinking.
2. Way of organization:
The activity Just A Minute was organized in VI-A on11 Jan 2019 where students showed interest
in speaking on the given topic.
The activity was organized by 3 pupil teachers in a class of 30 students where they were divided
into 2 teams where some students participated enthusiastically while some student hesitated in
speaking their minds out.
Every correct answer was given 10 marks while no marks were deducted for wrong answers. In
case the team could not speak on given topic, the topic was passed on next team.
Discipline was taken care of while playing the game. One pupil teacher asked questions, marks
were noted down by the second while discipline was taken care by the third.

3. Experience:
Organizing an activity is always a difficult task. Activity has to be organized in a so that
students enjoy and increase their knowledge.
Organizing such activities for students was a great experience. Looking students enjoying the
quiz and participating whole heartedly made our team work at best. They also, encouraged us
to think and make the activity more and more interesting, come up with new ideas.
4. Suggestions:
I would like to give following suggestions:
Such activities make the students active and these activities should also be made conducted by
the teachers in order to motivate children towards their passion. Such activities always make the
students attentive and active. And each and every student participates in such activities, they feel
motivated & more polished towards their goal..
This should be considered as an extra activity to check level of creativeness.
ACTIVITY 2
TITTLE- Debate
PERIOD-
CLASS- 8th
DURATION- 20 min
DATE- 15-1-19
AIM/GOALThe aim of the game was to observe the intellect and abstract thinking of the students where
students were given a topic and were told to speak for or against a topic. This will help the
students to think.
WAY OF ORGANINGFirst we divided into two teams. Then one member from both the teams called and student of
team 1 speak for the topic and the other speaks against the topic. The student who spoke the best
would get a point. Some students were excited to have a debate and few were feeling shy to
speak in front of class. This activity went on nicely. Most of the class participated and enjoyed.
The topics that were given to the students were as – Social Media a boon or a bane….And
electronic gadgets – a boon or a bane.
SUGGESTIONS
Such activities make the students active and these activities should also be made conducted by
the teachers in order to motivate children to learn and gain knowledge. Each and every should
participate in the activity.
ACTIVITY 3
TITTLE- ROLE PLAY

AIM/ GOAL
To inherit out the hidden talent out of the students.

Enhancing their confidence and uplifting their talent.

Making education and knowledge fun for students.
ORGANISINGWe got the opportunity to organize activities in the real classroom. We decided to engage the
class to some interesting and knowledgeable activity. So, we decided to engage students to enact
a person whom you like. It could be any real person like father, mother or any fictional character
from movies. The students were very excited to act their favourite character.
SUGGESTION
An activity to be made according the students interest.

It should include both fun and knowledge.
ACTIVITY 4
TITTLE- QUIZ
PERIOD-
CLASS- 6th
DURATION- 25 min
DATE- 17-1-19
AIM/GOALThe aim of conducting a quiz is to check the students learning. Quiz develops the thinking
abilities in child.
WAY OF ORGANIZINGWe were given class 6th for conducting CCA activity. On the last working day of week, the
students were having a unit test of English subject. So we decided to conduct a quiz based on the
chapters that were coming in the test. The whole class participated in this activity. The students
were answering correctly.
The class was deviled into 2 rows. Each team was asked a question. The team has to answer as
the questions that are asked. Marks were also given.
SUGGESTIONSStudents should speak in English while giving answer. The students should be carefully listening
to the other peers. The students should Maintain discipline in classroom.
ACTIVITY 5
TITTLE- ATLAS
PERIOD-
CLASS- 6th
DURATION- 25 min
DATE- 21-1-19
AIM/ GOAL –
The aim of this activity is to develop the thinking ability of the students. The student will get
more aware about the places in the world.
WAY OF ORGANISING
The class was divided into 2 groups. Each team needs to tell a word starting from the last letter
of the word. It was a fun activity. The students were actively participating in this activity. They
were able to know about the name of new places through a play-way method. Descipline was
also taken care off simultaneously.
SUGGESTIONThe students should maintain discipline in the class. Each and every student should get involved
in the activity.
CONCLUSION
For the first time I was given classroom for conducting CCA activities. It was a great experience.
I had conducted 5 CCA activities. It was fun while conducting these activities. I have learned a
lot of new things. It is one of the best way to take children towards enhancing skills like
confidence, working in team work, enhancing general knowledge of the students, making them a
good listener. Activity has to be organised in a so that students enjoy and increase their
knowledge.
